Super dirty rooms

Jan 9th, 2020

Rooms were dirty, water heater not working so we had to take cold showers with cold weather. TV in the room never worked. The bar shown on the site is closed so there is no entertainment. Breakfast was good. Our room was not serviced properly. Hotel is located very closed to Bush Gardens so that was a plus and they offer shuttle service to the attractions near by. Overall was very disappointing. Would not stay here again. This is a $50/night hotel not the price they charge. In the end with all our complaints, the manager provided us 50% off our total charge, but that did not take away all of the problems for the 4 days we were there. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

No hot water, no heat, no bueno

Jan 1st, 2020

We were very excited to stay at Baymont by Wyndham Tampa for New Year’s Eve since it is so close to Busch Gardens and there is a free shuttle. The front desk staff were very nice. The grounds are well-kept and there is a sense that this place really was nice back in the day, but time and competition have proven a challenge to maintaining the quality it was built with. My first clue was the planter that used to be a hot tub near the pool. There is also a full bar area that now says “Closed” near the lobby. The pool tables opposite the pool area have seen better days as well and only one looked barely usable. There are three levels, so there are elevators, which is one of the first things I look for at a property, after experiencing the lack thereof at our previous lodging, Quality Inn Sarasota North/Airport (see my separate review). I would have liked to give Baymont by Wyndham Tampa more stars in my review, but our experience had a few glitches. Firstly, our second floor room had no heat, and it was cool enough in December in Florida to put the heat on. (In other words, below 60° F.) We tinkered with the thermostat for quite a while but never got the heat to turn on. We called the front desk which sent a guy from maintenance and he concurred that our room was unbearably chilly. Less than an hour later we were moved to a cozily warm room just down the walkway, directly above the fitness center off the lobby. The new room was also a king suite, plus it had a small table and chairs on a screened balcony. All was well and we watched the ball drop at midnight over Times Square on TV while hearing fireworks outside. However, the next morning when we went to shower up and get moved out, we found that the faucet handle in the tub was broken. No water, no shower, no bath. Also no hot water in the bathroom sink or the bar sink in the front room. That’s pretty major. But by this time it was approaching 11:00 check-out time, so we just let it lie, although we notified the front desk so that they could have it fixed. Overall, I would weakly recommend Baymont by Wyndham Tampa since for the price and location it is very convenient for getting to Busch Gardens and other attractions nearby like MOSI (see my separate reviews). We got Chinese food from Great Taste Chinese Restaurant delivered by DoorDash and it was fairly quick. The free breakfast buffet had waffles, biscuits and gravy, pastries, and cold cereal. The free shuttle saved us money getting to Busch Gardens, and the suite is large and comfortable. As long as the mechanical items work, it could be a nice stay. Hope this is helpful to you.
