Lower your Expectations

Understand Covid is causing disruptions across the travel industry but Beaches nor Sandals communicated on the severity of the impact to our vacation. The hotel is operating at around 25% capacity so we were surprise at the poor experience we had. Restaurants were open on a rotating schedule. Good luck finding any top shelf liquor within the resort (if you are lucky you may score a Miller Lite). The most noticeable impact was the level of service (~3hrs to check in, 15 min to find ketchup every single time, uncooked chicken, no beachside drink services, restaurants not opening on time). Kids club activities were also impacted so our son didn't have the best time. We left extremely disappointed and certain of one thing...we are not coming back! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Butler Service in Key West is Phenomenal
Feb 28th, 2021
We traveled to Beaches with 5 adults and 3 kids. One of the adults was a babysitter for the young kids (6, 4 and 10 months). The resort itself was extremely clean and immaculate - the food was amazing. Soy was a highlight as the Japanese restaurant on property and the Mac n cheese food truck was Ah-maxing for the kids (and adults). The water slides were fun! — and it must be noted the COVID precautions were very well done - even a little much at times, but good to be safe! The highlight was Dennis and Jeffrey, our butlers, though. Dennis and Jeffrey were not only able to get us what we needed and wanted, they made so many extra efforts that we didnt ask for that were so helpful! They’d walk the kids back to the room with the sitter, bring popcorn for a movie night to the room (without asking), find us on the resort and off snacks and make all reservations for us. They were sweet, funny, kind and always on time! They got to know us and really took note of our habits, like that we needed coffee by 6:30am with the kids :) We will be going back to Beaches for certain, and requesting them! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Our Recent Beaches Trip
Feb 27th, 2021
Just got back from a beaches Turks and Caicos trip. We loved it so much we booked another trip while on site. This time we’ll be checking out their resort in Jamaica. So let’s get it into the why.....The staff, the staff and did I say the staff? They are amazing. They are all welcoming and helpful. On day 1 we were trying to find a restaurant. We asked a passing staff member thinking they will give us directions. Instead, she walked us most of the way to the restaurant and didn’t leave us until the restaurant was in our sight at which point she pointed it out and went back the way we came. I was amazed that she took the time to go out of her way to ensure we found our destination. This happened to us more than once. Everywhere we go the staff members acknowledged our presence with a smile and a hello, even if they are just passing us by. Everyone asks us if we are enjoying our vacation and if there is anything else they could do for us. I wanna shout out Netoya, Geico, Bishop, Andrew, Tedane for their wonderful service, friendly conversation and recommendations for things to do on the resort. The facilities and Activities: The kids loved the pirate island water park. At the time of our visit the resort was not at capacity so minimal, if any wait for the water slides. The surf simulator was a big hit. The kids also lived at the swim up bars. My husband and daughter did the snorkeling trip. It’s restricted to 6 people per trip due to COVID. You have to sign up a day in advance. We brought our own snorkel masks because we are germaphobes. They’ll provide you with snorkel masks, life jackets and fins for the trip. The glass bottom boat is also restricted to 6 people per trip. We did the ocean tricycles. Keep in mind the farther out you go, the more pedaling you will have to do to come back to the beach. Let’s just say my husband learned his lesson. We tried sailing but didn’t get a chance to try the paddle board or kayaking. For all water activities life jackets are provided. Once you return, the life jackets are dipped into a bucket of soapy sanitizing water to clean them. COVID protocol - I felt extremely safe at Beaches. When they say they have enhanced cleaning, they mean it. My husband and I was shocked when after getting up and leaving a beach tent, someone promptly went over and sprayed the chairs and tent with sanitizing spray. We witnessed staff cleaning the life size board games around the property like chess, connect 4. We also saw them cleaning the table games in the billiards room. To enter the Xbox lounge your temperature is checked and your hands must be washed. The game is then cleaned after you leave. You are given hand sanitizer by the hostess prior to entering every restaurant. Masks are worn to enter the restaurants, the lobby, shops and any other indoor area. Once seated at a restaurant masks can be removed. All the staff wear masks all the time. Guests can be maskless outdoors if they so desire. Room: we were in the Caribbean deluxe double. To be honest we barely saw the room. It was clean and had a good view of the ocean but not of the beach as there were other lower buildings in front of us. (I posted 3 pictures of the view, from within the room, 2 from the balcony, one more zoomed than the other). The room was centrally located. We were able to get to pirate island, Italian village, French village and the beach quite easily. Key west village was a trek from our room but we only went over there once to eat at Neptune’s. Food: The food was okay. Some restaurants were better than others. The buffet is only open for breakfast. We went once and no one from my family wanted to go back. We ate at Schooners for the remaining days. The breakfast there was good. The dinner not so much. We ate there for dinner the first night and the steak was hard and tasteless. The steak at Barefoot and Arizona’s was much better. Due to COVID and the reduced capacity not all the restaurants are opened at once. You will receive a weekly schedule which details which restaurants are open for each day of the week. We planned our dining reservations based what would be open when. The dining staff goes out of their way to please you. I’m so mad I didn’t get the name of the hostess in Bobby D’s. We asked if the restaurant had hot tea and was told no but she offered to go elsewhere to get us tea. We didn’t want her to go out of her way but she insisted and got us tea. This occurred on 2/18 around 1:30pm-2pm, in case someone reads this and is able to identify her from the schedule. She was very attentive every time we went there. We would give it 4.5 but don’t have that option. It lost 1/2 a star because the food wasn’t consistent in quality and taste at each restaurant. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Beautiful, but not worth the money.
Feb 25th, 2021
A lot of dining and entertainment options were closed due to Covid, I can understand that, but they should be more upfront on the website. What I can not understand is the service we got when paying 10K. •Uncooked chicken at dinner. •Our room toilet broken twice. •2 hour check-in experience. •No top shelf liquor to be found. If you’re lucky, you may find a cold Miller Lite. Maybe. •Where is Elmo? Not here. •Lunch grill is ‘open at 12’ and that means they start setting up at 12, you can eat at 1. •We noted being here to celebrate our sons Birthday and got nothing, not even a happy birthday. Beautiful beach but the experience does not match the price. I’ll choose to spend our elsewhere win the future. Thanks, Beaches! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Our Third Great Trip!
Feb 25th, 2021
While the resort was much quieter than usual due to COVID, this was our third time to Beaches T&C in six years and it did not disappoint. Once again we had a great time with our two kids (8 and 10). The resort itself, the beach, the water park, pools, and all the buildings are just amazingly clean and beautiful. It is like paradise. COVID precautions were mostly followed by Guests and staff. If we had gotten sick, we would have thought it was from the airports, we felt very safe at Beaches. Reading other people's reviews who didn't have as good of a time as our family and others, I think the key to it is that you have to have the attitude that you're not in an American city where it's hustle and bustle. Everything here at the resort and probably anywhere in the Caribbean is more laid-back, slower, methodical. If you don't go with the flow, you will get stressed and frustrated. That would be our best advice for having a good time at Beaches T&C. The staff were all friendly and caring and helpful. And we were pleasantly suprised than even though the resort was extra quiet due to the Pandemic, that Beaches still had the proper amount of staff on in all areas so that we had the same experience as previous times.
