Wonderful hotel in the center of the old city, with lots to do nearby

Dec 4th, 2019

Spent a long weekend in Charleston at this hotel, helping to celebrate a birthday. The hotel has knowledgeable and friendly staff that helped us with several issues and questions. The room was very well appointed, with a comfortable bed and huge walk in shower. The restaurants and bar in the hotel were first rate. It is the most expensive of the inner city hotels, but you get an experience that is worth the cost. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A classic regal experience.

This is a classic "grande-dame" hotel of a southern city. Beautiful lobby, impressive stairway, big classic rooms, wooden homey bar (Thoroughbred) and great location. Yiu cannot beat the location and service of this hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Had high hopes.

Dec 2nd, 2019

We recently stayed at the property for 4 nights and left underwhelmed and very much surprised that this property carries the Belmond name. It certainly does not live up to the standard of other Belmond's we have stayed at. Let's start with the positives. Location, location, location! You truly cannot imagine being in a more centrally located area. The staff for the most part was friendly and both the concierge and front desk staff, were incredibly accommodating, when there were numerous errors on our check out bill and providing recommendations. Now on to the not so pleasant aspects of our trip. For starters, as an American Express Centurion holder, it is rare that we do not get a room upgrade upon availability. Our original room was dated, with cracked molding and walls, virtually no water pressure, uncomfortable beds, a room with no view and incredibly small square feet. After a restless sleep in an uncomfortable bed, Alfie the front desk agent apologized for not upgrading the room since rooms were available and changed our room to a junior suite -- which was much more spacious, but all of the other aforementioned qualities remained. Housekeeping -- our rooms barely felt serviced after housekeeping. Wrinkled sheets and linens and only offering turn down service upon request are not on par with Belmond's and the $399 per night price tag. Slow service and undestaffed F&B outlets always left us looking for someone to refill coffee, ask for flatware, napkins, etc. also unacceptable when you're paying $30 for a bagel and smoked salmon. The hostess Lily, really was the most unpleasant of them all and in need of a serious attitude adjustment. All in all, I would give the property a C+. We will be sure to return to Charleston, unclear if the Belmond would be our choice. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Very nice stay in Charleston

Dec 1st, 2019

I did a lot of research of hotels in Charleston before booking this place. I'm glad that my thorough research helped me to choose the right one. From staff to clean facility... this place is the best! The location of the hotel was GREAT and the fact that we could use self parking right next to the hotel with in and out privilege for just $17/day, it's awesome! The linens were clean and comfortable and the room was just nicely renovated! LOVED this HOTEL!!!! We will definitely return to this hotel when coming back to Charleston! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Best Place in Charleston

The best, just amazing, a sad moment when you have to leave. We had the suite with access to the club lounge and it was unforgettable. Dine at the Charleston Grill deserve a visit! The Spa is great, from early morning to late evening! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
