Property features 26 tennis courts, a golf course, a spa and three pools
Some areas of the property are looking a bit worn
Recent guests adore Boar's Head's charming setting and hospitable staff. But when it comes to the property itself, they offer a few words of advice. One, if you want the best room available, inquire about the handful of lake view rooms in the Main Inn. (There are six buildings with rooms, the largest of which is the Ednam Hall structure.) Two, to secure one of those lake view rooms, you should book several weeks or months in advance. These desirable guest rooms feature luxurious amenities, such as antique furnishings, coffee makers, high-end bath products and plush bedding. And three, expect to find some areas of the property grounds that could use a facelift. What did impress guests, though, is Boar's Head's plethora of on-site activities, including a fitness club and three swimming pools. After swimming a few laps, indulge in a delicious meal at the recently remodeled Mill Room, or for more casual fare, head to Racquets Restaurant. Two additional seasonal eateries, the Deep End Bar & Grill and the golf course's Birdwood Grill, are also available for food. You'll find Boar's Head located about 5 miles from the historic Downtown Pedestrian Mall in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Critic Reviews

This local landmark resembles an English country inn, with flower gardens, ponds, and a gristmill from 1834. Rooms have king-size four-poster beds and Italian linens and many are decked out with balconies or fireplaces.

Travel + Leisure

Built on the bucolic site of an old tavern and inn, from the timbers of a gristmill, the Boar's Head shares Piedmont Virginia's affection for all things historic. A southern colonial theme prevails – reproduction antiques, brick walkways, hunting scenes hung over mantels – but a 2011 overhaul has added a much-needed glow.
