Beautiful hotel

Dec 1st, 2019

The valet staff is wonderful. The check in staff not as warm. We paid for a water view corner room. We got a street view with no balcony and no, we could not see the water. We came down for the boat parade and picked this hotel because it was water front. Needless to say since we had no water view and no balcony we had to hang out with the rest of the public on the walk. We could not even watch from the rooftop bar because it was reserved!!! ( tell me again why we picked this hotel??) Three times during our stay our room keys would not work and three times we had to go back to the front desk and have them reset. Once in the elevator I was searching around for my key in my purse (because you must use a key to get to your floor). A staff member was in the elevator in a suit holding a clipboard. Do you think he offered to use his key while I searched the depths of my purse? No!! Never offered. I also wanted a secure place on the grounds to smoke. ( I know bad habit but after a cocktail...it is so good) I am a very considerate smoker and do not even get near people nor make a mess when I smoke. I was firmly told by the security when I looked around the lobby for a secure outside location that the only place I could go out was to the street. Now this is Savannah...what do people do when they want a fine cigar with their brandy? I mean the rooftop bar is open air so. So in case you do not know the streets are not the safest due to the homeless walking around and several were in front of the hotel where I was sent. So we paid a hefty hefty price for a room here for the weekend and basically I was told to hang out with the homeless if I wanted to smoke. Nice... I felt real secure (sarcasm). The wait staff in the restaurant is fantastic and my husband loved the bartenders at the rooftop bar. The hotel is absolutely beautiful which makes up for a lot of the staff problems. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are quiet. The best of the staff though have to be the valet/doormen. They are very nice and considerate. Be very very careful of your bill. We had a 50.00 unexplained charge placed on our bill. When we brought it to the check in attendant's attention she was curious about it also. She had no idea why that service fee had been added to our bill and immediately took it off. Pretty shady!!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Spend your money elsewhere

Nov 30th, 2019

We arrived on a cold, rainy day, and the fellow that valet parked our car was wonderful, cheerful, and welcoming. Unfortunately, he was the only one at this hotel that was this way. I had always wanted to stay in an "Autograph" hotel, as they sounded really cool. This one was riverfront, yes - but although the hotel was not full, we were not allowed to check in until 4 pm. The lady at check in suggested a nearby hotel, but gave us directions to get to it the long way through the rain, when there was easy access from the Riverwalk. We checked into a room that was smaller than most Hampton Inns, and the decor was not that special, unless you consider a chandelier covered in shells a beautiful thing. The art throughout was modern, graphic, and not appropriate in this old lady's mind for children. The bed was okay, but there was no chair to sit in, so I needlepointed while sitting in bed. We did the hotel restaurant for a breakfast that took forever to come, delivered by a waitress that clearly thought delivering food was beneath her. Altogether not a good experience. Old World Charm, Wonderful Service, Superb Location

Nov 25th, 2019

While visiting Savannah for work/pleasure we stayed at this Marriott Bonvoy property. The first thing we noticed was the lovely historic nature of the hotel as we pulled up, but this was nothing compared to the old world charm that exuded from the interior and our room. The hotel itself is waterfront with amazing views - especially from the roof top patio bar and restaurant. You are also centrally located in Savannah's historic district where you can walk anywhere. Loved the entire stay! And loved Savannah!!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Threadbare carpets, thin walls

Nov 16th, 2019

We stayed 3 nights on business. One other in our group was on the 8th floor the day before and warned us that he was up all night with bar noise and chairs dragging on the tile floors over his head so we asked to be on a lower floor. Our room was clean and the bed was comfy but the carpets are so dirty and worn you could see thru to the backing. I am shocked this is an autograph collection. We did love the view. Check in is strange in a living room set up but the doormen are very good and the only friendly service we encountered. The rooftop bar has horrible service. We waited for 15 minutes for a drink at a dirty table and finally went to the bar to get 6 drinks for our table. Many trip advisor reviews state the same experience. This place needs an intervention by Marriott. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Solo trip

Nov 13th, 2019

I had a great experience at this hotel. Personal stay for overnight trip. The decor is unique and different but looked beautiful. My favorite feature was waking up to the sunrise over the Savannah River. Outside bedroom balcony was a treat to enjoy my coffee and watch the container vessel ships pass by. I would stay again.
