I am going to relate the facts and let the reader make his or her own decision. 1) They gave me room 111 on first floor. Wifi barely worked - not enough to make internet based phone calls required for a legal case I was involved in. Alfredo, who did his best, could not get the room's wifi router working and the hotel's wifi was not strong enough to be of help. The internet guy was supposed to come at 12 noon. As of 1 he still did not arrive. 2) Hot water did not work in sink. 3) No instructions in this room that you have to push the knob to get the shower to work, In 207 which they gave me later the knob says push. 4) Breakfast was not available that same morning because they had fumigated the night before. No sign or advanced notice. 5) We were there on business and had a mtg at 3PM across the way at the Hilton. At 2PM I called and asked them to prepare lunch and call us when it was ready. At 2:30 they called and said to come down. They served tortilla soup and when were done said they would bring out the molcajete. 10 minutes later at 2:55 they bring the food. We missed the mtg and the boss was not pleased. At this point I was about to go postal. How much more can they screw up? Wait and see. 6) The next morning I raised these issues to Leonel (I think that was his name) the manager on duty. He apologized and said he would look into a way to compensate me for the inconvenience. Boy did he ever. That same morning Addidas had an event with a loud speaker starting at 8:30 AM. One guest yelled for them to shut up multiple times. I felt sorry for him trying to get rest at that hour. 7) My second to last day I asked the same manager if they could wash some of my clothes. He said yes. They charged me 500 pesos or roughly $27 for 4 boxer shorts, 5 t shirts 1 pair of jeans and one dress shirt. This must be what the manager must have meant by compensation. They did upgrade me to room 207 that has a bathroom door that slams loud and hard but otherwise nice. Shower was very unique and pleasant. But seriously I will never stay here again. Colonial Mexico in Centre of Town

This hotel is in a great location just a 15 minutes walk to the Zocalo. It's right on the main open park in downtown and the metro is literally at the door. The hotel itself is in a wonderful historic building and maintains its colonial charm. The beds and rooms are very comfortable. The staff were very helpful through out our stay. There is a roof top terrace which plays music at the weekends. It didn't bother us at all at the walls in this hotel are very thick. Highly recommend it. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Small things need to be fixed

This could easily have been a 5-star review, there's more to like than not. Nice and helpful staff, historic building, and comfortable appointments... I didn't use the restaurant or rooftop bar. Here are the issues that kept it from being 5-star: >Internet - did not work in my room, and even outside right next to the office it fluctuates. I have some business that I must do each day and when I mentioned the internet problems I got a shrug and was told to use the chairs outside the office. >TV - same situation. Shuts down and has to re-initialize often. >Humidity in room - seriously, the bathroom needs an exhaust fan to remove the moisture from showering. The room seems humid, and I had to leave the air conditioner on the entire stay of 5 days. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not sure how this rates as even 3 stars! We chose this hotel because of its location and "boutique" status. Turns out neither were what we would have expected! The air quality in the room was the poorest I have ever personally experienced which necessitated having to call a maintenance person to open the window. Which was worse? the noise pollution from the busy street(car horns honking all night long) or the horrible stale smell in the room? Hard to say. Also as previous reviewers have stated, disco thumping late into the night. The check in staff were friendly and helpful as best they could be. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable with nice linens but the bathroom was weird, separated from the bedroom with a curtain. It had a tub/shower combo that was 2 stories high??? with a tub floor that moved under your feet and which was tricky to exit. Also, the W/C which adjoined the bath was separated by a glass door??? The hotel had a central courtyard that all the rooms opened on to but it was dark as were the stairwells and only contributed to the gloomy atmosphere. Shudder. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Needs a lot of TLC - most of the staff are lovely and the hotel layout is lovely but the restaurant and rooms leave a lot to be desired. Food uninspiring. Decor and sanitation needs upgrading! Also it is NOT close to the historic centre as promoted - 20 mins on foot TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
