Extended Stay in Santa Barbara Feb 2020

Mar 4th, 2020

I stayed here with my husband for 5 nights at the end of Feb 2020. We stayed in a standard king room. This hotel definitely has more of a motel feel, but I also think it depends on the room you reserve. We chose to stay here because of the price so I kinda knew what I was paying for, but I read on other reviews that some of the other rooms are much larger. One thing I didn't like about my room was how dark it was. We had a few windows facing an apartment complex, but they were covered in thick glass so you felt pretty enclosed. Our other view was of the parking lot. I felt like the room was clean, but there was something odd with the AC/heat. We would freeze at night and had to turn the heat to 80 to feel some warm air coming through. Also, it's pretty noisy. I didn't sleep as well as I thought (bed was pretty comfy), and ended up getting sick the last day, which was probably due to freezing overnight with lack of sleep. I really enjoyed the daily wine and cheese selection, coffee , and DVD rental. We also utilized the pool one afternoon, which was nice. We like to walk so the distance to the beach and State Street didn't bother us. I would recommend to stay here 1-2 nights. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Santa Barbara Getaway

Mar 4th, 2020

Found this little hotel on a last minute getaway to Santa Barbara. Booked 1 night then extended another night after checking in. Mickey at the front desk is a great asset to the team. Rooms are clean, a tad expensive for off season but its Santa Barbara, everything is expensive. Wife and I loved the complimentary wine hour and our 2 year old loved the complimentary cookies! Good location

Feb 27th, 2020

Expensive for what it is but that presumaeably is Santa Barbara and we hit it at a weekend/valentines and Presidents day so bad luck for us. Stayed for 3 nights. Good looking property. It is essentially a motel but trying to do all manor of things to set itself apart and it succeeds very well. Welcome at reception was lovely and all the extra touches (mentioned by others) are there. I personally wouldnt go so far as to call the breakfast deluxe continental and I'm not sure what that would consist of but the quality of the food was very good, not sure about boiled eggs in plastic pouches though. Didnt like the plastic cutlery - very common we found in other places too, and paper cups for coffee and plastic for juice, paper in the rooms too. Free dvd rental a great idea and there are loads to chose from. Walking into town is easy or down to the beach. There is a 7 11 store very near for any bits you need and Brewstore was good for a meal and beer selection. Parking was free - a bonus - a bit tight but easy otherwise. Laundry on site $2 per wash and for drying each takes about 30 minutes. We didnt use the pool but looked clean and felt warm. Could hear the Amtrak but not after 22.00 or so and not as much road noise as expected considering location to road. Stair ways are carpeted which seemed a bit odd as outside and a bit worn. Room good enough and bed comfortable. Good TV. Liked the tile work oround the building TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location, clean and well managed.

Feb 21st, 2020

Stayed in room 22 for 5 nights. After reading all the reviews, I was pleasantly surprised and not sure where some of the negative reviews came from. A short walk to the beach, about a 20 min walk to State St, this place was perfectly located for my needs. I don't know if my room was one that was recently redone, but it was nice just the same. Bathroom looked like it was done over recently; big shower, tile, and great dressing area with vanity that was wonderful given I was staying with my daughter. Had breakfast there each morning. Yes, standard continental fare, but good. If you want eggs/bacon, pancakes/ waffles, go spend 20 per person on state street. They had a nice spread of yogurt parfait, pastries, oatmeal, fruit, juice, coffee, tea. Seemed fine to me. Lobby area is very cozy with fireplace and tables set up for breakfast as well as afternoon wine/cheese and later on for cookies (although I never got around to eat the cookies. Stoped for wine and cheese a couple of times. Red and white, plus a nice assortment of cheese to nibble on. There is also seating outside as well. Used the pool once. Yes, it's small, but come on people, the complex isn't that big and I never saw more then 1 person at the pool during my stay. The front desk personnal were very friendly and there to help. If I have to find any faults it would be that the water takes some time in the morning to get hot. That's it. Sorry, can't think of anything else to complain about. I've stayed many places around the world from the Waldorf in Rome to a LaQuinta in Tampa. I tell you this not to brag, but to let you know I know a good hotel when I stay in one. It's clean, has a great location and friendly service and little perks. I'd definately stay again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Very special personal touches!

Feb 2nd, 2020

Friends encouraged us to stay here after visiting for almost 30 years! Now I know why they keep coming back. The personal attention given to guests here sets this place apart from all other hotels. Some of the nice touches include: Coffee and tea are available in the lobby all day and night. The coffee quality is excellent. Apples are also available all day long. Continental breakfast: What a great assortment of full size beautiful pastries! Choose from scones, muffins, danishes, turnovers, lemon bread, banana bread, different varieties of croissants and more. The variety and daily freshness was exemplary. Add toast, bagels, fresh fruit, and hard boiled eggs and you get a continental breakfast PLUS. It's. All out for hours...about 6:30-10am. Wine and cheeses reception: self serve white and red wines are available nightly from 4:30-6:30pm. They also set out excellent cheeses, crackers, almonds, raisins, grapes and superb lemon bars. Post-reception cookies and milk. After the evening reception ends, they set out fresh cookies...soft oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, chocolate chip and choco-choco-chocolate chip. All are yummy. During winter months, quite a few retired snowbirds visit for extended stays of weeks to months duration. It's no wonder why some have visited for years and even decades. Everything about this place is great. Their one-bedroom units with full kitchens are perfect. The hotel is in walking distance to the beach, public tennis courts, downtown shops and much more. A nice neighborhood grocery store is just a half block away. There's no need for a car if you stay here. We thoroughly enjoyed this place. Staff were super friendly and accommodating. For repeat guests, they even provided a card for a complimentary wine tasting for two at a local winery (value of $15 pp). What a treat! We plan to return to this wonderful home away from home.
