Much better than expected

Feb 9th, 2020

This is not quite the nondescript, suburban, off-the-expressway hotel that I was expecting before I arrived. We came to Pedregal for a wedding -- not in the the hotel, but it seems to be the best hotel in the neighborhood. We were very pleasantly surprised. The overall rating is really based on price-performance. That said, I would not recommend the hotel unless your destination is Pedregal or nearby. Our room was nice, if dated. There were some stains on the desk, but they had clearly been there for a long time. The hotel renovated at some point, clearly with much focus on the bathroom. The toiletries are Molton Brown; and they provide toothpaste, a toothbrush, and mouthwash. The bed was comfortable, and the room quiet. The temperature control worked. Being one of the tallest buildings in that part of Mexico City, the hotel has very good views in all directions. The hotel advertises that the water is purified and safe for drinking. They also provide bottled water in the room at no cost. If you leave the hotel through the doors on the side behind the reception desk, you can easily walk into the hospital complex. When you pass through the garage, there is a gift shop with water and many other things at quite reasonable prices. The breakfast was quite good, although a bit confusing. The charge was not the amount on the menu -- it was more. BUT, breakfast was included in the room price. The confusion is that you sign a receipt for the higher amount, but you don't actually get charged for it. I might add that an equivalent breakfast in New York City (where I live) might cost the same as the room there. Service was good. We needed to have our clothes pressed for the wedding; once we made ourselves understood, they were able to press the clothes even though it was outside their normal hours. The neighborhood is quite interesting. Right across from the hotel is the Artz luxury mall -- a beautiful new mall with high end stores and restaurants. Around the mall is an upscale neighborhood. On the same side of the expressway as the hotel is a more middle class area. We felt comfortable walking around during the day. One of the quirks is that the rooms start on floor "20" according to the elevator. I calculate that this is about the 3rd floor of the hotel. Overall, the hotel made a much better experience than I was expecting. It offers a good example of Mexican hospitality. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Nothing outstanding yet nothing bad

Dec 15th, 2019

This hotel is situated close to the Six Flags Mexico. If you plan to visit the Central to enjoy magnificent and historical buildings of Mexico. You should consider to stay somewhere else. I have no issues with receptionists. I have talked to many of them as my room was in need of maintenance. Receptionists I communicated in the morning and early in the morning, they were all kind. However, CONCIERGE WAS NOT SO CONCIERGE. There was one young dude at Concierge, he sounded so unsure to my questions (where to buy souvenirs etc) Hall servers at the restaurant, they were very nice. But as I'm not a spanish speaker, communicating was quite challenging. I have something to say about breakfast though. This hotel's breakfast all-you-can-eat buffet is a joke. They have really limited selections of food which leads in-house guests to order additional food. Not even scrambled eggs were provided for free of charge. The food that were available for free was bread, cereal, fruits, juices and some yogurts.... In addition, at night I heard unknown bursting sounds every night throughout my stay. I hope it was not a gun fight. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The lesser Camino Real

Jun 22nd, 2019

There are 4 Camino Real in Mexico City and I´ve been to all of them. The one in the airport is as dull as all airport hotels and the only reason to stay there is an early flight. The one in Santa Fe in very nice, modern, comfortable and with good restaurants. The one in Polanco is an architectural jewel, and full of top rated restaurants. But his one in Pedregal has nothing to do with the previous two. As a building it´s a plain prism. It has a very simple lobby, two average restaurants and is always crowded with groups, mostly medical conventions (the big Angeles Hospital is across the street) and when my family and I stayed, also sport teams. My husband and I chose a Jr suite because it was the only way to get a king size bed. It included a microwave oven, a sink and a counter with 3 stools. There was a nice granite desk, two chairs and a small TV, probably 32". The closet had 2 shelves and a safe box. In all the room there were only 3 drawers, since the bedside tables don´t have any. The room felt spacious, despite the purple carpet. The curtains were blackout. The bed had a firm, nice mattress and reading lamps. We left the room early in the morning and when we returned, at 6:00 pm the room hadn´t been cleaned up. When we complained, they argued the Do not disturb sign was hanging, but I remember removing it because I returned specifically to do so. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
