Old, falling apart and a lack of customer service like no other!

Feb 2nd, 2020

Carlsbad is a great get away and this property from the outside looks inviting being so close to the beach and village, but once you walk in its a totally different situation! They put us first into unit 101 and our view was a mound of dirt from construction which I post below. They then changed us to unit 205 where the screen door to the patio just falls off the track and onto you. The wood walkways are literally falling apart, uneven and in dire need of replacement. The view from our unit gave a partial view of the ocean, but it was obscured from the noise from the dozer pounding away below us. Forget about wanting to hear the ocean. The pool is closed and currently under construction and to get anywhere is a maze of signs pointing every which way. The units interiors are fairly new, but the bathrooms have no vents or windows. When we talked to the front desk we were told they are under construction and told that is just the way it is. We asked for a return of the resort fee as you could not use any of the amenities, yet again told tough beans as they provide parking. Really, this is how you treat customers? I just cant express the disappointment of this place and highly advise to go elsewhere, especially with so many others available in the area. Yes I get they are under construction, but try to be sensitive to the customers needs and place them via phasing out of the dust and noise. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

First California visit

Feb 1st, 2020

Carlsbad is terrific, getting here by driving from the east in winter is a challenge. The units are clean, too bad laundry is in the garage. Best activities department I’ve seen in a long time. Reminds me of why we purchased back in 1985. No sales pressure. Coaster train fantastic, not walkable if you have mobility issues but great parking lot 1 hour to San Diego, use old town stop, little walk up hill to the sightseeing Trolley booth hop on off until 5 pm . Unit elevator broke first day fantastic staff carrying all guests luggage. Water in garage on last day, but staff repair everything immediately. Housekeeping efficient and visit multiple times. Take Five star tour to LA they pick u up at the resort lobby round trip make sure have minimum group. Ask for Anna great tour guide. Beach access is located down multiple stairs. Handicapped access is quite a walk down the path. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Older property with a great location

Jan 28th, 2020

The complex consists of the hotel (which fronts Carlsbad Avenue) and 2 condo buildings (Oak and Elm). Parking is located under the building and out front of the hotel. During this visit, the pool has been completely dug out and the construction should be ongoing for another several months. We've stayed here several years ago and, when a timeshare exchange opening comes up, it is well worth it. The rooms are spacious and pretty well maintained. Once a week (4 days into a visit) there is a full tidy service consisting of a towel linen change. Two and six days into a visit, there will be a trash pickup and a towel exchange. The resort does charge a $22 a day resort fee which seems steep for what you get. The schedule does list some activities, like a wine social and a karaoke night in the Library Room. Courtesy newspapers (Wall Street Journal and USA Today) are stacked in the library near the coffee service. The train is located maybe 3-4 blocks away and provides for easy transport to San Diego or in the opposite Oceanside direction. We like to walk to Oceanside which is about 6 miles round trip between the Inn and the O'side Pier. We also walked down the beach, along the sea wall,(also 6 miles round trip) to the RV park in the Encinitas direction. Sleep quality was fairly good; people can be pretty loud as they pass by these rooms with paper-thin walls. There are 2 barbeques in each of the condo complexes and do make sure both sides are lit otherwise the temperature will not raise above 100 degrees (we needed a technician to stick a long match in the grill to light the second burners). Laundry is available for a fee (it is in the basement garage); it seems to us that, given the steep resort fee, maybe that service should be included like it is in so many other resorts/timeshares. Bathroom toiletries are restocked during the midweek housekeeping service. Also, the internet service was pretty decent. The kitchen is well supplied with a stove/oven, blender, dishwasher, microwave, 3/4 size frig, and cone-style coffee maker. Call the front desk if you need Teflon fry pans and/or a baking sheet. For groceries in the immediate area, the Smart and Final Express store has really good and fresh fruits, cooked rotisserie chickens, and all the stuff we needed to stock our condo for a week. It is down Carlsbad Village Drive and is pretty close to the I-5 freeway. The prices were very fair and the selection was overall excellent. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
