Resort offers a secluded, laid-back atmosphere
Daily resort fee of $45 applies
Sitting just a few miles southwest of Napa, California, Carneros Resort and Spa is often described by recent travelers as charming and quiet. Accommodations consist of cottages, suites and homes. Many previous visitors recommend reserving a cottage for an added sense of privacy. (Guests also suggest requesting a room that's not near the highway for a more peaceful night's sleep.) But no matter which type of lodging you choose, you'll find yourself with a flat-screen TV, a Nespresso coffee machine, heated bathroom floors and a private outdoor patio with a garden. When you crave a change of scenery, take some time to explore all 22 acres of the property – you'll find a vegetable garden, two pools with hot tubs, a general store, three restaurants and The Spa at Carneros. Other amenities – such as weekend fitness classes, use of loaner bicycles and on-site parking – are covered by the property's daily $45 resort fee. Members of the I Prefer program can offset costs by cashing in points here.

Critic Reviews

Freestanding board-and-batten cottages with rocking chairs on each porch are simultaneously rustic and chic at this luxurious property. Natural light floods the cottages, whose French doors lead to private gardens, some with fire pits and outdoor soaking tubs.

Travel + Leisure

Little would seem to separate cottages here from modest farm buildings in Iowa, except their pitch-perfect khaki color and what's on the inside: hardwood floors, leather club chairs, wood-burning fireplaces, plasma-screen TV's. Mayberry has met Miami in a John Steinbeck landscape, but somehow it all makes sense.

Condé Nast Traveler

Surrounded by 28 acres of grapevines and rolling farmland, this beautiful resort draws its look from the working countryside with barnlike buildings, open beams, and board-and-batten construction. Individual cottages with modern interiors are set up in mini neighborhoods and have fireplaces with polished concrete hearths, cherry floors, and French doors leading to landscaped gardens.

The luxury Carneros Resort and Spa is geared toward high-budget travelers -- it's pricey – but guests who can afford it will find a sort of homey elegance here. ... The entire resort feels like it's set on a farm, with cottages strewn about that house some of the guest rooms.
