Filthy room

Nov 22nd, 2019

My husband was facilitating a two day meeting on the property so we had planned to stay two nights. We had requested early check-in as the meeting started at 10am. At 2 I was finally told there was a “problem” with our room. After I suggested that we be assigned a different room, I got into a room at 3:30. On the low ceiling, just inside the door, was an air filter so filthy that it was dropping lint onto the floor. In the refrigerator, the tray was covered in black mold. There was dirt along the bottom third of the perimeter of the tub (which came off with the wipe of a damp washcloth). I found two spiders in the bed. When we turned in our keys after the meeting concluded (rather than staying the second night), my husband shared our experience with reception and said that we had photographs of these issues. Reception said that a manager would call the following day. No one called. It’s a beautiful property but I would never stay there again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I love my stay at Carneros Resort and spa! The rooms were beautiful and thoughtfully decorated. The grounds are peaceful and majestic! The restaurants on site were magnificent!! If I could offer them one suggestion it would be to ad room service. I will return! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Don’t waste your money

Quite possibly one of the worst luxury experiences I have had. Setting is wonderful but homes/casitas are dated and desperate for some preventative maintenance. Food and beverage is lackluster at best and service is woefully slow. At $1700/night, definitely not worth it. We will not return. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not what it used to be

Nov 5th, 2019

We came back to Carneros after about 5 years to celebrate an anniversary. Being just an hour from San Francisco, it’s an easy to get to peaceful retreat. It’s under new ownership (I believe) since we’ve been last. Upon entry it still looks the same - stunning country chic property with a cozy, homey vibe. The pool and it’s location - overlooking a field and views of the hillside- is the best part of the property. Our room was fine, but for $1000/night you expect things to be clean, work properly and up to date. Our water smelled like sewage/sulfur every time we showered or washed our hands. The landscaping in the backyard was pathetic. I took a bath in the tub outside and the pipes weren’t even connected to allow for proper drainage. Dirty ceilings with chipped paint in the washroom. Fountain was broken and a mess of electrical wires exposed outside. The bathroom spaces overall and yard area need a serious facelift. I was appalled by the condition of the plastic wine glasses by the pool. Should definitely be replaced. Pool service was pretty good and friendly, very sweet team of folks working this area. The food is incredible, at all 3 restaurants, still. Very, very good. Farm made for a romantic dinner in, but make sure to make a reservation on your own as the woman at check in forgot to make one when we requested it. You definitely can’t miss out on brunch at Boon Fly Cafe. Well oiled machine and delicious, filling food. Worth the wait. Spa has recently been renovated and it’s nice. I wish the outdoor “relaxation lounge” wasn’t overlooking a construction site (or maybe a well of sorts?). Would love to see more plants/greenery and spa music back there. They carry fantastic products in the spa shop btw. Upon check out, we expressed our disappointment with the woman who checked us out. From her we found out that the sulfur smell is “a common smell for your neighborhood (aka room area) and there’s nothing we can do about it”. We told her we unfortunately probably wouldn’t be back and she didn’t seem to care. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

You will be hard pressed to find better

Oct 27th, 2019

It is generally not to hard for me to find some constructive opportunities for improvement when reviewing something – but this time it is. This place does it right. The cottages are lovely and they really think of everything. Indoor fireplace/outdoor fireplace, indoor shower/outdoor shower. The setting is idyllic. Food is amazing. The views from the hilltop pool breathtaking. Umm. It is expensive – OK – yup – worth it. They should have had more coffee supplies in the cottage – OK – BFD. Opportunity to upgrade the toiletries – I am now searching. This is a special property. Super accommodations, great location, attentive staff. Plus the little market is so useful and amazing. I would definitely return. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
