Solid overall, but...

Nov 15th, 2019

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Marriott Cancun Resort from April 10th-13th, 2019. Forgive me for being way late posting this review, but I wanted to provide future guests, and in particular, Bonvoy Elite guests some insight into what they can expect. The hotel and grounds were beautiful. Everything was clean and the staff was friendly. We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner on property and would rate the food quality as above average. We particularly enjoyed lunch by the pool and beach and dinner in the Japanese restaurant. As a Bonvoy Titanium Elite member, I was offered a nice upgrade to an oceanfront room with a great view. Though as an elite member, the benefit I value most is breakfast. And this was the hotel's biggest and (to be fair) only fail. As a former SPG Platinum, I'm accustomed to being offered the full breakfast buffet at nearly every hotel. Most former Starwood properties continue to do this. However, this property only offered a continental breakfast as a welcome amenity choice. The JW next door does the same thing. In fairness, this is the minimum required by the terms and conditions of the program. I inquired about upgrading my continental to the full buffet. Expecting to at least get a credit for the value of all the items offered with the continental however, I was only offered $5 off the full buffet, which amounted to about a 20% discount. I understand this may seem like a nitpick item to some folks, but to me it seemed like they were being stingy and trying to nickel and dime their most loyal and frequent guests. Overall, this is a beautiful property. But, to the powers that be at the Marriott Cancun (if you are listening), please just offer the full breakfast to your Platinum and higher guests! Amazing hotel and staff!!

This is one hotel that I keep returning to when I visit Cancun. Bernardo, at check in, Was great. If you want great service from the pool area, look for Florentino, Enrique and Victor! They’ll always go above and beyond to make your stay memorable. The food throughout the hotel from the various restaurants is delicious and very affordable. I will continue to stay at this hotel due to the fact that the employees treat you like family. The hotel is clean with very comfortable rooms. And of course the views are amazing!! You will not be disappointed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Relaxing Stay

Nov 6th, 2019

I just checked out today from one of the most relaxing hotels stays I've had in a long time. I'm usually ready to get back in my own bed, but I hate I had to leave. Eric and Miguel at check in were awesome! They explained the hotel's amenities and upgraded me from the Carribean Suite to the Casa Magna Suite. Miguel even suggested a great taqueria not to far from the hotel. Although there was evidence the lobby was under construction it did not interrupt any aspects of our stay. The room was nice and spacious but the views were amazing. We sat on the balcony watching the waves come and go. Two 50 min massages came and $100 daily credit came with my room rate. Carmen and Elena were our masseuses for our beach massage and they made the trip even more relaxing. They did such a great job that my husband and I considered getting another one the next day. The food was good and reasonably priced. The drinks could have been a little stronger. We ate at Champions, La Isla, and room service. We've stayed at different hotels in Cancun, but the Marriott will definitely be my go to for a relaxing vacation. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Decent location, well maintained, good restaurants.

Enjoyed the experience. Staff was friendly. Pool area is fine. The restaurants were all really well managed and had good quality food and an impressive selection. Mikado is awesome and provides the ability to order sushi and Teppanyaki at the same restaurant. We loved this, as it was a show and delicious/fun. Many of the guests at Mikado restaurant had come recommended from other five star resorts...Staff at all of the restaurants were great! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Went back -- enjoyed it just as much

Nov 5th, 2019

My wife and I visited again last month and had a great time, even with a bit of construction underway. People were great, music was great at Sacbe (shout out to Maru). This hotel has become our home away from home and we will be back next year. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
