Gorgeous property!

Jul 20th, 2019

Gorgeous property. While difficult to find, as there is no sign at the road if you are driving a rental car, Apple and google maps will bring you to the correct location, which is labeled a villa. The parking garage is to your right on the main road if coming from Como. In all fairness, this hotel is new and is still working out the kinks...the hotel itself is absolutely stunning, the grounds, pool, spa, rooms, amenities, etc amazing. The housekeeping was phenomenal- exceptionally nice and very informative in comparison to the front desk staff. At checkin they never informed us of the complimentary breakfast (or the times), or that the mini bar was included in the cost of the room, or about different places on the property to visit. Housekeeping did though and were so nice in providing us with details that helped make our stay even better to the point we extended it. The service employees were top notch and anticipated our every need. The food at the hotel restuarant is terrible. Less than 1 Star. They mentioned having a great chef- maybe he was gone while we were there. We ate there several times before we decide to go to the local village or grocery store for food. Such a shame that the hotel doesn’t have better food. The pool has great drinks but no food served, would be nice to have snacks at least. We rented a boat through the concierge that was such a great deal- very reasonable, and fun for the kids. You don’t need a boaters license (although we do have one). Great way to see everything on the lake. The spa was exceptional and staff there was great. Regardless of the lack of quality food and senior staff/management - the hotel is a lovely stay and worth the drive to and from como. I do think with time this hotel will be fantastic in every way. Must stay!!!!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great setting but service leaves much to be desired

Jul 20th, 2019

Having visited Lake Como many times and being part of the MO Fan loyalty program the opening of this hotel seemed the perfect combination. On the positive side, the setting next to the lake is wonderful and the rooms were comfortable and quiet but the service was poor. As a MO Fan, early check in at noon is possible and this was confirmed in advance. Room not ready at noon, no apology, waited some more, had to ask again, eventually check in around 40 minutes later, not helpful when we had to be some where that afternoon. To get anything you seemed to have to constantly chase or ask twice, coffee for breakfast, ask twice, wait in the bar for a drink, no one comes, in the end you have to go and find someone yourself to get a drink. When checking out, called down for bags to be collected, 25 minutes later, no one has come, have to call again, eventually someone appears. No acknowledgment that you had called already and no apologies for the delay. When finally checking out, there was not any genuine interest shown in how the stay had gone, no questions asked to seek any feedback. There never seemed to be anyone in charge and everything seemed to be left to a youthful staff who either did not have the experience or had not received adequate training. The levels of service here were just so different from the usual MO standards that we have experienced the world over. Very disappointing. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

It’s stunning

Jul 19th, 2019

The hotel is stunning. It’s a beautiful spot. I could quickly run out of superlatives. I’ve been looking forward to this visit. It was recommended by a travel advisor who has never been wrong - yet some of the negative reviews on TripAdvisor had me concerned. I shouldn’t have been. Staff are friendly (charming) and European. What I mean by that is they have personality and occasionally some human foibles. I prefer that to the more robotic service I’ve received often in MO’s Asian hotels. Food has been excellent so far. Our room with a panoramic view of the lake is amongst the best we’ve stayed in. There is a snagging list - but these are minor irritations only. It’s an expensive place. Really expensive. I do think that some guests look Increasingly for faults as the price rises. If that’s you don’t come. If you love Italy, good food, a beautiful hotel on a stunning lake - is recommended it here TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Pretty but vapid

Jul 12th, 2019

At first blush this is a very pretty hotel, but a quality hotel is all about the details and those are not up to par. I believe I know what good hotel chains provide in terms of quality and service, this is my first Mandarin Oriental, but this is no five star experience. We didn't hate our time here, but certainly wouldn't recommend or go back. The price for our gigantic suite was ridiculous-we were told that they only had suites remaining so we booked them. In the suites there were so many doors to unknown places it was like a fun house. However, there was a kitchen which I could see might be useful for a family or an extended visit. The room was also handicap accessible, I don't know if all rooms are that way or just the ones we had. The room finishes were cheap, the floors were fake wood and the other details were not quality. For example, there was no rug in the bedroom, only a small one in the living room area. No marble countertops in the bathrooms. As for the staff they were not great and the people seemed to work very long hours so I'm not sure if it's their fault. Either they were untrained or tired, but some of them just had bad attitudes. The only staff that seemed to have it down was the concierge staff-especially David Rodriguez. Check in and check out staff were just not good and didn't know what they were doing. Dinner in the "casual" spot was good food, but service was bad and it was ridiculously expensive for what it was. The "fancy" restaurant was the same price and the food was good-seemed like a good value for the money at that restaurant, but it is prix fix and a lot of food. One drink at the bar was 50 euros and there was no place for us to sit because this large hotel only had a small bar area. Pretty spot, but the location is near nothing, this is not an exaggeration. The hotel should offer a shuttle or something to go to Como town since it's so expensive to stay here. Paying 30 E to go one way to town seemed ridiculous, so with the return that was a hefty charge in addition to the room rate. Wouldn't stay here ever again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
