Wonderful Resort

Sep 10th, 2020

First of all, this resort was wonderful! We must have come at an off season time because the resort did not have many guests, in fact we had the pool area to ourselves! This hotel is beautiful with a Spanish type decor. Stacey, the General Manager, was fabulous. We got our room at the last minute and she gave us a room on the top floor, balcony, whirlpool tub in the room, and ocean view. I think it was the best room for us! She gave us the room at a big discount which was an extra plus. I work in health care and really needed a break; which was provided! Stacy was always very helpful and courteous. She made the stay even better. This hotel is clean and in a good location, just steps to the beach. The distance to the beach was not bad, about a block away, and you could see the beach from our balcony. It's not a chain type hotel and is definitely a place I would stay and recommend to others. Thank you, Stacy, for making it so relaxing and wonderful! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Anniversary Celebration

Aug 18th, 2020

Thirty-five years ago my husband & I honeymooned in St Augustine, so when Covid hit, we had to scale back our celebration plans. This is a boutique old world Spanish-themed to coordinate with the Oldest City. PROS: Very Covid conscious and clean. Amazing pool area. Conveniently located in St Augustine Beach. Approx 200 yards from the beach. CONS-Limited reward-night rooms. Restaurant was closed Monday and rather pricey. Not ocean front, but limited ocean view. My husband travels for work and has been loyal to the Choice brand (Diamond) reward member. We booked two nights using rewards. When we arrived, there were no upgrades available and we were given a small king room overlooking a parking lot. We returned to the desk and were required to pay cash for a partial beach view king room. We also requested a late check out, and was only granted 1 additional hour. Though we were disappointed by this, being a brand-loyal guest, we still had an amazing and Covid-safe anniversary trip. THANK YOU Castillo Real. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

It's nice, but just average

Aug 17th, 2020

When we decided to visit St. Augustine, we decided to stay near the beach. It had to be affordable and have amenities that that we wanted. There was a nice deal on Bookings.com, so we booked it. Under "requests" , I asked for room with a balcony. They denied ever seeing that request. I asked to be upgraded to such a room and pay the difference. They refused. I took the room they reserved for us. The room was immaculate, save fingerprints on the mirrors. The bed was comfortable. The AC was more than adequate and the room was cold. We liked the large tub with Jaccuzzi that comfortably holds two. The hotel room was not very quiet. You can easily hear whomever is in the hallway, well up to after midnight. The walls were no different. I dislike any room where you can be awakened by passionate lovemaking through the walls. That's precisely what occurred. And I can hear them, they can hear us. While the entire staff was Covid compliant, the La Cocina restaurant on the premises, while boasting a fine menu and a great chef, did not enforce that to my liking. I was planning a meal there, but observed no social distancing; in fact, the room was filled with wall to wall people. We decided the risk wasn't worth it. We ate mostly take-out during our stay. Publix and a number of decent take out places were a mile away. So, pluses: a fair rate for the room, cordial staff, 200 ft. from the beach and 3 miles from most attractions, a nice large tub with Jaccuzzi and a nice king size bed.. Standard room items were Keurig coffee maker, small fridge and small microwave. We were puzzled why the coffee supplies were not in the room, since all of them are already sealed up. They were available at the front desk. Parking was free, Wifi was free, adequate, but speed in our room was erratic Minuses: Not quiet, no designated smoking area on the property (It's forbidden), inconsistent WIFI, restaurant too crowded for Covid-19, and the inability to accommodate a room change when requested. For 4 night stay, an extra roll of toilet paper in the room would have been nice. Bring wipes. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Ok, but needs renovating.

Aug 11th, 2020

The staff was flexible to change the room. The pool was nice. I think the rooms and lobby need to be updated. But they were clean. Fake plants and low on pool towels. I only saw one person at the front desk the whole time. They seem low on staff. Maybe Covid has brought some challenges. The restaurant closes early. Breakfast is great. We had a good wait staff as well. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Awesome hotel

Aug 10th, 2020

We reserved 2 adjoining rooms on the ground floor both with pool view. Hotel is charming inside, rooms are really nice with a small balcony facing pool. Perfect for a relaxing evening. Beach is about 500 ft away. I would definitely recommend this property and will be returning soon. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
