Overview
This hotel's name says it all. Situated in Tarrytown, New York, this unique lodging is literally a castle perched on a bluff overlooking the Hudson River. Constructed in 1910, the original building echoes the Norman castles of the British Isles, with epic stone walls and turrets, as well as wood paneling said to have belonged to King James II of England. And while this hotel's exterior exudes an Old World charm, the accommodations are updated with luxurious 21st century conveniences, including Tivoli Radio & Bose Sound systems, complimentary Wi-Fi access, flat-screen TVs, goose-down bed spreads and even fireplaces (in some rooms). The customer service, though, receives mixed reviews: Some recent guests said that they felt like royalty during their stay, while others said that staff seemed confused and could benefit from some additional training. Once you settle in, head to Equus restaurant, the hotel's intimate dining venue, which has both Zagat and recent patrons singing its praises.
