Best value in a desirable area

My wife and I needed a place close to CPMC as she was having surgery early the next morning following our overnight stay on a Monday night. We chose the Castle Inn after reading all the great reviews and booked directly with the hotel for a two night stay. Emily, the desk clerk, greeted me through the check in window and it was obvious the hotel was practicing safe Covid-19 prevention protocols 😊. While we would have preferred to be in a room closer to the elevator (332 would have been my first choice) we were given room 338 near the stairs at the rear of the property on the third floor. It was a large, clean room with a very comfortable King size bed, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, hair dryer, and iron with ironing board. The smallish flat screen TV had many channels as well as HBO and fee internet was provided as well. The room location was very quiet, and the only negative thing to say was the loud fan noise made when the heater kicked on, causing us to turn up the volume on the TV. When the fan kicked off, I was surprised at how loud the television was and hope it didn't annoy people in adjoining rooms! All in all, we would stay again as the hotel is in a great location with easy walks to many places to eat all along Polk street close by! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We weren't sure what to expect from the Castle Inn, but were pleasantly surprised! Both of our adjoining rooms were recently renovated with new laminate flooring, comfortable beds, updated fixtures and new bathrooms. Parking is available, but a bit tight - no problem with a compact rental car. Location was OK - Polk street has quite a few restaurants to choose from. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Nice rooms at a reasonable price

We were very happy with our stay at the Castle Inn. Damon was excellent and responded quickly when we had issues with room 117. He switched us to room 226 for the rest of our stay, and we were very happy with our stay. Beds are comfortable, rooms were clean, and the parking is free. The property is in an excellent location with plenty of popular destinations within walking distance. We just left our car parked in the lot for 3 days. There are many great local eateries on nearby Polk Street. ("The New Spot On Polk" has outstanding breakfasts). We highly recommend the Castle Inn to visit San Francisco on a budget. Safe & convenient location with free parking & renovated room

We have limited experience with SF hotels but were pleasantly surprised by our stay at Castle Inn. Its in a convenient & safe location, with nice renovated rooms and free on site parking, all for under $100! What more can u ask for? Located in Russian Hill district, around the Van Ness Broadway intersect, we didn't encounter any wondering souls. Out car was safely tucked away inside the hotel courtyard parking. Check in was quick, Damon was a no none-sense fellow. The old fashion elevator reminded me of the God-Father era lifts, took us a while just to figure out how to open it. We were given the 2-queen size room. Other than the 2 beds, the living space was dominated by the long working/eating counter top desk. Bathroom was quite nice, everything was well laid out and easy for the eyes. There was space for a closet, a microwave and a fridge with separate freezer & non-freezer sections! I have never seen that in any hotels. The toilet & shower/tub were in a separate area. The tub was small, the shower head was prob about 5'8" tall. Water was piping hot & pressure was good, we had difficulties wrestling with the shower knob that controlled the temp & pressure. I felt like a P-38 pilot suddenly being placed behind the controls of a lumbering B-24. To our amazement there was a functioning AC system, the humming can be a nuisance esp if your bed is right next to it, so bring ear plugs. Beds were comfy enough, mattresses were of medium firmness. There was nothing fancy about the pillows, they were not exactly plush but adequate. Outside lights were sufficiently blacked out by dual curtains. Please note 1 of those 2 curtains are made of see through fabric! If you are not sure which is which, just pull both curtains down to ensure complete privacy. We had some issues with the TV, but Damon promptly came to our room and solved the problem. Nearby there's Lombard St, House of Prime Ribs and Ruth's Chris. Two blocks down on Polk there are Philz, Peet's and SBUX all next to each other. There were ongoing construction outside the hotel on Broadway, our room was facing the interior courtyard so we barely noticed. We felt safe inside and around the hotel area. Overall it was a very pleasant stay at Castle Inn. Safe and great location, free parking and a great price. We will be back TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
What wonderful service

I had booked the hotel through reading TripAdvisor reviews When we arrived my family were a bit put out. The building and the room looked a bit faded, and shabby. However we quickly relaised that it was very convenient. Easy to get to all the toursit places, easy to meet friends, very good restaurants and shops nearby. The room had all the conveniences, it was comfortable and clean, and quite frankly we were not spending much time in the hotel in any case The best part was that the people managing the front desk were so wonderful You could not ask for a more friendly and helpful service Thank you from all of us TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
