Great place

This is a great place to vacation, food fantastic, room was great, Oscar the bartender was fabulous. The beach was not what we expected but lots of pools. Spa was very nice, massage was very relaxing. Great place. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

You Get What You Pay For!

Room-we got the garden view, cheapest room-package was good price. We got a 2 star room at a 4 star resort. We were in building 2. It was a basic room with stains on the floor-never mopped with soap and water the whole week, darks stains in the tub, a sink faucet that you could only put on a certain way otherwise water would leak on the counter. The thermostat didn’t work-we were either freezing or hot. No alarm clock or iron/board. Paper thin walls-used ear plugs the whole week. Cleaners started cleaning at 8am andk loud, hello..on vacation! Didn’t upgrade because I shouldn’t need to. Have been to 3, 31/2, and 4 star resorts with the cheapest rooms before but this was the worst room we’ve ever been in....and we’ve gone to Cuba. Location of the room was good but they shouldn’t be selling these rooms. We had stayed at Catalonia in Cancun and Playa in the past and were really looking forward to this place. That’s why we decided to try this resort. Very disappointed! Restaurants and drinks were good. Didn’t care for the tapas restaurant. Thought it would be only tapas. I picked wrong items on that menu-my fault. The Grill is good both for lunch and supper.(ribeye) The crepes were good and had some nice ice cream treats as well. The food truck just has hot dogs. Wish the bartenders would not rush making the margaritas. Had big chunks of ice in the drinks. It was nice to have champagne at a 4 star resort. No straws at this resort, so bring your reusable. Wifi-worked 25% of the time. Location-too far from the airport. We came in on a Saturday which is a busy day for the airport. Time we came into the airport and got to our resort was 4 hours. Not happy. Beach-is small but never had problems getting a lounger-lots of shade. The ocean is enter at own risk. There’s a big dip in the ocean and then big rocks. Not easy to walk across to get in deeper water. Entertainment-good. Lots of entertainment day and night. Night had a good variety for adults and families. Impressed with all the dances they had to learn and the many different costumes. The live music was really good. Daytime-beach volleyball had good turnouts and many pool games. The tennis and mini golf were getting renovated so couldn’t use that. Not going back to this resort. Good price but not worth it. Should be lowered to a 3 star resort. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Our 4th visit!!

We love it!! We actually got married here this year! He prosper to me on the Catalonia beach last year. We had our family and friends from Minnesota and Wisconsin join us! Everyone had a lovely time!! Paloma, our wedding coordinator and the Catalonia crew made our wedding perfect!!! We are so excited to come back next year to celebrate our anniversary!! overall this hotel is not a 4 star hotel, maximum 3-3.5. on a scale of 0-5, customer service 0-1, rooms 2, food 3-4, lost & found service 0, cleaning room service 0 (out of 7 days of stay, they just cleaned our room once). rooms are small and old, if you expect to travel 3 ppl, no extra room and you will sleep near door on a twin bed. don't waste your money, you could find much better place! 2020 disgusting trip-will never come back to this resort

2019 trip-disaster We booked 10 days in January 2019 and noticed the services started to go down (quality wise) even though we were considered privilege clients that meant no noticeable difference at all... Due to lack of anti-adherent carpet (it did not exist) to protect slippery area in front of the ramp leading to toilets located next to El Mercado restaurant, my wife felt down and broke a leg (kneecap) on the 7-th day of our stay! Consequently we were transferred to Hospiten hospital in Playa del Carmen where my wife had a surgery so we did not receive any services from Catalonia Yucatan resort during our last 3 days of the trip (we requested a courtesy transport between hospital and resort to get changing clothing from our room) but Alix (manager) refused to help us-shame on you Alix! Finally I succeeded to get back to the resort on the 10-th day, on my own expenses, to do the check out, recover our entire luggage, and leave with a very bitter taste about this treatment received from the resort-shame on you General Manager for the lack of safety on critical areas and for the way you treated us! Do not pretend your resort was safe that time as we have photos proving the contrary and, while we were waiting for paramedics, at least one other person (young man) almost felt down on the same spot going to the toilets! 2020 disgusting trip-will never come back to this resort As my wife had multiple surgeries (following a year before accident that occurred in the same Catalonia Yucatan resort) we booked again our trip (only for medical reason and because we knew the place), for 2 weeks in January 2020, as my wife is not recovered and has a limited mobility, hoping this time THE UPPER MANAGEMENT would treat us as VERY SPECIAL CUSTOMERS as we notified the customer service many weeks in advance (by e-mail) about our stay and asked that THE UPPER MANAGEMENT be informed about it and accommodate us with the best conditions! Once arrived at the resort by 4 am we quickly understood we got screwed: no welcome provided, got regular customers blue bracelets, no appropriate room given (got the one next to the Yucatan side noisy lobby, right above kinder garden...), empty minibar, no food, bad smelling room with not properly functioning AC system...WOW!!! We had to get some rest as the trip was very exhausting (over 6 hours delay flight) and in the afternoon we asked to talk to General Manager in person. The front desk declined our request and the customer service representative Carla did not help too much (apparently because of lack of decisional authority), she only changed our bracelets with orange ones (which meant nothing and not provided us with real privileges at all), switched the room during the 2-nd day of our stay with another one we had a year before and put a couple of beers in minibar. Consequently we had to give big tips (that we could buy 3 x bottles for) to get one single type of tequila shots we could drink and asked for. We booked one lobster dinner ( Be Loved terrace) but not impressed at all as it was not cooked properly...after leaving the place we had to drink a lot of lime juice not to get sick; we also tried steak house but again lousy service as the meals requested were not well prepared and the red wine disgusting so we chose water to drink... WOW!!! After the first week, seeing that we even got refused to get our requested tequila, we requested again to see the General Manager and instead only Alix came to see us, telling us that GM went on his vacation (WOW!!!)so we tried to have a “gentlemen agreement” with her and get something for us-what a pain in the neck-she fooled us by providing us with a single bottle of tequila despite the fact she promised to replace it when empty-which never happened till the end of our stay (even though we notified her in person) as she arranged herself to stay away from us by “making low profile”. When I addressed this issue to the front desk and customer service reps and asked the GM or his replacement to come over and talk to us, that person did not even bother to move her body (not to use another word) and see us and Lesley (customer service) became very arrogant proposing me to buy another bottle- REALLY DISCUSTING-HOW DARE YOU!!! By not getting any compensation for the previous 3 lost days in your resort during 2019 trip, nor for your fault that caused my wife accident you guys thought you could buy our silence with a bottle of tequila and some canned beers??? REALLY??? In general the services went downhill and the worse service we got was in El Mercado resto as it was limited by having the same food almost every day, not good tables available to accommodate my wife walking around with a cane, and few times we had to leave the place very disappointed without serving anything... We believe the AC filter was not changed for long time and we started to cough during our stay (no matter how low we set the temperature, we only got 23-24 deg. Celsius in our room). The room we stayed in was not renovated at all (same conditions as in 2019). Men’s toilets and Women’s toilets next to La Brisa were out of order one week each. Women’s toilet in Bamboleo buffet was disgusting, dirty most of the time, lack of washing liquids and paper, not flushing properly etc. In restos some meals were not cooked properly at all and we had to use a lot of lime most of the time not to get sick! Raw vegetables not boiled correctly, pork chops hard as a stone, lack of seafood we used to have (shrimps) limited available natural squid (3 times only in 2 weeks) so on. The better service we got at La Brisa buffet/resto as some Mayan personnel recognized us from the previous year’s stay and tried to serve us as well as they could (despite the fact the same food was served every day for 2 weeks with a very tiny variation). We especially want to thank you Yamely, Judith, Guadalupe and the other people that took care of us as your services have been much appreciated! Thank you Marco and Pablo at least for listening us! Most of Mayan personnel and couple of supervisors are hard working employees and we treated them with the highest respect as they deserved it!!! Upper and mid Management involved in our case should resign if they have honour!!! If not, we expect that Catalonia International will fire them for mismanaging our case!!! To General Manager or others: do not even dare to reply back to this review as we do not accept any excuses, apologies or explanations-SHAME ON YOU FOR THE WAY YOU GUYS TREATED US!!! WE WILL NEVER GO BACK TO CATALONIA YUCATAN AGAIN, ADIOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
