Delightful in every way

Sep 28th, 2019

We stayed two nights at the Chateau while touring Normandy and Bayeux - both of which are within a 15 - 20' taxi ride. The property and building are stunningly beautiful in a pastoral old world sense. At the same time, the chateau's interior is modern and completely comfortable. We had a delicious lunch near the pool. Our dinner in the main dining room was one of the best meals we had in France. From the moment of our arrival through check-out, the staff were excellent. We’ve just had a 3 night stay at this amazing property. It was a wonderful experience. Part of the small luxury hotel chain. The staff couldn’t do enough for us especially Etienne and Mickie. The chateau is set amongst beautiful grounds with a charming veg and herb garden and a fantastic pool area. It’s dog friendly too. We highly recommend especially if you have pets. Breakfast and dinner in the botanist was exceptional too. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Charming small hotel in the countryside

Sep 17th, 2019

The hotel is a short drive to both the town of Port en Bessin and Bayeaux (in the opposite direction). It is an ideal place to stay when visiting the Normandy beaches, the American Cemetery and Memorial as well as the Bayeaux Tapestry and the Notre Dame of Bayeaux Cathedral. We even drove to Mont St. Michel from here---but it is a bit of a long day. The hotel has two restaurants--one in the hotel (Le Botaniste) and one in the garden back beyond the manor by the pool (Le Petit Jardin)---the food was very good in both locations. There are rooms in the manor house, and there are also renovated rooms in the space that at one time had been the stables--we liked our room in the newer stable section. The grounds are gorgeous, with an interesting mix throughout the gardens---the hotel provides a map, which provides the names of each of the trees. Breakfast is served in the manor house in the space that at night becomes Le Botaniste restaurant---one can order off the menu or enjoy their buffet. The staff was always very pleasant and tried very hard to please. Check out my photos for more details. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

A Lovely Stay

Sep 4th, 2019

We had the opportunity to stay at La Cheneviere last month, and our only complaint is that we couldn’t stay longer! The chateau and the grounds are absolutely magnificent. We stayed in a Junior Suite, and the room was incredibly spacious. It had all the amenities you could ask for, including bathrobes and slippers. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the attention to detail was not only present in our suite, but throughout the hotel. The room truly was the perfect quiet, quaint retreat. They also included some great welcome gifts, which we absolutely loved. We ate dinner at Le Petit Jardin - it was phenomenal and innovative. We shared a few appetizers, and then had the chocolate infused filet steak, which was excellent. Unfortunately we were there on a Monday, so we didn’t get the opportunity to dine at their other restaurant, the Botanist, but did enjoy breakfast in the same room the following morning, which was beautiful. The buffet was extensive and generous. That’s when we got to sample their honey, which is sourced from their own hive on the property. We also loved exploring the grounds, which included a pool, tennis court and vegetable garden! The location of the chateau can’t be beat. It’s close to Bayeux and all the Normandy sites, making it a great ‘home base.’ TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not five star hotel more like Fawlty Towers

Aug 22nd, 2019

We made a late booking at the hotel la cheneviere. On arrival, we were given a nice welcome drink and installed outside the reception. We were then explained the rooms were being made ready and which numbers there were; although they needed to make them ready. It took 3.5 hours in the end through which we sat waiting with our 2 year old baby. The room service lady then arrived to get the beds made as it turned out the rooms still were not quite ready was very friendly and help. It turned out though that it was not possible to have a twin bed arranged in any of the rooms for the two teenagers ...the hotel advertises the availability of “DVD players and popcorn “ so we thought the youngsters could have a evening in the room while we went to the restaurant. The entertainment turned out not to be available after all. We then tried to organise some food for the kids but the hotel blankly refused to bring anything else than a cheese platter or smoked salmon platter that was on the room service menu. There is an ala Carte menu in the restaurant but they refused to bring any of that. I have never stayed in a 5 star hotel that can not accommodate some food for children. When we went to reception to complain- the manager communicated via the reception that he was too busy and we should come and find him ourselves. We contemplated all going to have dinner in the restaurant instead but were at this point so upset with the attitude and service that we decided to go elsewhere. The whole point of coming to this place was to enjoy the hotel and restaurant- in the end it was a waste of time and money.... TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
