has seen better days

Dec 10th, 2019

staff attentive, helpful for the most part, they certainly do their best. room was very clean, linen and pillows fair but the furniture in the room has seen better days. the desk chair and the wingback chair were filthy. wallpaper (!) torn and scuffed. nasty little coffee pot w powdered everything. had to ask for a fridge and extra glasses. towels not large or good quality. “buffet” breakfast ok but really overpriced (for the same price you can get a fabulous breakfast at OEB just a couple blocks away). the cables outside the bldg for the window cleaners’ stage banged against the windows/bldg when windy so forget a decent sleep. maybe the concierge floor better, but would not recommend except for a quick stay and certainly not for business. location good but really needs a thorough upgrade. disappointed

Dec 3rd, 2019

I want to start by saying my room was very clean and I had a wonderful view of the city. I decided to treat myself and stay a couple of nights on the concierge floor. My room was on the 23 floor which is the top floor of rooms in the Chateau Lacombe. Staff were friendly, but other than that I was quite disappointed for the following reasons. 1: My room was very very hot. I complained three times and they said there was nothing they could do. I found a fan in the closet and used it, but I still couldn't sleep because of the heat. 2: Concierge level (according to website) is adults only. The other rooms on my floor were FULL of kids. A sports team or something. They usually weren't a bother, but it is still misleading. 3: Cocktails and appetizers in the concierge lounge was disappointing as well as the continental breakfast. Cocktails consisted of wine or beer. One type of white, one red. A few different beer choices. The appetizers consisted of smoked salmon, cheese, nuts, fruit. Maybe if there was even a cracker or two would of helped. 2nd night had no smoked salmon. My first morning I came for breakfast at 8:00 and there was literally 3 pastries, some grapes, and some cheese. That was it! 2nd morning a girl appeared and asked if I would like toast so it was a bit better. They could take a lesson from Banff Springs hotel as to what a concierge lounge should be. 3: I ate in the hotel lounge the first night and because there was a Christmas party that for some reason was in the hallway instead of in a meeting room the lounge became very busy. I waited and waited for my bill, then I tried to stand in line at the bar to pay. I finally gave up and wrote my room number and what I had on a napkin and left it on my table. I was charged so I guess they got it. 4: Went to the gym in the morning and the equipment is pretty wore out. It was also very hot in there so it was a very short workout. I have stayed at the Chateau Lacombe before but this is the first time on the concierge level and it will be my last time. It is not worth the price difference from a regular room. I just found it really disappointing. I was looking forward to treating myself and it certainly wasn't a treat. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

VVIP VISIT

Nov 25th, 2019

This hotel is very close to the city centre, shopping and sightseeing centers around Edmonton. We lodged a VIP here and when we got there for check in at 2:50pm, the room was not ready and we had to wait for around 30 mins. Although the hotel staff apologised but not what was expected of such standard hotel. The view was amazing and the concierge level 20th floor is a great idea. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Rooms were HOT in November

Nov 24th, 2019

There were four of us staying in the room. Very small space. Room lighting was inadequate. Staff was friendly. While we were there apparently all of the rooms were hot (25C). We were given a fan. Windows did not open so it just blew the hot air around. Not at all comfortable to sleep. We were told that the hotel had turned their cooling system off, and management and owners had meetings with maintenance and were aware, but were doing nothing about the issue. However, the hallways and lobby managed to be cool. Breakfast was ok, glad it was included with the room - would not have wanted to pay $22 for it. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
