The kind of apartment I would love to have as a "Pied-a-terre" in LA

Jun 10th, 2019

My husband and I were celebrating his birthday and splurged on this hotel. We could not have been happier! We felt like we had taken a trip back in time and to another place--like France. The suite we had was like an apartment and we decided to get our monies worth by hanging out there for quite a bit of our visit. It was very relaxing. Since the hotel is nestled in the start of some hills it has a beautiful expansive view aways out over LA. Highlights included the delicious smelling toiletries, dinner at the hotel restaurant with a fabulous French wine list, drinks in the cute bar and in the lounge area which had entertainment. One of my pet peeves when I travel is room service food usually being lukewarm We ordered breakfast both mornings and the quality of the baked goods was excellent and the coffee was generous and PIPING HOT! We enjoyed the pool which was a lovely temperature and had a fabulous dinner at Chateau Hanare just a few steps away. Everywhere the staff was exceptional. This is a unique property. We enjoy staying at upscale places such as the Ritz-Carlton and often one could be anywhere in the world, but Chateau Marmont exudes character and old-world charm. Several times a staff member would approach us to ask us about checking in say for the lounge or the bar or whatever, I took it to mean that they take their task of serving their customer very seriously and very personally. We can't wait to go back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The Emperors Old (Hollywood) Clothes

Jun 9th, 2019

Utterly charming at a quarter of the price, a bit galling at $1000 a night. So I feel Like a mug. I’m as much into the idea of Liz Taylor and Richard Burton having been here as the next man, but I don’t want to be paying off their funeral expenses. It’s got character for sure, from the 1950’s Bathroom and Kitchen areas in our suite down to the period light switches and lamp shades. But the thing about the 1950’s is we moved on for reasons like walk in showers, and decent complementary toiletries, and ‘his n hers’ basins, and flat surfaces to put your things on. All yet-to-be-invented. To be fair some of the objects in the 1950’s kitchen have been updated way into the distant future post the coming hyperinflation; $8 for the still water and $10 for the Gummy Pandas for example. And the service. It’s Weird, kind of there on the button at times, body-double smiles and all, but mostly airy and absent. So, in summary, an experience. I wouldn’t even advise you against it. As long as you are loaded, a bit impressionable, and not too fussy. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Amazing Oasis in Hollywood

May 7th, 2019

Myself and my partner booked a garden cottage for 3 nights and had the time of our lives! Amazing restored apartment in the heart of Hollywood in a tropical oasis. Pool and ping pong in the garden were fun and not to mention the restaurant and bar of the hotel. Amazing place to stay filled with old Hollywood history! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Only go for drinks if booked!

May 7th, 2019

We were super disappointed to get here (having been dropped off by a driver) to find out it was reservation only for drinks. We've not had this issue before in venues of this caliber, and found it a bit odd. The team outside were a bit odd too. Don't get caught out! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
