A perfect getaway

Feb 28th, 2020

I just got home from a four-night stay at Cheeca Lodge with my husband and nine year-old, and it did NOT disappoint. We stayed in a resort-view one bedroom king suite, and the room was the nicest and cleanest I've ever had while traveling. Huge bathroom, section off with separate sinks, a kitchen, and a large screened-in balcony with double open sliding doors. The bed was amazing, and even the pullout bed was comfortable for my daughter. We loved opening up the doors in the morning and spent a lot of time on our very private balcony, which looked out onto a mix of palm and other trees, mostly blocking the pathway below. It was so peaceful! The only negative is the noise of the air conditioner, but that's all part of that type of system and it was quiet in the bedroom. The resort itself is as lovely as the pictures. Impeccable pools, attentive staff (loved that they walked around offering ice water at the pool), and the grounds were very well maintained. Unfortunately the weather was very windy, so we weren't able to paddle board or snorkel, but we were not bored! We did a jet ski tour, which was definitely a bumpy ride, but our guide, Trevor, was excellent. We fished every morning and sat by the fire on the beach every night. The only restaurant we tried was Atlantic's Edge, and the seafood was top notch. We ate at several other local places (Chef Michael's and Kaiyo were our favorite!) and never had a bad meal. I had done my research ahead of time and knew that this was not a "beach swimming" resort, so be prepared for that. There is seaweed, as in all of the Keys, and there are jellyfish. The resort was pretty full, but it never seemed that way. I can't recommend it enough if you're looking for a place to just to escape reality for a little while. Wish I was still there!!! Outstanding resort - overall. It is a must to visit this resort, and I will come back for sure. The room, the pools, the beach, the activity offers, the surroundings, the food and the service are high class. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Seating needs improvement

Feb 26th, 2020

We stayed for a week while exploring the surrounding Keys. The grounds are lovely, the pools and beach are as well. Our dining experience was excellent for breakfast and lunch...unfortunate dinner experience with lots of noise and chatter while they were setting up for a large group. Bars were outstanding. Executive golf course is cute, but a little rough. Room was quite nice (bungalow with parking directly below) with a great screened porch. Unfortunately the seating on the large porch was only straight backed dining room style chairs. Not at all comfortable for lounging. And the chairs in the room were similar. Looking at other buildings, this chair seemed to be the standard everywhere but one building which had nice looking rocking chairs. We complained several times, but nothing was done. We will not go back with these chairs. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The Cheeca Feels like home

Feb 26th, 2020

Every time I walk in the door of the Cheeca it feels like coming home. The staff is so welcoming and always ready to help I s. When my college aged son and his girlfriend had an impossible time getting an Uber to the Key West airport, the concierge Shequitta Burns arranged a driver in 10 minutes and they made the flight!
