Moldy bathroom - no face towels

Mar 4th, 2020

They advertised Complimentary Breakfast , that occurred once during our entire stay , that was Sunday. Told Monday and Tuesday - no food . Monday, ran out and the staff indicated they didn't have a credit card to buy more food. Tuesday a sign was posted indicating management changed the policy on Complimentary Breakfast. Arrived from CA on red eye at 11am Sat room not ready no big deal ( expected) . Came back at 3pm set up in Donna Reed rm 404 to a moldy bathroom that they would not let us move out of until Monday . Monday got moved to 402 where TV and bed were broken, phone did not work , moved again to another room 404 ( Ann Margaret) no working phone , but no mold in bathroom Complained to management Took pictures, have pictures which were provided to your staff This place has charm but not the charm it's advertising nor the pictures used to embolden the look/feel of the place. False advertising Requesting a refund as the staff lied consistently , forced us to stay in a health hazard room for an unnecessary amount of time. The day we left the contractor hired to deal with the moldy Donna Reed bathroom thanked us for the referral and work No face towels were ever provided after repeatedly being asked Channels available on your TV required re-scanning 2x a day to view properly The extra locks on the doors to the rooms don't lock , but not a worry as I room bound as I got was sick, so any one breaking in would have caught me throwing up in the moldy bathroom I've written to NYC BBB the NYC tourist board. It feels like this place went thru some sort of major management change from the time I researched booking this place to the time my party arrived TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great location and value for money

Feb 27th, 2020

My stay at the Chelsea Pines was fine. Great value for money and unbeatable location. It's close to metro stations and to a bunch of good restaurants. The only thing is that one day, they didn't make up the room and internet access was very unrealiable. Not a deal breaker for me though. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Ideal location and friendly efficient service

Dec 13th, 2019

As this one was our third trip to NYC as a couple we had already seen most of the top-notch spots for tourists. Now we intended to get to know more about the village and Downton. This hotel is a perfect place to stay to achieve this goal. Very close to the train and to important places at walking distance. Their movie themed rooms are really comfy and the staff is at all times ready to assist you on anything. Thanks. I would like to suggest, if I may, two points to make it better. It would be very convenient to have installed some reading lamps at each side of the bed. The ones on the ceiling cast a light a bit gloomy and reading is not comfortable. The Internet Wi-Fi at the rooms, our room was at the third floor, was quite erratic and the signal was lost every now and then. If you wanted to surf with no hiccups the best spot was at the breakfast 'room' located at the ground floor. There's no doubt we may return to the hotel in any future trip to NYC. New York gem

Nov 9th, 2019

Stayed here for 8 nights. Well priced, excellent location in the heart of meatpacking district and on the doorstep of West and Greenwich Villages. 14th Street metro station is practically on your doorstep. Basic breakfast was included (I loved the bagels) and served in a lovely courtyard. Only downfall is there is no lift but staff will help you with your luggage. Room was an ok size and clean. Would stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hide Away Suite - big space but some issues

Nov 2nd, 2019

We stayed in the ‘hide away suite’ in september, which is a huge basement studio apartment with a large living area, dining table and kitchen. It is an amazing size for central New York and nicely designed but there are some significant issues to be aware of. As a result of this we came away feeling we had been overcharged for what was provided. The most disappointing aspect of all this is that when we raised the problems by email with the manager we got no reply. The same email was then forwarded to the front desk and weeks later there has still been no reply. To try and help people decide if they should book this room/apartment here is some more detail. The Chelsea Pines is a basic but welcoming guest house in a great location - it’s quiet but only a few minute’s walk to Chelsea market and Greenwich Village. The ‘hide away suite’ is a lot bigger than any of their other rooms and is very expensive for a guest house (on a par with a normal room in a 5 star hotel). We weren’t expecting it to be 5 star hotel service/standards, but unfortunately it wasn’t equipped or maintained to an acceptable standard in the kitchen and bathroom, even for a basic guest house. The kitchen looks great but isn’t functional at the moment - it is quite grubby in places and although there’s a good cooker and fridge, there’s a really random selection of utensils/equipment. It’s not even close to having a full set of basics, so you couldn’t book this to self-cater. For example there were 2 champagne glasses, but no other glasses, mugs, kettle or coffee machine. The bathroom was clean and hi spec (if a little dated), but isn’t being maintained properly. There are 2 sinks, but one had the water and waste pipes disconnected and the other had a bucket under it. The electrical sockets by the sinks were wobbly. There was also a leak coming from under the floor in the living area which we reported and soaked up with towels but from the degrading paintwork it looks like this was a long-standing problem. When we asked for glasses at the front desk we were sent to the communal dining room, which would have been fine except there were none there! The staff said they were sorry but the glasses had all been taken away by other guests and gave us 2 mugs for our beer/water. Even for a guest house it is poor not to have enough glasses for all your guests - the mugs did the job but it contributed to us feeling we had over paid. If you want a lot of space in a great location and a large comfy living area this is still worth considering, but it’s a lot to pay to have so many problems and defects. The desk staff are very polite and friendly but don’t expect them to be able to resolve any significant problems - they don’t have much back up and may refer you to the absent manager. That really didn’t help us as he has ignored our emails. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
