I had serious doubts about staying here, after initially thinking I was staying at a Clarion hotel (not knowing it had changed to Ramada recently). My confirmation that I received through my company's booking tool showed the hotel was a Clarion and was the closest hotel to the office I was going to be visiting. However, later, when I got to the hotel, it said Ramada on the front, so wasn't sure I was at the right location, but the address matched so, it had to be correct. However, there was nowhere to park, despite the website saying there is onsite parking. Maybe that was in reference to the spots already taken up in front of the hotel? I didn't want to double-park or park in the delivery zone, and risk getting towed. No signage that I could see as to where else I could park. There looked like there was a parking lot next to the hotel but it said 'private property' and the gate was locked. I drove around for 30 min looking for a place to park, but found nothing what I consider close and did not feel safe walking to/from the hotel at night. Tried calling the hotel for help but could not get through after 10 min of trying. I ended up canceling my stay by calling the global number, and then booked into a different hotel entirely, a couple blocks away, for a much higher rate. This Ramada may have been an 'ok' place to stay if you use ride-hailing services or public transit to get around. Perhaps the ongoing construction in the area is part of the problem...not sure, but I'd look elsewhere for now. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The hotel is pretty much like Oakland - worn and OKish, but not too pleasant to stay longer. The whole place smelled a bit funny, the rooms are small and worn, breakfast is quite limited, and service average. Gym is really small, but luckily the Lake Merritt is nearby for a pleasant morning run. The table in my room was sticky, and I had to clean it before able to put anything on it. I am still here for one more night but have to post this now. They're trying to charge me a $150 cleaning fee for "smoking" in the room and I am NOT a smoker! Shower steam set the alarm off and they barge in saying it "smells like smoke." Again, not a smoker, never have been! They discontinued my room key and made me get another at the front desk. Absolute BS. For the third time, I DO NOT SMOKE. You guys are awful. Intense construction going on directly across the street which is not disclosed either. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Charged me inappropriately

I booked a 1 night stay here, however due to the fact that they do not have parking at all (you have to park in a public lot 2 blocks away) I canceled my reservation. I canceled several days before the cancelation deadline, and received a cancelation number. The day after my original scheduled arrival I noticed a charge for this hotel on my online credit card account. I immediately called the hotel, got an EXTREMELY rude woman who refused to give me her name, and refused to help. All she kept saying was I was a no-show and there was nothing she could do. I kept explaining to her I canceled the reservation almost a week prior, AND had a cancelation number. She just did not care, and completely refused to do anything. I asked for her manager, who OF COURSE was not there. She said I could email, which I told her was not really possible as I was traveling. She literally said “TOO BAD” and hung up on me. I pulled over, found my screen shot of the cancelation with the number and called back. Same person answers, and was even Ryder than the first time. I had been prepared to get the email address, but now that she was even more rude to me, I asked to speak to her manager. She said again they were not there, but she had called the manager and they said there was nothing they could do. Now I am fuming... I told her she needed to call the manager back and have them call me immediately. Then without another word, she hung up again. I then called choice hotels guest relations. I get someone who puts me on hold, and then we get disconnected. While I was about to call them back, my phone rings... it’s the same rude woman from the hotel, she then tells me as a COURTESY, they will refund my money.... A COURTESY????! THAT is NOT a courtesy.. they should never have charged me in the first place.... it is correcting their mistake!!!!! I tell her this, and again... she hangs up... I called guest relations back, and they assured me the credit will be applied.... Do not stay here, unless you want inappropriate charges applied to your account!!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We had a perfect stay at this hotel and the hotels General Manager was very helpful and made our stay the best. We park the car close to the hotel in a 24hr garage and used the train (5min walk from the hotel) to travel to downtown San Fransisco (20 min), and avoid parking problem´s and saved time.
