Disappointing and embarrassing

May 11th, 2020

We booked multiple rooms here for our wedding in December. We had stayed here several times in the past and loved the private balconies, the view (watching whales from our rooms!), and the stairs from the hotel right down to the quiet beach below. We had never had problems before. However, this time left us disappointed. The stairs down to the beach are no longer there, and that alone is understandable due to erosion, but it was still very disappointing. The rooms were worse though. It looks like they’ve been renovating, but the improvements appear unfinished. The wood floors were a nice thought, but terribly scuffed to the point that they looked dirty, and very cold. (One room had a rug, but the others did not.) Also, if you’re going to repaint the rooms bright white, you should probably make an effort to wipe down the baseboards and walls. The dust and grime buildup everywhere looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months, and there were drips of rust-colored liquid on the walls in the sink area. When we turned on the jetted tub, we got a lot of grime and foamy soap scum coming out of the jets. One of our wedding guests disappointedly told me their coffee maker was filthy to the point where they didn’t want to try using it. When you’re bringing family to celebrate and show them a good time, it’s really embarrassing when the rooms don’t hold up to their former standards. I don’t think we will return. First of all, the General Manager, Sharleen Hughes is nice. She put me in a room with a wonderful view. Thanks, Sharleen. But Tammy (front desk) has to GO! When I checked in (Choice Diamond member), Tammy was telling me how she has nothing to do with Choice. She was rude when I checked-in and she was rude when I checked-out 7 days later. Days before my departure, I requested a late check-out. In fact, I requested a late check-out with 2 different front desk employees. I'd be leaving around noon on a Monday. Tammy wanted me out by 11:30. It was already agreed upon. I'd be leaving at 12:00. It was Monday. It was slow. Tammy DEMANDED THAT I LEAVE AT 11:30? Tammy is an hourly employee at the front desk. I'm a Choice Diamond member. And when I checked out, I asked her if the Clarion Surfrider is a Choice property? (We all know it is. I just wanted to see if she was a bull-headed liar.) Tammy said nothing, but she shook her head "no". What a winner! Also when I checked out, Tammy mentioned me "not spending anything"? My room wasn't free. I guess Tammy meant the restaurant. No, I didn't go to their restaurant behind the front desk. So, big deal. I didn't go. IT ONLY TAKES ONE EMPLOYEE! Tammy was rude, arrogant, and disrespectful. The Guests are the ones who suffer when an employee is unhappy. It is supposed to be HOSPITALITY - you know, "guests come first". There is no hot coffee in the lobby. They want you to go spend $2.00 at their restaurant. The Internet was OUT one whole day! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The view!!!

Ocean view is spectacular!!It’s a pretty neat little walk down to the beach via a side trail. Fogarty Creek is a wonder to see. Lots to explore all around, or you could just stay right there and hear the ocean as long as you need. Couldn’t quite figure out the jetted tub or the TV remote, but we were pretty tuckered. Pet friendly, but we found out that you cannot leave your pet alone in the room, even if you are going to dinner...They asked us to put our little chihuahua in the car if we were to go grab a bite to eat. Other than that odd rule, it was a pleasant getaway. Couple of these pics are from our balcony. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

"Beautiful View, Quiet, and Comfortable"

Feb 26th, 2020

My husband and I have been coming to the Surfrider over the last couple of years. We bought coupons through "Rose City Deals". Visiting the Oregon Coast with friends is perfect here because the rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. The adjacent restaurant has a gorgeous view and delicious food at a comparable price. Depot Bay is just a couple miles down the road and Lincoln City and Cape Disappointment is an easy drive as well. The room is equipped with an extremely comfortable bed, microwave, coffee pot, refrigerator, jetted tub and/or gas fireplace, dvd player (current dvds can been checked out for free), and a private balcony. A couple could also choose to have a room in the adult only complex. The service is exceptional and accommodating to many diverse needs. We will continue to return to the Surfrider every year, guaranteed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Go To Place on the Central Oregon Coast

Feb 22nd, 2020

We've been going here for many years. It's perfect for families, couples in the adults only building and those unwilling to pay exorbitant rates at exclusive resorts. The views from the balcony are perfect with a permanent pod of gray whales blowing 100+ yards off the balcony at times. Surfrider is all inclusive with a wonderful pool, hot tub and sauna. The on site restaurant with beautfiul views provides good quality and value. The rooms have been updated with comfortable beds and decor. We visit up and down the oregon coast but we stay here 25+ nights a year in retirement. Located 2 miles north from Depoe Bay it's located quietly off the highway. Helpful friendly staff completes the perfect beach getaway. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
