Just back from 2 weeks

When arrived the reception staff stated there was only around 400 of the 1600 capacity. The 2nd week it went down to 170. When arrived we complained about the rooms to be told that all rooms are the same. The main bedroom was ok and basic but our views were rubbish but the main issue was the toilet. It had a bath which was difficult for the wifes mother and father (both late 70s) to get in and out for a shower and they didnt feel safe. Also the hairdryer was around 60 years old. Again we were told they are all the same. My wife took an hour to dry her hair and it heated up so much she had to wrap a towel around it. The rooms were dated and badly needs an upgrade. Starting with the good points. Plenty sunbeds as no-one there and the staff were all brill and always helpful. The second week was better as extra entertainment staff were drafted in. They entertainment said they normally have 16 but were down to around 5. But they did their best with what was available. Resteraunts and Bar staff also very good and they opened our wine when needed. Food was pretty poor most days. Breakfast was the worse. Nights was hit and miss and some nights they had a carvrey or asian etc which were ok. We ended up eating out most lunch times and a few nights. Drink was all local and the beer the first few days was drinkable. It held its head but after a few days the beer was flat seconds after pouring. Not really a spirit person so I struggled and ended up going out a lot which cost a fortune. The 2nd week we ended up buying wine from a local shop at 3 euro (Matius) which my wife and her mother liked. My father-in-law picked up a box of box for 19 euro (24) and I got Strongbow for a euro a tin. Better than drinking nothing. Facilities. Nothing was opened and we werent advised of this before going. Tui said in their email that if they cant offer you what youve paid for then they wont send you ? Just checked the TUI page and it still states 3 a-la-carte resteraunts, gym, swim up bar, disco, 4 outdoor pools, Newsagent etc. Must have missed these. There are lots of broken tiles around this hotel. Given how one side of the hotel is closed why are they not renovating the hotel. Guests were all good, first week had a lot of british and 2nd week was mostly germans and dutch as England went on a lockdown. And one of my biggest hates which Ive never experienced for years was Wi-Fi is only available in public areas. Thats main reception area and the area close. Also you get 2 logins. Ive never been to a hotel in years that didnt have wi-fi in the room and limits you to logins. Hand sanitizers also ran out often. So my impressions, this was supposed to be a 4 star RUI hotel and classed as Platinum by TUI. Shame on Tui and Rui for not providing what we paid for. I know its a difficult time if nothing is open then give people a heads up or offer to change would have been good. Especially as Tui already cancelled our Edinburgh flights and forced us to goto Glasgow at cost to us. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We arrived at the hotel in 10 mins. The WHOLE of our bus checked in, it took about an hour. There were another 3 or 4 buses turn up , so we didn’t get a room for about 4 hours. Our room was on the end of the block with a view of the basketball court. We were often visited by parrots on the cadge for crisps! Clean and tidy and kept clean and tidy, with a tv, aircon and safe. Bathroom had usual toiletries and a hairdryer. There was only the buffet restaurant open, the specialist ones closed. My husband is a fuss pot and even he found something to eat, you’ll not go hungry! The swim up bar pool we never found but that was closed too. Be up VERY early if you want a sunny spot by the pool, they were all gone by 7am! Whoever tidied up round the pool on a night did it well, but the early morning sunbed towellers ruined it as usual. I developed an all over rash and eyes and lips swelling up on our first morning here which never left. After several trips to several chemists for creams and tablets and after trying to work out what it was, food allergy, new mascara, sun cream, the only thing I ( and the pharmacist) could suggest, was a reaction to the hotels washing powder. I asked at reception to see if I could get just 2 sheets washed non bio ( long shot, I know). Rens in reception said he’d do his best and let me know. I never heard anything back, so I was miserable and itchy for 2weeks. I’ve had 3 holidays abroad prior to this one, so I was really stumped as to the cause! Over the road is the beach. Spotless clean and lovely and quiet. €12 for 2 beds and a brolly. Was the same price we paid in March. Worth it for the P&Q and not been rammed in like sardines. The daytime activity was the usual, archery, darts, ping pong, aqua fit, bingo etc. The night time consisted of singers, all pretty good actually. Out the hotel and left is a 10 min walk into PDC. Out and left is the spar, pharmacy etc, 2 min walk. Masks are mandatory and there are police EVERYWHERE! Masks to be worn everywhere in the hotel, even from your sunbed at the pool , to the bar. Smokers aren’t gonna be happy! The only place to smoke is out the front of the hotel and out the back. Dont even think about smoking and walking on the streets. We saw a group of lads get stopped by the police on several occasions. The staff here are lovely! Everyone is soooo hard working and friendly and the place is spotless! Ive said it before and I’ll say it again, a hotel is only as good as it’s staff and they really are quite brilliant! Tomas, Francis ( with an i) Denz at the bar, had my drinks made before I got to the bar! Guapo 😍. Keep up the hard work in these crazy times you lovely lovely people and stay safe. Hasta el año que viene Xx TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Went in July all measures were in place for COVID.Didn’t feel stressed at all temperatures were taken going for meals.Masks worn when approaching food or drink.Staff cleaned and sterilised everything but did it unobtrusively not making you feel it was an annoyance.Food, drink and staff were excellent ,rooms kept clean and towels changed anytime you wanted.Have booked Rui Papayas for Feb in Gran Canaria will be happy if it’s anything like the quality, cleanliness and service of this. Last minute rush to the sun

Booked on the Tuesday arrived on the Thursday TUI rep for booking was excellent. Pleasantly surprised on arrival transfer was 15 unfortunately the book in took about an hour with only one person behind the reception desk. Once booked in room and facilities very good photos do not do it justice. Unfortunately due to Covid 19 resort not fully operational but staff did their best to make our holiday as enjoyable as possible and the sun did the rest. All in all would definitely return in the future hopefully to a fully operation resort. Thank you 😊 TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Good and Bad

So I stayed in this hotel from 21st October - 27th October and then the 2nd - 8th November. The first visit the meals was in a small a la carte restaurant which I was a bit shocked by because yes there was less guests but why would you want to cram them all in a smaller restaurant instead of using the large restaurant? The WIFI in this hotel is also unbelievable it only works in the common areas and if your lucky on your balcony but not inside your room. The second visit they was using the larger restaurant. I also dont understand why they only have 1 pool in operation, This is my third RIU hotel this year and every other hotel had all pools open to spread the guests around and to abide by the distance required, of course the first time there was plenty of space but on the second visit they just crammed more sunbeds in around the pool and not to mention everyone reserved sunbed by 8am and no staff did anything about this even though its RIU policy to not reserve sunbeds. The food is normal RIU style so no real complaints here, however for my second visit the Spa was open, well if you would really call it a spa, its very old, not welcoming and needs a good renovation however the lady that did my booked treatments was amazing at her job and the treatments. Overall I liked the hotel due to the staff, they are all really friendly, give amazing service and never stop cleaning areas they truly deliver the RIU service you expect but felt very let down on the management of restaurants on my first visit and then for the second visit the second pool not being open and all the sunbeds crammed in around the pool, it seems the management are trying to keep costs down but this is going to reflect in their customer reviews and satisfaction. On my last night I witnessed something that I did not think met Covid regulations and spoke the a manager but my worries/ issues seem to have been brushed under the carpet as I have heard nothing further about my complaint.
