Good value and close enough to Mt Rusmore
Nov 18th, 2020
Used this place as our opening night to visit. Rushmore and Crazy Horse. 20-30 min away from these close and convenient. Nice lobby. Hotel clean, staff friendly, and room fine. Great sleep there. Breakfast area was open during covid but no hot breakfast foods available. Did have a few microwaveable breakfast burritos, which we ate. Choice hotel 20% off for members made this place a great value and low cost option! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

All of the people at the front Desk were great! Our daughter had Oral surgery and they so very wonderful about getting her extra blankets. The room was really nice and clean. the breakfast that they could offer due to Covid was great! so very impressed with Comfort Inn and Suites they went above and beyond to make sure their guests were taken care of. Almost a disaster but it worked out

Booked a room thru Choice Hotels website. Arrived at the hotel to find the room I booked was not available and they had assigned me to a lesser room. Normally not too big of a deal but I booked a room with a kitchenette due to Covid-19. Ugh..... Totally unacceptable dropping the ball on that one. They were able to get me into the room category I booked the following night and provided a discounted rate for the trouble. So it worked out eventually but I wasn't very happy with the error. Executive suite room with kitchenette has a small sink, full sized refrigerator w/ ice maker, full sized stove/oven, & basic kitchen equipment. No dish soap or other consumables are provided. Huge room w/ a whirlpool tub & walk in shower. A/C was kinda noisy but not too bad for me. If room noise is a problem for you then avoid this one. Good sized parking lot handled several trailers no problem. My main complaint was the wi-fi sucked and was basically un-useable. I called the front desk 1 time about it and was told there were no complaints about the wi-fi and I could stop up to the front desk for assistance in connecting. I'm pretty tech savvy and it wasn't a connection problem on my end. Connection kept dropping and super slow. Might have been my location in the building. But for whatever reason, it didn't work. TV has easy to access HDMI for hooking up streaming or game system. Again, refer to wi-fi problem. They have guest laundry, pool, exercise room, breakfast. I didn't use any of them due to Covid-19 issues so I can't give them a rating. Booking mess ups happen. With that said, I'd stay again for kitchenette room and parking lot. It's on the south end of town obviously. Traffic wasn't an issue getting in and out. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

The reason I started off with location is because we have vacationed in the Black Hills four times now in the last three years - and are in love with it! Can not stand the hustle and bustle of cities, and South Dakota still feels small town, even in Rapid City. We usually stay in Hill City so we are near Mt Rushmore attractions, Needles Highway and Custer State Park, Mammoth Site at Hot Springs, and the ATV trails of the central Black Hills. But this time we decided to opt for a more competitively priced room at Rapid City. The Comfort Inn on Fairmont Blvd is super conveniently placed...maybe two minutes off I90 and two minutes to head south on hwy 16. I always thought it seemed like quite a drive from Rapid City to the Hill City area, but I think maybe that was the the anxiety of getting there in me. If you have a family there are lots of entertainment (and fast food) options available in Rapid City. (You won’t find fast food in the small towns.) We were there to ride the ATV trails and they are all over the place, so we found some close to us from R.C. We were pulling a trailer in tow and there was plenty of parking so that we were able to park without anyone around us. And more felt the same, there was a bus, other trailers, and motorcycles who wanted to stay away from others all enjoying the space. The price was great and the hotel was pretty good - especially for the price. The pool area, whirlpool and sauna area were completely clean with no steamed up windows or heavy air and had a nice quiet, private patio area outside right off the pool. We have been in hotels since COVID-19 hit and they all struggle with dealing with it. Happily, Comfort Inn still had a nice breakfast selection and not breakfast in a bag. There was a nice selection of rolls, muffins, toast, cereal, fruit, yogurt, milk, juice, hard boiled eggs, and the coffee - which I think was also always on. I’m sure I’ve left something off the list - sorry. But one nice feature was the lemon water on ice in the lobby and the occasional warm cookies. Ummmm. The room was very nice. Quiet and modern. Good bed, pillows, and linens. Only thing - I wish the management would read - the bathroom needs a towel rack, better lighting, and exhaust. Also, for food options, there is a Ruby Tuesday’s right out front, a Culver's and Sonic just one to four (?) away. A gas station right there, and the Quality Inn is also just a block or two away. And I’m pretty sure there is a Walmart just south and east a little ways away. (Probably not relevant for you phone-savvy people.) And I guess I already addressed price. Good hotel for the price. And a shout out to Amanda (?) at the front desk for being so helpful! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Very well-kept clean hotel. Beds were reasonably comfortable. For a reduced breakfast during Covid it was the best we had on our vacation. 90% of the staff was wonderful. One front desk employee felt the need to complain to everyone she saw and give her political opinions. She was also extremely rude to my kids. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
