Great hotel

The Conservatorium is a great hotel in a terrific location. Staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Breakfast was fabulous and beautiful. We had a great time. Highly recommended. Both couples enjoyed the open space and the lounge. We were there during Pride week and one evening we found a beautiful replica of the hotel in chocolate. The chocolate was even in the colors of Pride week. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Stay Away from The Conservatorium Hotel

The Conservatorium is rotten inside! When I learned that my wife decided to stay at the Conservatorium, I was rather please as it described itself as a leading hotel of the world. Upon arriving, the sight was quite impressive but that as it turned out was the only good thing about it. The staff were just so-so and seems to be full of themselves. They all seem to talk a lot but one can tell that the passion does not run deep. In every great building whether offices or residences or hotels there is a balance between Form and Function. The Conservatorium has Forms but almost zero Function. Starting with the entrance to the rooms. The floor is at least 20cm elevated which is not a good things especially for older peopler like us. Then inside the room is where all the craziness starts: 1) the loft was a joke - so much wasted space 2) the upstairs bedroom was a tiny Queen size bed when all they had to do was to enlarge the space upstarts to accommodate a king size bed. The price that we had to pay per night certainly deserve a king size bed. 3) the doors to the toilet/bathroom feels like it weighs a ton. It was so heavy and requires some muscles to open it. In fact all the doors were unusually heavy. We have our own home that has massive doors but the doors can easily be balance so that they open easily. 4) the wash basin looks great but takes at least 10 mins to drain so when we brush our teeth or wash our face a cm or 2 of water accumulates and all the dirty water just floated around and of course stayed behind after the water drained and so we had to once again run the tap water to wash off the dirt and then the cycle starts again. What a joke! 5) the downstairs sofa which is presented also as a single bed is exactly 1.5m long, so unless the hotel was planning to rent only to dwarfs, this 1.5m length does not work! It is even too short for a teenager. 6) we thought that the sofa actually would convert into a sofa bed so we called for housekeeping. Some one came just when we were getting ready to leave and we asked him to return 5 mins later and his reply was "if you don't let me fix your bed now I will not have anytime later to do so" is a rude voice. This really shocked us as the reply was totally unexpected from such a high class hotel. I had to asked the housekeeper to repeat himself at which point he backed off somewhat. In order not to caused the housekeeper any problems we let him in right away. He walked in, took one look at the sofa and told us again in a rude voice that the bed is what it is and if we feel that it is too short, then we should complaint to the reception and he left. 7) the door to the mini fridge opens to theft but the mini fridge door opens to the right - extremely counter intuitive. 8) the downstairs shower has two rainshower head but the taps is located inside the shower area to the left and once has to go inside in order to turn on the rainshower, however the taps were totally counter intuitive. One would expect that the further inside tap would operate the left shower head however it was the other way round and so I was shocked with freezing cold water shower when turning on the rain shower. I don't even know how to describe the problem. 9) the shampoo and shower gel bottle had prints that needed a magnifying glass to tell them apart. In such a hotel at such a high price points, I expect the majority of guest are older people and so all of us older people suffers from the same presbyopic problem. The shampoo and shower gel bottles must have been designed by a young person! The conditioner bottle is okay as the gel is opaque in color. 10) the list goes on. All in all, the architecture of The Conservatorium Hotel did a very poor job. We will not be returning and we will tell all our friends and family to avoid The Conservatorium Hotel. In our opinion the first person that should be fired is the General Manager because many of the problems can be fixed and from what we have read in all the terrible reviews (after we got home), comes down to the General Manager being unable or unwilling to fix the problems but instead offering lip-service excuses. Amsterdam is a lovely city and it does not deserve The Conservatorium Hotel to be there. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I am a huge fan of hotels and i just want to say, that this is one of the most extraordinary, beautiful and amazing hotels i have ever been. The design, amenities and everything else is top notch, so no need to talk about it. The most important is the people that work here. Each of them is a real Person with a big heart. I d like to thank everyone who worked with us, especially Marie-Claire Jansen and Michelle Bullens. Thank you for the fairytale! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Amazing place to stay

We stayed at The Conservatorium in July. The location is ideal, the area is quiet but very close from the city centre and very well linked. It seems like the ideal place either for families, couples or to travel with friends. The service was incredible and the staff very friendly. We had the chance to meet the hotel manager and she was very friendly and helpful with all our queries. The people at the concierge did everything they could to make us feel at home and help us enjoy our stay in Amsterdam. I would definitely go back to this hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Amazing experience

Without a doubt one of the best hotel experiences! Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the staff and general manager, we were asked for our names at the door and information was given on how to get to the reception. The staff was extremely friendly, Natalie who was looking after us was very helpful and we found familiar ground when she said she lived in the area we were from. The hotel has a beautiful Asian restaurant, nice in house bar and great brasserie with the most delicious breakfast! There is a concierge desk and everyone is so helpful. They will sort out everything for you. Etan, the Host Assistant Manager was very entertaining while looking for museum tickets for us. It seemed that nothing is impossible for them. The interior was amazing. The hotel is where history meets presence. You have the old brick walls of what it used to be a bank combined with modern design inside the building. Because of the big glass high ceiling windows the lobby is very bright and spacious. Note, this is a 5 star hotel and the atmosphere is so special that it really felt like home to me. All respect for the staff who does a great job here; a true sample of excellent hospitality. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
