Overnight - pre cruise stay

Mar 10th, 2020

This room was clean and very basic. Air conditioning worked really well. Walking distance to beaches, restaurants and CVS. Bathroom was tiny and water leaked somewhat on floor. Could hear alot of activity around this hotel - sounded like a karaoke bar and air port traffic overhead. We were on second floor. We just needed a place to stay overnight ahead of our cruise. The restaurant up from the motel (not the Denny's) that sells gelato also has an excellent breakfast - their coffee is fantastic. Elevator was tiny - choose first floor if you have difficulty with stairs. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

musty outdated rooms....great location

Feb 19th, 2020

the room was musty and outdated. The hot water never came so took luke warm shower. The hotel is in a great location. There is a fridge in the room. If you don't want to go far, you have two restaurant options. Platos is great for lunch or dinner. The other one is better for breakfast. You get 10% discount with room card. The service was excellent. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

AMEX recommends?

Feb 16th, 2020

We were looking for an inexpensive hotel close to the airport when our connecting flight from San Juan was changed. Coral by the Sea was close to the airport and we could pay for our room using AMEX points. A win-win. We arrived close to midnight. We were greeted by a friendly desk clerk and two small boys who were sitting under a table in the lobby playing a loud video game and wrestling. I think they were under the table plugged into an electrical outlet! My first thought was get some headphones, my second was GET to bed! The elevator was working although it looked it had seen its better days. I was worried that if we were stuck in it we would never be found. Our room was highlighted by orange velour blankets and the buzz of an overworked air conditioner. There was no dead bolt lock. I peeked behind the shower curtain certain I’d find a body — I didn’t but I quickly decided that I would sleep in my clothes and hide between the (hopefully) clean sheets. The towels and the toilet paper were like sand paper. There were no hand towels to be found. The ceiling tiles were stained and looked in desperate need of replacement. I had read reviews of this motel to my husband prior to our arrival — he assured me that people are way too picky on Trip Advisor. No way. This is NOT a boutique hotel of any sort. I have stayed in nicer youth hostels. Coral by the Sea made the Bates Motel look like a Ritz Carlton. I should also mention when I woke this morning the clothes I had carefully laid out on top of my bag were soaking wet. A ceiling leak? Who knows. We ran out of this hotel shortly after sunrise never to return. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

"Perfect Stay at a Great Price!"

Jan 6th, 2020

Came down for a cruise and stayed one night prior. This is a great hotel in a great location for a great price. Close to the airport and Old Town San Juan. Staff was great and friendly! Water could be a little hotter in the Shower and hot tub but we loved our stay. Walking distance to a great beach! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
