CN was a step up from CSA

Jun 1st, 2020

My husband and I visited for a week in June 2019 to celebrate our anniversary. We stayed at Couples Swept Away the year prior and loved what Couples Resorts had to offer but decided we would not return to that particular resort. BEACH: The beach at CSA was beautiful but way too loud and just not relaxing. The vendors were nonstop ALL DAY LONG (the reason we would not return)! Couples Negril had vendors walking the beach but not nearly as many and it was much quieter. The beach was beautiful with white sand, calm water and plenty of beach chairs no matter what time you came out. There is also an AN beach that is near building 9 and is separated by trees/shrubs. TRANSPORTATION: The shuttle from the airport is free and about an hour and 1/2 drive. Luckily, the other guests were just as anxious as us to get to the resort and we didn't make any stops. If you prefer private transportation I would recommend booking Ashton Pitt, he was affordable, knowledgable and made delicious rum punches (ashtonacetourjamaica.com). ROOM: We booked a Deluxe Garden room and were given room 1305 (3rd floor) in building 1. We had a beautiful view of the lush landscaping and it felt like we were in the rainforest when it rained each afternoon. Our room was spotless and cleaned daily at around the same time. Building 1 was close to the beach/restaurants and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this building or building 6 for the same reasons. We were already signed up for Romance Rewards on the Couple's Website and were able to complete the check-in process before arriving. I highly recommend doing this as you can submit your mini bar preferences in advance. The room was one area we preferred CSA over CN because the verandahs were much more spacious and comfortable (we had booked a comparable room category at CSA). My husband and I still talk about how much we loved the sounds of the tree frogs at night at both resorts, they were so soothing. FOOD & DRINKS: The food was good across the board but CN needs to offer the fish tacos available at CSA. They were so delicious and we were disappointed that they were not available at CN. The chicken patties were a favorite of ours and available at the Beach Grill for lunch. Our favorite restaurant was Heliconia but Otaheite was a great restaurant option if you are celebrating a special occasion and prefer a more formal setting (men are required to wear slacks/dress jeans and closed-toe shoes/closed-toe sandals and a reservation is required). Oh and don't forget to order a dirty banana cocktail at some point during your trip..so good!! Drinks had a good amount of alcohol and there was a wide variety of choices. CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS: We brought glass Christmas ornaments to get painted by one of the vendors at CN. Paul Thomas painted our ornaments as well as a magnet and did an amazing job!! I believe he has his table set up on the beach on Wednesday and Fridays. I am including photos of Paul Thomas and his beautiful work. ACTIVITIES: One of the reasons we love Couples is the free water sports and activities. You can go snorkeling, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding or book the sunset catamaran cruise (just to name a few). There are also photographers walking around and taking photos on the beach and at the restaurants (Jason was so much fun!). I would definitely stop by the photo studio and check out your photos before you leave, we purchased a few!! We really enjoyed our stay and only have one recommendation for the resort: please have more beach towels available, some days they would run out by 10AM and you were stuck waiting. There were also a few people who made our trip extra special Jovan (Haliciona Grill), Ivylin (pool bar, she was working so hard!!), Kerry Ann (clothing boutique), Monique (Lychee) and Morris (at the bar at Cassava Terrace and on the beach). We have visited a few islands and resorts but feel that Couples offers the best all around value. We plan on visiting Couples Negril again in the near future and hope you do the same!! Ultimate relaxation

Can’t say enough about this resort. Easy check-in/check-out, clean rooms, veeeeery comfortable beds and A/C, pretty garden view from our deck, attentive staff, wonderful service, great food and drinks, gorgeous grounds, nice variety of watersports (included), beautiful beach minus the foot traffic and numerous vendors of the 7-mile beach. Just loved the classy 2-man violin/classical guitar duo during breakfast and the fantastic house band followed by guest performers after dinner. It was very convenient to have the stage next to the buffet seating. We could enjoy non-stop entertainment all evening from our dinner seat. Our only issues … this is a relatively small property and beachfront so may not suit you if you enjoy exploring new spaces or taking very long walks. This resort seems to attract a generally older crowd so the late-night activities are limited. We were a bit disappointed with the piano bar which was the main attraction during the evening. We usually love the atmosphere of piano bars and just chilling while listen to a great performer however the main themes at this one were “sing-along” and “dance party”. Would we return? Absolutely! This is not the romantic vacation destination the guides want you to believe. One thing to know before you book - the average age of the majority of the guests is late 50-70. Things this resort does well - hot water, friendly staff, daily adult drink, plenty of restrooms, plenty of drinking water stations, the glass bottom boat ride. Things that need improvement - the drink flags (great concept but it doesn't work when there are not enough flags and the staff doesn't check them), entertainment (one night, Tuesday, had great entertainment, that was the only night the rest of the evenings it was lacking) food (they had a variety of options but times they were open was very limited), bars (several options but again the times they were open were very limited), water sports (free sounds great but they are very weather dependent), there are no clocks anywhere so it's hard to be able to attend the "activities", DO NOT TAKE THE SHOPPING TRIP (it's a broken down mall with 15 souvenir shops all selling the exact same thing). Tips - Bring 2 reusable glasses (one for adult drinks, one for water), pay attention to the activities schedule when booking. Note this is not a private beach so there are constantly people trying to sell you goods and services. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Mixed Feelings...

Mar 31st, 2020

Though I have mixed feelings about our stay here, to write a fair review I will start by saying that Couples Negril technically deserves its 4.5*rating based solely based on on the lovely rooms, beautiful grounds, great beach, and food quality. However, considering Jamaica is probably one of the most exciting & vibrant places on earth - to say the vibe of this hotel is dry is an understatement. We are a young couple in our 30s from London. Beguiled by the young & happy looking models frolicking in the sea on their website, we thought this would be a good place to chill out and enjoy the last 5 nights to our 2 week trip on the island before going home. Boy. were we wrong. The vibe? Think, retirement home in Florida ( and that might be a bit of an insult to retirement homes in Florida) This gorgeous hotel lacks character and ultimately feels un-Jamaican which is a shame! So much potential!! Please do something to captivate a younger guest NOW or else you may find yourselves struggling for business in years to come... TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
