Not really downtown

Feb 1st, 2020

Hotel was located just off I85 but a couple of miles from downtown. Check in was fine and the receptionist was very nice. Room was comfortable and quiet and everything worked. Other than the Bistro in the hotel there were limited choices within walking distance for dinner. We opted for El Corral across the parking lot and it was fine and inexpensive. Checkout was easy too so overall a good overnight stay on our road trip. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Decent and good location

Jan 6th, 2020

Staff is friendly hotel is standard for a courtyard. Only giving it a 3 due to hotel needing some updates and renovation which appear to be under way. Hotel is clean - however water stains on ceilings and old tiny bathroom features - guessing with the work going on they are updating. I would stay here again just not the best of what Courtyard has to offer. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Once I "figured out" the subtle HVAC thermostat, I was o.k. for the NEXT night...

Dec 29th, 2019

My wife & I booked a two-night stay here while visiting family in the area. The hotel, just off I-85, was not at all noisy, at least for our room facing into the "Courtyard." The hotel has a number of good points going for it... - I suppose the foremost positive point was the fact that (in a courtyard-facing room) there is a full-size sliding "patio" door with a screen door, so one can have fresh air ventilation. What's more, there is a small/narrow (not quite 36" wide) "patio" with two patio chairs and a small table. So one can sit out in the night air if desired. The sliding door has a burglar-bar for security if one is concerned about that. - The 9-foot wide furniture configuration of desk and chest of drawers cabinet allowed for plenty of "stuff shuffling" room... although the TV platform was plunked onto the cabinet top, not hung on the wall as I prefer in many hotels where I've lodged. - I liked the 3.5-foot-wide rolling table that could be used for added desk space... or for shuffling "stuff" or parking luggage. - The shower and toilet are in a separate small room, separate from vanity sink area. - That bathroom has a strong exhaust fan controlled by the fan/light switch. - I could see from our room that in the courtyard, there was a fire pit with eleven sturdy patio chairs surrounding the pit... making for a nice gathering place outside in good weather. The Lobby is nice with some comfortable seating, and the Bar/Bar Food service available is handy if one is so disposed. (But it was oh so sad to see two lodgers sitting at the bar in the evening of... Christmas Eve.) O.K., those were the good points. Now for the negatives that this fussy lodger "endured"... - The bathroom vanity sink area was quite narrow as compared to many hotels I've visited. It was just about 40 inches wide... sink AND "side" areas where to place your bathroom "stuff." - The room's closet was directly opposite that narrow vanity sink area. In the case of a single lodger, that would be no problem. But on more than one occasion my wife & I "danced the tangled tango" when one went to access the closet while the other was using the sink. - BUT... BY FAR... the most negative aspect to our room was the HVAC thermostat. It was a relative warm night out for Christmas-time, and we wanted to turn OFF the Heat/and/AC and just let some fresh air flow in from the patio door. I switched "OFF" the wall thermostat unit for Heat/AC, but the fan just kept on running at the Low setting. (The HVAC unit by the window was operation-locked for deference to the wall thermostat.) I called the front desk before retiring for the evening and lodged our concern. A housekeeper came by, looked at the thermostat, and said she couldn't do anything, and that "maintenance" was gone for the evening, but she would report it for them to look at the next day. So... I grumpily went to sleep listening to the doggoned HVAC fan RUN ALL NIGHT. After our next day's outing with family members, my wife & I returned tired to the room... wondering if the HVAC fan would be running ALL NIGHT again. Nope! It was off... and my wife pointed out that someone had moved the Low/High fan setting... to the MIDDLE. Well, DUH! I hadn't thought to try THAT. There was NO "mark" or indicator showing a "middle" setting for "FAN - OFF." I've posted a photo where I've red-arrowed the middle spot; i.e. there was no such mark on the thermostat. So... a "lesson learned" for this traveler! Next time I'll do more to "play around" with the wall thermostat. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Quick stop for some sleep

Dec 1st, 2019

This is an older hotel that is in decent shape. We arrived at 10pm and only stayed long enough to sleep and shower, before hitting the road again. There is not a mobile key option at this hotel, nor is there a continental breakfast available. There is a cafe that serves Starbucks coffee and some breakfast items, however. We will stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

This hotel is not competitive--heard every word in the next room

Nov 10th, 2019

Old rooms, the wrong furniture, bathtub is old-style (it's curved, so you can't put both feet down level while showering, very dangerous); toilet has issues--about 3 inch gap from toilet seat to water--you figure it out; no microwave, fridge is small and not anchored. Overpriced Starbucks--ordered two coffees and an overpriced omelette--took 15 minutes for them to cook it in the back--came with some lettuce. (?) Coffee was cold by the time I got it back to the room. Turns out there was complimentary coffee in the lobby, but they didn't mention that! Bad surrounding neighborbood with some poor restaurant choices and one overpriced Greek restaurant. The worst was there was a door between our room and the one next to us, so conceivable both doors could be open for families/friends. With no sound insulation, we could hear every word in the next room. The people in the next room were loud and arguing with each other. Service and atttitude is slow and slow--even for the South.
