Meh...turned off

Jul 17th, 2019

Staff is super friendly and always smiling so very approachable and very helpful. Location is great in terms of accessibility. Lots of places to eat within walking distance. Metro within walking distance as well. They pay attention. My father’s car was parking the lot and they called us up to notify us we’d got a flat tire. There are not microwaves in the rooms but one is available downstairs for guests to use. All rooms have mini fridges. Didn’t have housekeeping but ours still asked us if we needed anything the times we saw her in the hallway. They disappointed me where the pool was concerned. There is a heated non chlorine pool (I think salt water) BUT we didn’t get a chance to enjoy it. It’s opened at 5am-11pm usually. We had planned to use it each day and my 5 yr old was so eager but poor kid was disappointed. There was a kids soccer team there. The first night they closed it early because one of the soccer kids threw up in the pool so no access until the next day after 12pm. Ok it happens, no big deal. But the next day we went down approximately at 6pm and the soccer kids were there which was fine. But what annoyed me is the entitlement by the parents and the kids. I’ve noticed this with hockey teams as well. (Used to work at a restaurant and they would let their kids run around and be loud where other diners were trying to enjoy their meals.) I think when there are kid teams like this the hotel should book off a 2 hr block for them to use the pool so every other guests can get a chance to enjoy it. We are all paying. My kid is 5 so he’s still learning the ways of the water and as the kid splashed widely and took over the shallow side of the pool (my kid felt intimidated by them) the parents did not even have the common courtesy to remind their kids to watch out for the little one. It’s like they owned the damn pool. These people weren’t even supervising their kids. In fact I was hanging onto the side of the pool and this kid is shooting his water gun so close to my face that the water kept hitting me and his entitlement dad just let him be. It was annoying that right in front of his dad I had to tell the kid to be careful. Only then did his dad mutter something to the kid. Then finally my kid and I find a spot in the shallow end and another kid unsupervised jumps in right beside him splashing a ton of water in his face. He starts gasping and coughing bc it went into his nose and mouth. Thank God he was okay but I had to watch him for the next few days in case of dry drowning. Why? Because he threw up a few hours later and had a mild rise in his temperature. Will I stay here again? Meh I’m a little put off by this experience. The hotel has no control over people’s inconsiderate behaviours but here’s what they could do to help: There should be a lifeguard there to assist or that kid teams should have their own block of time so other guests can access the pool. Excellent location for visiting Ottawa

Jul 10th, 2019

Me and my family just had a recent stay over Canada Day; stayed three nights. The location of the hotel is excellent, being in the Byward Market area, and many attractions within a 10 minute walk. A big draw was that it's a Category 3, and we used points, which didn't dent us too badly. In the past we have stayed at the Courtyard Ottawa East, which is a nicer hotel, but the same amount of points, but requires either taking a bus downtown, or driving and parking. The plus of Ottawa East is that it has free onsite parking, and the Downtown Courtyard charges for parking. I did not use much of the facilities; my son used the gym, and my wife the pool. The hotel itself is a bit older, but the rooms were clean, as was the over hotel. The staff was very friendly, and gave us some dining coupons for 15% off at some area restaurants. As I mentioned, the best asset of the Courtyard Downtown is location. The mall is maybe 5 minute walk, a block away and you are in the middle of the Byward Market. I would definitely stay here again, mainly for affordability, and location. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

One night stay for 2 days in the city

Jul 7th, 2019

Easy to book via Expedia, arrived in the morning into the city then later moved car over to here, a bit tight in the entrance but got directed by a valet. Booked in then moved car underground parking. Room easy to find, twin beds, clean with air con, bed comfortable, could have had breakfast if wanted but went into the Byward mkt instead, checking out was easy enough, gave us a card fir barrier and was good until 2pm, left before then anyways TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Clean, with a good Bistro

Jul 1st, 2019

I always stay here when in Ottawa overnight. Great beds, good linens, and friendly competent staff. I love the Bistro for an after dinner glass of wine but this time they stopped serving peanuts or potato chips with a drink. Really? TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Poor hotel and service!

Jun 18th, 2019

Im a marriott gold member and by far this was my worst marriott hotel experience ever! I have stayed at numerous bonvoy brands, this being the worst ever! I requested two separate occasions for a hair comb thru the app and it was never delivered nor has anyone contacted me about it! Finally when i sent them a chat request they simply apologized without delivering the comb! I finally requested a hair comb from the front desk myself! The hotel location is good, lots of restaurants and bars around! The black out curtains inside the room are very poor, they let so much light in the morning, that i needed to use eye shades to sleep in! The beds were comfortable however and the rooms are big and spacey! The hallways are a bit dated but nothing horrible! The swimming pool area was very nice so is the bistro! The service the staff provides here is very poor and I'm thinking to switch over to Hilton brand! Horrible experience! Will not stay here again! Im losing faith in Marriott bonvoy after this experience TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
