Doing everything right

Oct 23rd, 2020

We stayed for one night and had a very comfortable stay. We requested a room on the first floor and were place there; it was very quiet. The windows even open to let in some fresh fall mountain air in the morning. The restaurant was open with limited service so we could get breakfast. We even noticed the pool was open by reservation (kids were in there Fri night). We are never sure what to expect in the time of COVID-19 but the Courtyard delivered. They provided everything we expect, including the bar at night, along with all the necessary safety precautions. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Very Nice Hotel

Sep 1st, 2020

This hotel was exactly what we expected and more. We were only there for one night, but had a good night rest. Don't let the name fool you, yes its near the airport, but we never saw a plane in the air while we were in town. It a very neathotel, and looks like its on the newer side. We would definetly stay again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

I had a good stay. Unfortunately, their restaurant was not open, not even for take-out. When checking in, they asked too much information, such as what company I worked for and why I was staying there. I guess because of COVID, local residents of Roanoke are not able to stay there. Stayed one night

Mar 7th, 2020

Stayed one Friday evening in a room on the 4th floor with 2 queen beds. The shower got hot quickly and the towels were quite plush which was a nice surprise. Our room overlooked the courtyard fire pit. It was way too cold to sit outside however. There was a nice fireplace inside that we sat by enjoying our coffee in the morning Our breakfast was included in the cost of the room and it was delicious. All staff were super friendly and very informative helping us choose a restaurant downtown for dinner. The workout room is really nothing; however I belong to planet fitness so I drove there in the morning. I would definitely stay here again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Hockey Weekend Hospitality

Feb 7th, 2020

We stayed for 2 nights on a fun hockey weekend trip to Roanoke, 1/31 - 2/2. Our party consisted of 2 adults (one who is in a wheelchair) and 1 teen. Reservation was booked through Marriott as a rewards member. I called the day before arrival to confirm my reservation and found that there was a discrepancy with the information given by the Marriott reservations rep. It was too late to change my reservation or book at another hotel, so I was worried. Susan kindly and generously resolved the issue and saved our weekend, for which I will be forever grateful! I was impressed with her excellent customer service. I was so happy to get to meet her in person and give her a hug. If only we could clone Susan and put one of her in every hotel! This hotel is convenient to area attractions. We were guests of the VA Tech Hockey team and found Lancerlot Sports Complex to be an easy drive from Courtyard. We spent a fun Saturday afternoon at Center in the Square in downtown Roanoke, then attended a hockey game at Berglund Center, both of which are a quick, easy drive from the hotel. Check-in was easy and quick with the sweetest young desk clerk who made us feel so welcome. The lobby was open, modern, and clean. The hot chocolate bar was an inviting treat on a chilly, drizzly evening. Delicious fruit infused water was available at all times. Breakfast is not included at this hotel, but can be purchased at the little cafe/snack bar located in the lobby. The ADA accessible room was spacious and impeccably clean. Again, Courtyard gets it right when it comes to accessibility by not crowding the room with furniture and allowing ample space for maneuvering with a wheelchair. Standard amenities include a tv, mini fridge and coffee pot. There is no microwave. The clothes bar in the closet was not lowered for a wheelchair user to reach. We recently stayed in a Courtyard that did have a lower bar, so this particular room may just need some updating. The bathroom was on the small side for an accessible bathroom, but still had enough room for a wheelchair to turn. Getting to the sink was a tight squeeze, but was possible with the door closed. The roll in shower was small, also ... a regular sized shower equipped with a ramp. Very difficult for a wheelchair user to transfer in this shower. Impossible without help. Thank you, Courtyard, for putting the shower controls next to the fold-down shower seat! If an update is in the future, we suggest putting the shampoo close to the shower seat, as well. The bed was comfortable with soft, clean linens. This trip was a much-needed break after a hectic few months for me and I got 2 awesome nights of sleep. I woke rested and relaxed for the first time in months! This was due, in part, to the comfy bed and linens, but also due to the fact that this is the quietest hotel room we have ever slept in. We heard very little outside noise and heard no noise above us. On a negative note, the bed is very high. The high bed platforms are a nice trend, but they are troublesome for handicapped folks, as it is difficult to transfer to the bed from a wheelchair. My daughter and I were able to help lift my beau into the bed. However, had he been travelling alone, he would not have been able to transfer independently and couldn't stay at this hotel. This problem is not exclusive to Courtyard hotels or to Marriott, but is industry wide. It is something we hope will be changed in the future. Ideally, an ADA accessible bed should be 20 - 24 inches in height. Checkout was quick and easy, and we love the 12:00 checkout time. The checkout clerk on Sunday 2/2 (an older woman), however, we weren't so fond of. She was curt and not very friendly both to us and to another Marriott rewards member who was inquiring about room availability. This just didn't fit with the other happy, friendly staff we encountered. We chalked it up to someone having a bad day. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. The hospitality was excellent! We would definitely stay here again and would happily recommend it to anyone staying in the Roanoke area. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
