Big mistake staying there

Aug 10th, 2020

For starters we ere put in a room that had not been made ready. My husband called the front desk to tell the room clerk the room was not made and she told him to hold on she would find another;!0 minutes plus later no response so I went downstairs where she was selling a drink to someone else with 2 people in line. I told her my husband was waiting, she said she was busy, I guess we were nothing. She started fumbling through pages and pages doing I don't know what and gave us another key without so much as an apology. This after walking through 2 inches of rainwater that was everywhere on the parking deck including the door we had to go through for our room. HOWEVER most disturbing, no sign declaring they were COVID compliant. Seems Hilton knows how to do that but NOT Marriott franchises. Complained to Marriott Bonvoy only to get a phone call from someone who seemed not too upset about the whole thing from the and made an excuse for the hotel clerk and her maintenance people. Thankfully I brought disinfectant and am praying my husband who is still in hospital didn't pick up Covid in the hotel room. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Front desk clerk terrible

Jul 19th, 2020

Stayed here for 1 night on 6/27/2020 and would not stay again. Upon checking in late that afternoon, my son and I made our way to our room and the keys did not work. We thought someone was in the room as we could hear the TV playing loudly through the door. My son went down and told the clerk the key cards did not work and that he thought someone was in the room. The clerk was rude and defensive and activated the cards. The second set worked but when we went into the room, the tv was on, the bed covers not straight and the hand towel in the bathroom had been used. I took photos and We went to show the clerk. His lazy and rude response was unfathomable in this Covid-19 world. He actually argued that towel was just wrinkled. And had the nerve to ask me what he expected him to do??? Unreal. Cleanliness and sanitation were obviously not a priority. We were traveling across the country and stayed in many hotels. Every hotel we stayed at was making great effort to clean and observe proper CDC guidelines but this one. And to top it off, this is ACROSS the street from a hospital! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We love this hotel!

Mar 4th, 2020

We've stayed at this hotel 3 times in recent months and find it a great place to stay! It is well placed across the street from UVA children's hospital, which is why we originally tried it out. But I think I would stay there even if I wasn't taking my kids to UVA to see their doctor. Street level is the best floor for this hotel, as it gives several advantages... you don't have to deal with their crappy elevators and the ground floor of the parking garage is the best. If you have a large vehicle like mine, be sure to swing wide to the left before trying to turn into the parking garage. The right hand turn into the garage is extremely tight and it's easy to not be aligned correctly. The nice thing about parking here is you can leave your car for a few hours even after you check out, so you don't have to try to move it over to the UVA parking garage. Parking fee is $7. That's a good deal. Their Starbuck counter is a delight and is so handy as it's right in the lobby. I have also gotten drinks at the little cafe right next door, but they were very slow, so if you're in a rush, you should probably skip them. The employees at this hotel are top notch. I have spoken with quite a few in my comings and goings and you will not find a more pleasant bunch. They aim to please their guests and it makes for a very lovely atmosphere. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Front desk staff members were very helpful throughout. Great property location, covered parking, very gracious Bistro staff. Very clean rooms and facility. A terrific bargain for the two-night stay. Recommended TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Comfortable and convenient

Feb 17th, 2020

My husband and I spent one Saturday night at this hotel. We often choose Marriott because we are Bonvoy members. This Marriott feels old and historic but maintains the fine Marriott quality that we have come to enjoy. The room was comfortable and well appointed, staff very pleasant, and we loved the Starbucks bistro in the lobby. The waitstaff at the Starbucks were lovely. Parking and breakfast are not complimentary but are very reasonably priced considering this hotel is in the middle of a thriving college city. (We did not hear any student party chatter as noted by another recent reviewer) The location is perfect....close to the Medical Center and a short walk to the Mall and to many fine restaurants and interesting shops.
