Excellent accommodation in the heart of the city.

Aug 16th, 2019

This is our go-to when we want to be in Toronto just because it isn't where we live. No reason for our trip, that is, except to be away. The valet parking is expensive, but includes "in and out" privileges. There is public parking on the other side of Wood St., and we'll likely try that next time we come... and yes, there will be a next time. Our room was bright and cheery, reception was friendly, the Concierge knows his stuff, and there is a pleasant we "bistro" off the lobby. Last time we were there, we weren't thrilled with the bistro, but it has improved noticeably. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Stay Away from Room 212!

Aug 15th, 2019

Our family of 4 stayed here for 3 nights. We were deeply disappointed with the room we received and how we were treated by the front desk staff. I want to provide a balanced review, so here are the pros: - hotel room has been recently updated - quite clean - central location - close to the subway and walkable to Eaton Centre - we stayed during Pride Weekend and I believe the hotel was hosting all the volunteers, so there was a great atmosphere in the hotel Now the cons: - we were in room 212 and we could not sleep the first night - we kept hearing this horrible sound which we figured was the sound of the elevator going up and down. The room was right behind the elevator shaft. - we unintentionally booked the room through a hotel booking service whose website looked like it was the Marriott site. Literally within 5 minutes of booking it, I noticed the error and phoned the hotel directly. I was told by a woman on the phone that our Marriott Bonvoy points would be honoured. Of course, on check-in, we were told the opposite. As loyal SPG and now Bonvoy members, my husband and I were shocked at how we were treated. If we were not given the misinformation on the phone, we would have pursued cancelling our reservation through the third party booker. We always prefer to book directly with a hotel. - following our first night, our room was not serviced - we had to ask for it to be serviced and then we were only given 2 towels when there were 4 of us in the room - also, the toilet paper was not replenished and the soap and conditioner were not refilled in the dispensers - on arrival, the vanity mirror in the bathroom was on the bathroom counter, not the wall - on our second night, management requested to see our wristbands in order to access the elevators. While we understand the security issue with all the volunteers in the hotel, we were NEVER given wristbands at check-in. Yet another mistake by the front desk! We don't intend on staying in this hotel again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Weekend Trip

Aug 14th, 2019

We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel. Staying in a downtown location, we assumed the rooms would be on the small side. We had a 2 queen bed with a pullout sofa bed, and still had plenty of room for a 2 year old to expel energy. We had a room directly across from the elevator, and instead of it being annoying because of additional noise, which we rarely heard, it was nice to be right at our room as soon as the doors opened. The location is super convenient to a lot of restaurants and things to do. I felt the neighborhood was safe, always busy, and for being so busy, still quiet enough not to disrupt any sleep. Yes the valet cost $45/night to park, but you could go in and out, where if you park at the garage across the street, if you leave, you pay again. Also, almost any touristy type city is going to charge for parking, and it will be more pricey than in a smaller market. The orange infused water in the lobby was very refreshing to come back to. Room service was delicious, and faster than what they estimated. The elevators are small, and sort of slow, but we didn't wait more than a few minutes each time. We were in town for a Yankees game which made the hotel very busy, but never frustrating. The Eaton Center was like a 10/15 minute walk straight up Yonge Street. The Rogers Centre/CN Tower/Aquarium is roughly a 40 minute walk ... but we bit the bullet and paid to park downtown because of our toddler and not wanting to bring the stroller into the ballpark. We definitely enjoyed this hotel, and will be back in the future. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not so much like a True Marriott

Aug 13th, 2019

While the COURTYARD TORONTO DOWNTOWN carries the Marriott brand, the Courtyard chain seem to have disassociated from Marriott in some ways, including what we consider to be an important feature of the Marriott chain. THE FREE BREAKFAST! IT DOES NOT EXIST HERE OR APPARENTLY, IN ANY MARRIOTT COURTYARD!!! We were so surprised that we actually called Marriott to double check. Price point, of course, dictates the type of food service--sometimes a small buffet and sometimes a large, beautiful restaurant. Regardless, we can count on something to eat as Platinum Elite card members and this is important to me because of health constraints (diabetes) where I have to eat when I get up in the morning. In addition, the elevators were slow. The neighborhood was questionable--we did not feel threatened, but we did not feel safe. When I checked out, the additional fees, including a tax on a tax added up to nearly $100 extra! Parking was $45 for valet and $20 (I think) for self-parking. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Disappointed

Aug 13th, 2019

Received an e-mail for early check-in and the room was not ready at 2:00 pm when we arrived. Had to wait 15 min to store the luggages because no one was at the desk. We finally got a room at 4:30 pm. We came back at 6:00pm, had to queue again to get the key and the luggages were not even in the room. Not enough staff for the people arriving on a saturday. Plus, we got the room in front of the elevator and it smelled of feet. Also, weird thing: bath and toilets in the bathroom, but sink in a separate room !? The only good thing: good bedding and swimming pool ! Valet parking ONLY, $45 a day. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
