Not terrible, not exceptional

Apr 22nd, 2019

I rated this hotel as average for a number of reasons. CHECK IN : Staff was decent. Not particularly welcoming or friendly, but helpful enough. THE ROOM: I stayed on the 1st floor. It was me and my three young kids. When we first got into the room, it was a little musty smelling. I always do the "Clorox wipe test" on all hotel surfaces to see if they are clean or not (I stay in a lot of hotels for work and I have seen some things!). Unfortunately, this hotel did not pass the test. All of the counters in the bathroom, the bathtub, the desk and the two small tables in the living space were dirty, ranging from slightly to disgusting. The worst was the bathroom sink and the tub, both of which brought up black "crumbs" (not sure how else to describe it). There were also black hairs everywhere, presumably from housekeeping staff but not sure. The tub wouldn't drain at all; within 3 minutes of taking a shower with my youngest, we were ankle deep in dirty water. This is a major pet peeve of mine in hotels. My other two kids couldn't even take showers because of the slow drain. THE BED: I always strip down the bedsprings to check for bugs or stains. The padded mattress cover had a few light stains. The pillows were very lumpy and the bed wasn't very comfortable. THE COUCH: In the living room area, we had a pullout sofa. I wouldn't even let my kids sit on it because there were so many stains underneath the pillows. I was not pleased with this hotel much at all and we ended up leaving that night because my kids were uncomfortable on the bed and it just felt dirty. The decor of the outside lobby area is really nice and even the decor/colors in the room itself was nice....it was just everything else. When I checked out around 8PM, the front desk clerk didn't ask me any questions or exhibit any kind of real customer service. I didn't expect much after my previous interaction with the other clerk, but I was surprised she didn't ask me why I was leaving early. I'd save your money and go somewhere else in the Harrisonburg area (my normal hotel was booked up which is why I ended up here). TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good location

We stayed here because it was convenient for visiting Shenandoah National Park and a family member at JMU. It is a short 20 minute ride to the Swift Gap Park entrance of the park, which is right in the middle. It is just a few minutes to JMU. Our room was clean, but showing some signs of wear. The staff was efficient and friendly. There was a microwave and fridge in the room, but the fridge did not have the mini freezer, which we like for our cooler ice packs. I knew at booking that there was no breakfast included, but there was also no coffee in the lobby, which was a disappointment. Hotel is convenient to restaurants and stores. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Returning in the future

Good clean hotel. It was a unexpected plus to find a refrigerator and microwave in my room. The room is a standard size with views of the city and mountains in the background. The hotel is situated in a college town so there are plenty of restaurants and shopping in close proximity. Overall good stay- TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellant views!! Best in town

I loved this hotel. A front facing room with a balcony. You can't go wrong. We sat on the balcony and watched the snow storm roll in over the mountains. Staff was super friendly. Bistro food was great quality. Great rates. Only down side pool happen to be closed the weekend we were there, for scheduled maintenance. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Disappointed

Feb 3rd, 2019

No breakfast, no accessible room, poor fitness room BUT Nada who worked the food concession was very accommodating. The room lacked a proper shower and verged on seedy. We did get a good nights ‘ sleep, though. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
