Going above and beyond: Eunique Charles

I’ve been fortunate to stay at several Marriott hotels, all over the world, including different brands, and well as working for the company for a few years. Marriott/Ritz Carlton hotels have always been enjoyable, and my family always enjoy our stay. In March of 2020, my stay was unfortunately not for vacation or business, but a time spent hoping for a miracle. I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott midtown east hotel with my husband, sister, and My 60 year old mom, who was ultimately given a last chance to beat stage 4 lung cancer, if accepted into a trial at Sloan Kettering hospital. To put it simply, the hardest year of my life, and after a few trips from DE to NY, she was not eligible for the trial. My heart was broken, my world seemed to completely turn upside down...and the person who kept me from “breaking”, was the most amazing front desk employee, Eunique Charles! Every visit we chatted, and I felt welcomed when I entered the hotel and truly feel I had a friend I could talk to. Eunique was extremely professional with all the guests I saw her interact with, yet never made anyone feel as if she was simply doing her job. She sincerely made every guest feel welcome, and I personally felt she was a friend from the first time we talked. She took time to help me figure out a complicated room booking, adjust the nights when our departure ended early, due to dismal from the trial, and made me smile and laugh out loud during a time when I cried a lot. The day I found out my mom did not qualify for the trial, Eunique could see the tears in my eyes as I entered the hotel. By the time I walked the 10 steps between the entrance and the front desk, she had taken off her gloves, made sure she had another staff member to cover the desk for 10 min. And simply said to me, let’s go for a walk. This “simple” gesture made a huge impact that I will never forget and forever be grateful. It was the relationship she built with the hotel guests, and her overall ability to connect with people, the qualities that separate the good from the great. She is certainly one of the great. She is truly an amazing person, and Marriott is so lucky to have an employee who truly exceeded all my expectations and clearly understands what hospitality is all about. I have never met an employee at any company as dedicated and so well rounded , as Eunique Charles. She is one of a kind, and Marriott is extremely fortunate to have her as a part of their team. For anyone who stays at this hotel, I recommend it, and the staff is a big reason why. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

2nd and last time at this hotel, don't understand the high ratings

2nd stay. Last stay bathroom was not clean and had hairs all over the tub. Hotel was useless in addressing the issue. This time, tv did not work and no one to fix, valet parking and hotel restaurant closed - was not told on website or when booking and this led to issues getting dinner beause by time got sorted out most places had already closed early - before 9pm - most likely due to covid so understandable, but frustrating. Even in the elevators the hotel promotes the restaurant! no simple sign "temporarily closed" so had we not asked at check in, my limited window to eat before DR appt next door would have been missed. This time room was clean, to be fair, by I can't see any reason to stay at this place when there are so many other options. Rooms have ripped carpet, strange wasted space layouts etc. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Terrible service!! Check your bill when checking out

We stayed at this hotel in February For 4 nights everything was great until we were checking out and I noticed that they had added $80 to my bill which I questioned with the lady at reception she informed me that it was added to the bill incase people had used The minibar and the hotel TVs movies. She also said that if you have not used any of these services you will be getting a refund in two weeks this has now been two months and still no refund I have emailed the manager twice and have yet to hear back from him which I’m very disappointed with!! It’s a shame because we would’ve definitely gone back there and stayed at the same hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great option for exploring the Big Apple

Really good location with subway stops close by, and a lot within easy walking distance. Rooms are big - larger than some in the city, and very clean. The hotel is slightly dated but I have found many US hotels are the same. Staff were so friendly and helpful, even when we needed to check out early because our home country was going on lockdown. Thank you Marriott, and thank you to the staff of the Courtyard. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Everything was great until I left an item behind

We recently spent the weekend at this hotel... great location/good size room. The problem came up when I realized I left my iPad... I used FindMyDevice function and the iPad location came back to third and 52nd... the hotel. I called and wrote emails... and I still have not heard from them. I understand someone could have taken the iPad... I'm the one who lost the iPad, so I do not expect them to replace it, but I least a call saying... we are so sorry we did not find it.
