Excellent Hotel in Shanghai

I stayed at this hotel in Shanghai on my way back from Ho Chi Minh this is a fantastic hotel in a great location of Shanghai I really loved everything about this the rooms,facilities pool, and the food is amazing fantastic location right in the heart of Jing an district amazing views. I was only there for 2 days and wish I was there for longer I usually stay into another Marriott hotel which I won't name. When I go back to Shanghai this is my home away from home. I loved everything about this hotel the only drawback which is minor is the staffs could smile more but I guess with language not much can do as not everyone speaks good English, I met the Front office manager Ethan Zhang who was very professional spoke excellent English and was very welcoming thanks Ethan it was a pleasure meeting you. I stay on the Executive Level which was top notch good food wines and staffs also the views was spectacular. I surely can't wait to come back to this hotel in Shanghai thanks Courtyard Central Shanghai my new home away from home while in Shanghai. Job well done on everyone. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Serves the basic and that’s all, don’t bother with service

Stayed here last month and had a very unpleasant experience. Firstly, the sales team does NOT value Marriott Platinum Members. Expect one tier higher than what you've booked. I requested for suite but they said they ran out of it. Long story short, I booked a night of suite and they finally upgraded after exchanging so many unnecessary emails. Their response is utter rubbish - depending on sales for the day? Ok, so we aren't consider "as a sale" then since it is confirmed. They only care about last minute sales to charge higher price that's all. That's their SOP. Upon second check in, since I've already seen their suite, I just take whatever they have given. They upgraded to Premier and did not offer Executive even when all the rest of the suites were available. I don't really bother about the suite anymore, but it would be nice to show your value by offering the Executive. NEVERMIND about that. Conclusion - they just don't value their Platinum members. Check in: I told them I'm arriving late at 4am, due to late flight arrival. It was late and the late shift staffs are not properly groomed nor anyone even cares, just laughing and being tired in their resting room. I understand it's late but if you're offering such service, be PROFESSIONAL about it. The check in took a longer time as expected but glad it was resolved. 2nd check in was slow too, just too many people. Not as bad as the first but not excellent either. Check out: Took almost 20 minutes, because they staff just wasn't competent enough to do the job. Later on I found out they only credited 2 nights when I stayed 3 because my arrival was past 12am - so they "forfeited" my 1st night. After many dingdongs, they finally submitted my 3 nights stay to Marriott Bonvoy. It's a pain to talk to any of their staffs because nothing seem to work correctly. The app did not really help either - only for restaurant bookings they were alright but anything more than that they can't do it. Any room related information = forget about it. One of the days, one of the staff was so rude, refuse to even reply after I had texted to check for updates. Jeez! This hotel is just for you to clock in and out, don't bother to do anything else as their service level is NEGATIVE if I can give them a rating. Breakfast and lounge choices are very good. So if you're typically just going there to stay and leave it's good but if you require good concierge services FORGET about this place as it will drive you nuts. Stayed here for 6 nights in total, but this will be the last time I'm picking this hotel, saves the pain. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Could use more Western amenities

This is the nicest Courtyard Marriott we’ve ever stayed at! That being said, since many of the guests are Western it would be nice if real brewed regular and decaf coffees were offered at the breakfast buffet. The toilet paper was on the roller but when it ran out we had to call the front desk to get more. Service WAS fast in delivering it though! Bottled water, robes and slippers were in every room- a nice touch. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Recently renovated

The hotel was renovated recently and smelled brand new, complete with a slight smell of paint. The room was pleasant and sizeable. The bed was comfortable with four pillows for different levels of stiffness. The wifi was fine. Breakfast was a little less than expected in that usually there was these spectacular spreads in Asian hotels, especially one with almost 500 rooms. The toilet had a bidet that worked pretty well. The shower wall was glass to the bedroom. You could frost it by pressing on a switch; press the switch again and it becomes clear. The place may be a little too high-tech. The privacy button is a switch. But there is no feedback and I never saw where the indication for privacy-on was placed. It turned out that I had left the privacy button on. (I can't be alone.) When I returned to shower before hitting the road again, I found the room undone and a note under the door that I should call them. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great value for the price

Very affordable hotel in Shanghai, it was the only one, at this quality level, we found for the RMB800s including breakfast. It was very clean and confortable, the customer service was great and the front desk people were at good English level. It is less than 2 blocks from the Line 1-Hanzhong Rd. metro station.
