Comfort and near the National Park

Apr 23rd, 2020

We stayed overnight at the hotel, and found it to be comfortable and well-appointed. Dinner was a buffet at the Altitude Restaurant, which was top value for, if I recall, $55 per head. It is a very large hotel, and some parking would not be close to the rooms, which could be a problem for inactive persons. In the morning we enjoyed an hour or so exploring the gallery and Exhibition space nearby - free and excellent! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Feels a bit like a down-market ski resort hotel

Apr 3rd, 2020

This is a strangely configured hotel - its all on one level over a wide area with long corridors and the rooms are quite basic. One side looks over the bush while the other looks out at the carpark. The rooms contained a double and a single bed and were rather dated although freshly painted, the bathroom was tiny and the shower rather tragic. Service was delightful, especially the girl on the front desk. Dinner was surprisingly good, portions generous and service delightful. Breakfast was less enjoyable with the cooked dishes looking greasy and/or dried out and the coffee (from a machine) was poor. However, we did see a wallaby outside our window and there were wombats in the bush by the decking and the hotel was warm despite the low temperatures outside and the pouring rain (in summer!) Will definitely visit again when things are back to normal and the walks have reopened. Amazing staff, great food and welcoming atmosphere. Considering the trying times we are all dealing with staff were happy and friendly, nothing was a problem. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

An cosy home within the wilderness

Mar 18th, 2020

What a pleasant surprise to arrive and find this spacious resort right in the midst of the wilderness. Arriving into a large reception area with a warm fire, with a welcoming bar and guest relaxation area behind (also with a warm fire going), met by friendly staff giving you all the tips on how to enjoy your stay - nothing is a problem. Rooms are spread along long corridors either side of the reception area with another cosy fire warmed guest lounge half way along each corridor. Our room faced the bush while others faced the car park - the bush was better I'm sure. There are access doors near each of the lounge areas to the car park so that it is easier to bring your luggage inside. Our room was quite large and the bathroom had a spa bath (very welcome after our hike in the mountains) and a separate large step in shower. We had the buffet breakfast one morning and the buffet dinner the next evening. We would have preferred the a-la-carte but beware you should book in advance to get your preferred timing. However both buffets had adequate choices. We did visit another venue during our stay and thought the Cradle Mountain Hotel was a much better venue in part due to the fact all facilities are interconnected. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Huge ugly hotel but blended in to the scenery I suppose

Mar 17th, 2020

Our room was a good size room with a lower floor sitting area that was nice. This is a huge hotel with a vast turnover of guests so pretty impersonal. I went for a walk out the front of the hotel into the bush which was nice. Breakfast and dinner were in a vast dining room with loads of choice to which you had to help yourself. Pretty average food but agin it all had to be transported for mile. We had a beer and a gin and tonic at around 6pm that came to cost $20 and it took ages for the drinks to arrive. We would not return TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
