Good value

Don't pass this one by if you want a good, clean, basic hotel. Yes, the building needs refurbishing, but the beds are comfortable and very clean, all basics are provided and the staff are extremely pleasant. If you need all the frills, keep searching. But the Criterion is good value for money. TRIPADVISOR.COM USERÂ
One night stopover

We wanted a cheap hotel for the night as we were going to a concert at The Optus Stadium. After looking around we decided on this hotel and were pleasantly surprised. We had been passed it a few times and always thought it looked drab and rough but, once you go into reception we were pleasantly surprised. Although the hotel is dated we could not fault the cleanliness from the white, soft fluffy towels to the clean sheets. The room had everything you needed kettle, tea and coffee with milk, fridge, safe and hairdryer. We returned to our room late and the hotel was lovely and quiet. Even in the morning it was quiet. Would stay again and recommend if wanting a cheap hotel in the city of Perth. TRIPADVISOR.COM USERÂ
Slept over after Skyworks

This hotel needs a major refurbishment. Staff at reception desk was great. No signage on outside, so folk walk passed it. Beds were comfortable. Air Con was good but you need to set it on "quiet". Great location. No restaurant. There was one once. TRIPADVISOR.COM USERÂ
Just the once

None of this review is to be taken as a criticism of the staff, who were polite and helpful at all times. I picked the Criterion as it was near the middle of the city and was priced for my budget. The hotel and rooms are old, I've stayed in better rooms in country NSW. My a/c dripped water during the night waking me up. The water dripped right onto the power point that the bedside lamp was plugged into, and the power was on. That's dangerous. I reported it in the morning and they fixed it during the day, but the next night it dripped again so they gave me a new room for the 3rd and 4th night. The doors are not properly sealed and at 3am I could hear someone's TV, not from the adjacent room (the walls are quite solid) but from somewhere down the hallway. Though the hotel is right in the middle of the city, and only a short walk to the wharves and shops, it is adjacent to a couple of run-down places, and there are a lot of people (drunk/drugged/vomiting/yelling etc) who hang around outside the hotel and the adjacent run-down places, it's not a safe feeling. If I visit Perth again I'll stay elsewhere unless some major changes have been made. TRIPADVISOR.COM USERÂ
Central and Sufficient

Staff were welcoming and helpful. The rooms match the rating BUT were quiet, well appointed and sufficient. Very handy location with plenty of restaurants near by. Close to CBD, transport and attractions. Would stay again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USERÂ
