Worst Crowne Plaza I've been in

Dec 30th, 2019

Flew Into Madison late on Christmas day due to a family emergency. It was too late to drive North so I contacted the hotel for a shuttle. Arrived after 11 PM and checked in quickly. Upon entering my room I discovered it was around 90 degrees. I attempted to adjust the heat but it was either off or full hot air. The windows do not open even a crack so I asked for anther room. I was provided another room down the hall and when I entered found the same situation. Extremely hot, no way to get cool air into the room and a non opening window. By this time it was after midnight and I had been traveling all day. I went to take a cold shower so I could sleep and discovered mold in the corners of the shower, a light fixture over the shower that looked like it was falling out and without a bulb. The rest of the night was spent laying on the bed sweating. The room was almost comfortable at around 75 degrees by 6 am. Was told that the breakfast was complimentary so I showered again, packed up and headed down to eat and get on the road. At checkout I was told by the front desk that breakfast was not complimentary. I then took the hotel shuttle back to the airport to get my rental car. The shuttle driver told me that the breakfast was in fact complimentary this week and I should have been advised of that. Besides what I've mentioned, the furniture is dated, the carpet is grungy and the bathroom sink had either cold or lukewarm water. I ended up shaving cold. No extra points IHG as promised. Super 8 is probably better

Dec 1st, 2019

I got a “deal” on a 3rd party site. The Super 8 around the corner was same price and I should have taken that route. Hotel lobby looks decent and clean. Hallways look nice and updated, but was dirty. Our room looked straight from the early 00s. Furniture is worn out, floors need a good deep clean. Just wore out. HVAC is dated so room temp is hard to get right. I hope they are going to remodel rooms sometime soon. This does not not really meet what I think would be a “crown plaza” standard for a hotel. Next time I’ll just stay at the 8 or the Comfort Inn. Sorry Crown I won’t be returning TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Substandard Crowne Plaza

Nov 14th, 2019

I recently stayed for a college bowling tournament. The hotel was full because of a Badger game but never seemed crowded. Staff I encountered were very nice but I can't imagine having to deal with the numerous customer complaints they must receive. Positives: Great rate with our group, easy check-in, beautiful lobby/hallways, clean room, large counter in the bathroom (one sink did not bother me), shower had great water pressure, convenient location to shopping and restaurants. Negatives: Air conditioning had been turned off, so only heat blowing into an already warm space (maintenance man very upset about it/opened our window for us so we could get some air), expensive breakfast buffet when compared with quality, buffet opened 25 minutes late (had to go to Starbucks), mattress was very hard, bathtub/shower seemed much smaller than usual, slow wi-fi even though I have member status, computer in the lobby uses Internet Explorer so none of my Google accounts would work (welcome to the year 2000), pool right in lobby which seemed very awkward. I would only stay here again if I had no other choice. I felt bad for my friends who had a room with a window only into the lobby--no natural light and no way to cool the room. Don't be fooled by the lobby--book a room somewhere else. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Incompetent and Threadbare

Nov 9th, 2019

Surely there’s a Motel 6 for what you pay here. Two hours for coffee in the morning when Room Service “forgot” my room number... Furniture from the 70s. Not a good place. My expectations were low and I was still disappointed. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Would not recommend!

Oct 27th, 2019

We recently stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and I would not recommend it at all. The lobby and hallways are very deceptive. They may have been recently updated, but the rooms are in dire need of work. The paint is chipping, the air vents are dirty, the shower/tub doesn’t drain, & the vanity was coming apart from the wall. My eyes were burning after an hour in the room. Someone was smoking next door & it traveled through the vents. We called maintenance the first night because the heat in our room wasn’t working. Even after the repair, the temp never went above 65, when the thermostat was on full blast at 85. Only 1 elevator was working, the floor lobby mirror was filthy. Standard hotel breakfast is expensive. The staff was kind & courteous at check-in, but that doesn’t offset the really awful conditions. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
