Could do a lot, lot better...

Mar 15th, 2020

This hotel was recommended by acquaintances who last used it a year ago. Judging by our experience and other comments, it is no longer so appealing. The main part of the hotel is still being refurbished. The annex we are staying in has evidently been redecorated but the quality is poor. The fire escape spiral staircase is rusted through in places and from there I noticed that the crossbeams supporting the upper veranda did not fully reach into the upright. I'm no architect, but I found this a little worrying. The room looks attractive but there is no facility to hang clothes! Given the cost, we found this omission very surprising in a hotel room. Although the bedside tables have a power supply, including USB (very useful) only one side worked. The ceiling lamp could not be completely switched off. There was no guidance on how to use anything in the room, including for the huge TV filling what we assumed would be a wardrobe. Use of the bathroom air extractor in a nearby room at 05:15 woke us up; the noise was redolent of a ship's engine, reverberating through the building. More maintenance or replacement needed. Breakfast was limited, and included little fresh produce, but friendly staff offered to try to improve that for us. With no provision to make a drink in the room, we would have expected the communal kitchen to be available for that; It wasn't. An outdoor water dispenser was all we found. We realise this is a sought after location and the hotel owners need to make a good return, but the overall impression is that they have sacrificed quality and concern for customers in their haste to reopen. Hopefully that will be addressed - too late for us though. For the price we paid, very, very disappointing. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Location is Closed

Be aware if you have a reservation at this location it is under construction. We arrived with a booked reservation for Feb. 16-22, 2020 only to show up to a construction zone. When we called the property they stated it wouldn't open for at least another 2 weeks. They were not able to help us and said the only thing they could do is provide a refund. We arrived in Key West for 6 nights to have no place to stay and no help from this property. Please do yourself a favor and contact this property if you have a reservation to make sure it is open for business and you don't arrive to only see you don't have anywhere to stay also! Perfect location near Duval - was able to walk to all bars and restaurants, CVS and liquor store near by, friendly and helpful staff, clean room with all amenities needed, small and quiant hotel that captures the essence of Key West, pool was clean and refreshing and allowed us to meet and talk with other guest, breakfast was nothing extravagant but typical continental breakfast, coffee was fresh and hot. Definitely will stay again! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Staying here for years - now a huge disappointment in service

Nov 30th, 2019

We have been staying at the cypress house for about seven years every January. Booked our trip for this January back on March 31 booked directly through the cypress hotel we always like the same room number 4 second floor king with the porch. Happened to jump on the website a few weeks ago only to see that the hotel is under construction which I thought was funny because last January we could not stay in our favorite room we had to sleep at one of the Annex rooms because the property was going into reconstruction for renovations. So I called the hotel only to find out they’re closed and was told they will not even be open in January. As I was about five weeks from the start of our vacation this was very upsetting as no one had notified us the hotel will not be open. They offered us another hotel that my husband doesn’t like. I started to look elsewhere and I was lucky enough to find a room in the Curry Mansion right down the street. I called the Cyprus house today to cancel my reservation and receive my refund. I was told I would not get a refund as policy states there is no refunds. I referred back to my confirmation that I was emailed when I made my reservation and it clearly stated cancellations or modifications must be received at least seven days prior to arrival to receive a deposit refund. As we are over a month from our trip getting a refund on our cancellation should not be an issue. I spent over three hours on the phone today trying to cancel my reservation and obtain my refund only to be told numerous times I was being transferred to a supervisor and then I was disconnected or they never came back after putting me on hold. I have never been treated so poorly, we used to love this hotel I have been coming here for seven years and to be treated in this manner I have never been so disappointing. This hotel was purchased but IGH they transferred me to them at one point and they told me they couldn’t help me because the hotels have not been fully transferred over to their company. As it stands I have gotten nowhere with the Historic Key West Inns. I have been unable to cancel my reservation or obtain my refund. At this point I have contacted my credit card company who iwill be disputing the charges. We were looking forward to the renovations of this hotel but after seven years we won’t stay there again not after the treatment we received. I do feel bad for those others who have reservations in January and have not been notified the hotel will not be open, what a poor way to do business. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
