Can't beat the location, good value even with dated accomodations

Aug 25th, 2019

My husband, 20s daughter and I stayed here to be close to my son in San Juan Capistrano. We were very happy with the beautiful location. Dana Point Harbor is very scenic and the Marina Inn sits right along the harbor. It is within easy walking distance to all the shops and eateries along the harbor. It is also walking distance to some chain restaurants along the PCH. Doheny Beach, with its beach, bike rentals, changing rooms etc, is a short distance past the harbor - definitely walk-able. Other places within easy walking distance is over to the bridge to the park on the other side of the harbor and crossing the main street to climb the stairs and see the vista from above. We enjoyed our stay at the Marina Inn and felt it was a good value for the money. We used our AAA discount for a room with two beds. We were given room 113 on the first floor which faced the parking lot. I was tempted to ask for a change to a higher floor so we could open our slider but didn't bother in the end. Our room had a wall a/c unit instead of central air, so was a bit noisy but kept the room comfortably cool. The beds were comfortable and had enough blankets and pillows. There was a fridge/freezer combo that was very helpful. Unfortunately during our stay the fitness room was closed for refurbishment. Also, the breakfast room was being renovated so they moved breakfast to a conference room which was a good temporary solution but had limited seating. The parking is free and plentiful. The pool was relatively small but good for a quick dip and the hot tub held six - eight people. The first floor units facing the pool had a slider going out to a patio with chairs/tables which would be a nice option. All in all, we loved the location and the Inn was comfortable for our mid-week stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Correct price point

Aug 11th, 2019

The pros: very reasonable, location next to harbor with many restaurant choices, coffee cafe, etc. across the street is an amazing (albeit pricey) juice bar, nail salon, more restaurants, beautiful views at Heritage Park, staff was nice. The cons: rooms are in need of update (lamp shade broken, sink cracked, shower curtain torn, shower curtain rod rusting, closet rod plastic cover ripping), beds were kind of hard, can be noisy if you like to sleep with the door open and are facing the pool (it was past 10 and people were still playing loud music). The rooms were okay, except. the breakfast brunch was most disappointing.. Lots of places to dine in the area. The views of the area was excellent. The staff at the hotel were always ready to assist you. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Weekend Get Away

Jul 31st, 2019

Read reviews on Dana Point Marina Inn and was happy to make a reservation to stay here. The location was great, right on the marina within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. Was given a first floor room ( brought my puppy with me) which made life easier for me in the mornings taking him for his walk. The room was a standard room with 2 queen beds which were very comfortable but the 3 pillows were much to be desired very flat. As I said before I got a first floor room but by doing that it I was open to the constant noise and pounding of the floor above me which kept me up at night. As usual there were inconsiderate people slamming doors a hours of the night. The room was dated and the bathroom was in need of a major make over. Chipped bathtubs, very bad water pressure and no place to put cosmetics. Staying here was okay because of location and the hospitality of Julie. If you are on a budget this place would be great for you. Next time I would try another hotel in the area. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
