Worst customer service by manager Daniel walker
Nov 30th, 2020
Rang to confirm my booking with the hotel as I had made reservations through 3rd party (snap travel) and was told that we cannot accept the booking as there is no rooms available and no roller beds for the child. They said never heard of snap travel and we cannot accept the booking . I asked to speak to the manager (Daniel walker) and he refused to speak to me and asked me to call snap travel and get a refund. How rude of him to first not wanting to talk to me and then telling me that they will not accept the booking even though I booked for 3 adults they can’t provide extra bedding and asking me to request refund. First of all you shouldn’t be giving out your rooms to 3rd party companies you haven’t heard of and then once booked telling customer that they can’t accept the booking and then ask customer to cancel booking and then manager refusing to speak to customer. What kinda customer service is this. Manager refusing to speak to customer. How rude !!!! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Daydreaming on the Great Barrier Reef
Nov 25th, 2020
I booked 4 nights in November 2020 on Daydream Island in June 2020 through TripaDeal, with fingers crossed that COVID-19 would clear up in time. The TripaDeal bonuses seemed (and ultimately were) worthwhile - included return ferry transfers for 2 (around $120), a bottle of sparkling wine on arrival and $200 bar/restaurant credit. Back in June, of course, things like flights and ferries were uncertain - indeed whether the resort would be open - but I spoke to the resort, Cruise Whitsundays (the ferry service) and TripaDeal, and that gave me the confidence to book. It all went to plan and was glorious. The weather was perfect. The room was new, clean, and large, with a/c, flat screen, tea/coffee/milk/jug, safe, ironing board, fridge, large bed, couch, small balcony, good bathroom, shower/bath, fluffy towels and toiletries. The Living Reef is impressive and seems well looked after by resident marine biologists. The pool(s) are nice; a swim up bar too. There’s an outside cinema that runs a couple of times a week. Non- motorised water equipment (we snorkelled at Lovers Cove [not much to see], stand-up paddle boarded and kayaked) is included for free. The gym is small but pretty good and we used it every day. Breakfast was good - big range, including an omelette bar. A few bars to choose from. Coffee shop. Convenience shop (ice cream to sunscreen). Two main restaurants and bar food at the Gin Bar for lunch and dinner. We tried them all. It was all pretty good; a little on the expensive side for what it was, but then add in transporting everything to an island and it makes sense. One night, we got take-away pizza from the restaurant and a drink from the bar, and ate near the beach - very relaxing. They had a small pop-up bar at Lovers Cove to watch the sun set. There are kangaroos and hilarious curlews (birds) roaming free. Staff were nice; reception staff helpful. We had a great time! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Daydream of the past seems to be gone
Nov 25th, 2020
This was our first visit back to Daydream since the cyclone and Covid. We have loved Daydream for years but overall this time we left with mixed feelings. The rooms have been beautifully refurbished and were comfortable. The downfall there was that our room wasn’t serviced in the time we stayed at all. We put the sign out everyday, only taking it down at nap time but still no clean towels etc. Breakfast was a bit lacking, with minimal options and the pastries were always burnt - we stayed for 4 days and they were burnt every day. But still the ambience of breakfast is always lovely with the reef. The living reef and under water observatory was a hit with the kids and thoroughly enjoyable. It was so sad to see the South end of the island in such disrepair, it was previously so much fun with the gorgeous bakery and Tavern. Service was generally dismal. We often waited 20mins in a line to get a drink. There seemed to be a staff shortage and the staff that were working had poor attitudes with the exception of a few. Shout out to the lady at the Tonic bar (Amy maybe?), she was wonderful and so friendly. Not having access to real food and snacks throughout the day (outside formal meal times) is a huge issue when you have little children. The website advises you not to bring any food onto the island.... but then I couldn’t feed my kids! I couldn’t even buy toasted sandwiches etc more smokos. The kids menu was appalling, pasta, burger, nuggets or fish - all served with chips. One night a waitress did organise some steamed broccoli for the kids, which we were so thankful for. Other than that, it was terrible. The pool was beautiful as always and we thoroughly enjoyed swimming our days away. Although even this experience was marred with a customer service incident. My daughter (2yr old) tripped and banged her face/mouth/teeth on a table, we had blood going everywhere and she was a mess. Thankfully my husband is a firefighter and deals with these things well and we got her sorted out. But this happened right beside the kids pool, directly in front of 2 lifeguards, who didn’t move an inch to help. They stared and then ignored us. No offer of ice or paper towels or any kind of help. It was very poor and a horrible reflection on the Daydream Island team. On a more positive note. The Infinity restaurant is exceptional! My gosh the food was delicious, our waitress was amazing and the service was so quick. I think our waitress was Lotta, we experienced her customer service a few times and she was amazing! Our son adored her and she really delivered an exceptional customer experience, even the small things like getting our kids straws etc. No other waitress did this at all. We had to leave a day early due to my husbands work, reception was exceptionally accommodating and helpful. For that we are so grateful. Overall, we love Daydream so we will undoubtedly give it another go in the future. But if this was our first experience, I don’t think we’d go back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
Great Island Getaway
Nov 19th, 2020
Spent 3 fantastic days on Daydream Island in the wonderful Whitsundays. Right from the moment we arrived we were greeted off the ferry, and enjoyed every minute. Our superior pool view room was spotless with up to date decor and features. We dined at both Inkstone and Infinity Restaurants with first class meals and friendly professional staff. The living reef was fantastic with plenty of fish species and informative staff. Also enjoyed many hours of poolside r&r with a cold cocktail. We'll be back. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
