Unacceptable

Aug 24th, 2020

Probably the worst experience I’ve ever had in Halifax. I expected a microwave & a coffee maker in the room as I haven’t been in a room without either in years but that was apparently the least of my worries. Brought my daughter for a weekend out before school starts but was surprised with unmade beds, blood on the sheets, coffee on the sheets and tags left in the room from the previous person. I have no idea how ALL of these things were missed..... The staff at the front desk were great! They quickly sent someone to the room and redid the room however during COVID especially this is NOT acceptable. I wasn’t going to say anything until I brought my daughter for a walk. When returning to the hotel there was a young girl (who I saw checking in this morning) buying drugs right AT THE MAIN DOOR OF THE HOTEL. Passing the drugs and money back and forth with my daughter asking me what they were doing. How do you explain that to a little girl??? And why is someone that could barely open their eyes to begin with even able to check in???? I get what happened outside isn’t the hotels responsibility but in my opinion she should have never been allowed to stay here. ANOTHER thing - it would have been nice to know ahead of time there is no hotel parking and you have to pay $25 a day to park your car. Also your add states waterfront, it is not on the waterfront. Not too bad

The hotel is not as good as its images on the website, but it can be acceptable. I can neglect all the problems that I had there unless the following: I arrived the last Friday at 5 PM and used public parking. The hotel's front desk charged us $20 as the parking cost. At that moment, nobody informed us that we could pay $8 (because of Friday 5 PM to Saturday 11:59 PM is only $8) by ours. The difference is only $12 (not a big deal), but I cannot forget. Decent Hotel downtown

Location is great- quick walk down to the waterfront or many restaurants. Hotel is starting to show a bit of age but was very clean. We had originally booked the hotel across the road and we were moved due to covid. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Ideal and convenient location the only nice amenity for this hotel.

My husband and I stayed at The Hotel Halifax as a getaway when his parents were in town and offered a weekend of babysitting for us. We didn’t need anything too luxurious, rather a clean and well managed hotel to relax. For the price I thought that we would have a clean room, decent privacy, and exceptional service from staff. We didn’t expect luxury and chose to stay at a lower rated Hotel because we didn’t require it for this particular stay. The lobby was very nice, clean, and all COVID protocols were clearly displayed and very easy to follow. Check in was when things began to go sideways. We had booked a specific room that allowed us to have a balcony and “Harbour View”. The lady at check in made me show her my booking confirmation that I was booked into a room with a Harbour view and then proceeded to “have to find a room for me”. After a brief wait and her confirming with a colleague, we were provided our keys and on our way to the room. We made it to the room only to quickly discover that there was a humid/musty smell lingering, old food from previous guests in the refrigerator and it was evident that the carpet was not properly vacuumed. Further, our “balcony” was a shared with every other person on that floor. I decided to call the front desk to see if we could be moved to another room that was clean and had a private balcony with or without the view. After waiting 30 minutes for them to call back they said they could not accommodate. No apologies. They did offer to send someone up to retrieve the trash that was missed. When leaving Sunday morning the old food was still waiting to be picked up by staff. The bathroom was cleaned to minimum expectation but exceptionally small. There were plenty of towels provided. The shower had good pressure but the tub was small and after looking at the grout and other spots I didn’t feel comfortable having a bath to relax. The water was hard and certainly didn’t leave a nice feeling on my skin. The bed was comfortable but with the increased humidity and general feeling we had about the room barely being cleaned, it was difficult to feel fully comfortable. The sheets were the same quality you would expect from the dollar store and the “duvet” was old and lightly stained. The WiFi was decent speed, but it would often kick us off (same issue with all 3 devices we were using). The TV was older but was decent and had basic cable. We highly considered cancelling our second night but felt it wasn’t worth ruining our only time away to relax so we stuck it out and tried to make the best of our very limit and rare time away. By Sunday at 730 were were packed and ready to go home. I couldn’t wait to have a shower in my own home. Overall, I am embarrassed to admit that I stayed here and paid for it. I could never recommend this to anyone other than a group of younger people who are in the city to go out and explore and are spending the bare minimum time in the room. For anyone else, there are many other hotels in the area at a similar price point that will almost certainly offer a better experience. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Wasn't a fan of this hotel.

Mar 1st, 2020

Our room was dirty when we walked in. The sheets weren't tucked in, I am guessing the previous guests made their bed before leaving. Our modem was blinking green the entire night, which is surprising, because the wifi didn't work. None of our phones had good wifi. The hotel is in a good location, but for what we paid with the $17 parking fee, I will choose another hotel next time, that includes free breakfast and working internet. We did put a complaint in at the front desk and was offered a coffee for our troubles. I will personally not choose this hotel again, based on cleanliness alone. We didn't save anything by staying here, and it was a bad sleep. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
