A dream setting for a hotel

Jul 15th, 2019

When you arrive at a venue like this, from the front it seems like any Marriott, but when you walk out back and see the lake esplanade and Okanagan Lake it surrounds - just magical. If you can ask for a room with a view - ask for a high floor - 6+ - or in most cases you will see a building infront of you [depending on which tower you are in]. There are privately owned or long stay apartments to rent too in the other tower and they had the best views of the lake. There are also city/mountain view rooms too. On checking in there was no concierge to help - had to bring items in with the help of my driver. BUT - Kudos to the concierge he was multi-tasking and helping out elsewhere, but for a large establishment such as this you'd expect more than one working at any given time. On check in there was a mix up with my booking and after a bit of a moving around got a lovely room on the 6th floor facing the lake and a building too, but I could see over it. It was great to watch the seaplanes land and take off from this vantage point. Watching the sunset and seeing snow falling from the windows/'balcony' was amazing. The room itself was spacious as it was a corner room and had 2 windows which opened, though the 'balcony' was not big enough to sit out on. The bathroom was spacious and had a window you could open out and see the lake from, just be wary of taking showers early morning or at nights as you can see in from the building opposite. The bed was comfy and if you ask they bring extra bedding to keep you warm on the cold nights. The room was equipped with the basics, including a great coffee machine and the room service menu linked with the restaurant below. The staff were exceptional, so polite as well as knowledgeable [with the exception of some at the spa - see separate review]. There are tracks to walk around the hotel along the lake and through a habitat to preserve the wildlife and also lead to a walk around the Okanagan Lake too. I recommend going in Autumn as the changing of the trees and coming of snow is pretty to watch but rug up as it gets very cold and windy. The pool was being fixed, though others used the spa, which had very loud music playing from early on. You can wine taste here, visit the Art Lovers Gallery [formally a Dr Seuss plus other artists gallery], and make sure you chat with the owners - 2 exceptional people. You can see shows/sports across the road at the concert arena, check out the local shops and visit wineries by car not too far away plus other nature hikes, including a lookout. The new restaurant called the Oak & Cru Social Kitchen and Wine Bar - was a treat and set up with informal to formal seating, with a fireplace and a new bar just being completed as I was there. The outside decked area was amazing and I can see it being very popular in the warmer months. The menu was interesting though not all to my liking but the pizzas are a must as are the desserts. I was pleasantly surprised to see a very well known singer and his band staying here while I was there and I believe this is a regular occurrence when shows happen - so if you like star watching - keep your eyes open - you never know who you might see! I'd stay there again, but I can recommend hiring a car so you can venture further. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Stay here and be WOWed!

We stayed here for 2 nights in a two-bedroom suite, complete with 2 full bathrooms, a beautiful living area with fireplace and kitchen area. We were on the top floor so the high ceilings really opened up the space. The bathroom in the master bedroom is very spacious and boasts a jacuzzi as well as a spacious shower stall. The apartment suites are located away in a separate complex away from the main building (but just a short walk away)- a quiet haven for those seeking some peace and quiet. The suite was clean and tidy, with the wooden floors adding a nice rustic touch. The views are BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL. You can use the paddleboats for free. We also used their bikes to ride along the boardwalk. We had lunch at Oak + Cru and we were impressed with the food and service/ attention we got at such a busy and bustling place. There's a mini games room for the kids and a casino for the adults. There's an outdoor swimming pool which unfortunately we didn't have time to visit. The resort is strategically located near many restaurants (we tried a couple of them. You can walk to Cactus Club Cafe from the resort). It's also close to Kangaroo Creek Farm (MUST-GO attraction if you have kids or if you love animals!), Don-O-Ray Farm and the beautiful wineries (we visited Quails' Gate winery and had lunch there- another must-go if you can!- as well as got some wines from Mission Hill winery. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to visit more.). Can't wait to visit Kelowna again. We will be back and stay here again! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Beware!! Some of the rooms on this property have been updated. Some have NOT. I paid approximately $700 per night for a room. I was given an outdated room. I let the lady that checked me in know that I was dissatisfied. Asked her to please move me to one of the rooms that had been updated. She first told me none were available. However, they were available online, which I pointed out. I asked her to find me a remodeled room while I had dinner with my family. When I checked back in with her she walked me over to the exact same part of the hotel and showed me an outdated room, just a different configuration. The room I wanted had a lower rate than what I paid but I wasn’t even asking to pay less. I just wanted an updated room that didn’t look like it had seen better days. Not being able to accommodate a simple request, and wasting so much of my stay here to accomplish absolutely nothing is embarrassing. Kendra and Bella I believe were the names of the women that were unable to assist me. A lot of talk and spin with no result, which is the worst type of customer service, in my opinion. The views are pretty. That’s all. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

What a Nice Property

Jul 12th, 2019

Stayed here for work and it was a very nice hotel. Staff was great. My only complaint is that I reserved a Lake View Room and technically it was... However from most places in the room there was view of the building next door. When you walked over to the window and turned your head there was a gorgeous view of the lake. I wish that that would have been made clear at the time of booking. Other than that it was your typical Marriott experience. I loved Kelowna. What a beautiful city and area. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Excellent hotel for families!

We had an incredible time staying 3 nights here. We were in town for a wedding but had an enjoyable time at the hotel. The restaurant is very family friendly, the staff at the hotel are very friendly, valet parking is affordable and even the game room is fun for older kids. The pool is excellent and the spa is also very good. Just outside the front door is an excellent hair salon as well which was handy for getting ready prior to attending a wedding. Overall we enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
