Gave it Another Chance, Still Disappointed

I stayed here back in October and was charged triply for a one-night stay. Initially charged only twice, it was a lot of work trying to get anyone from corporate or this property to have the charged reverse. Over two weeks later, when someone finally did try to reverse the charge, they charged me yet again before finally releasing the two incorrect charges. As a result of this inconvenience (along with cleanliness issues of the pool and pool restroom), the GM was kind enough to extend a one-night stay to me at a later date. This past weekend I redeemed my stay to give them another chance. I combined it with another one-night certificate through Bonvoy, and paid for a third night at a great rate. The GM was kind enough to upgrade me to a spacious suite for all three days! The layout was beautiful although I did wish the bathroom had a bathtub. Only one remote control worked for the tvs. Once again, cleanliness issues with the pool and hot tub. The pool is only closed between 11pm and 5am, so I am curious as to when it actually is cleaned, as we went pretty early in the day and there was visible dirt, grime, and hair floating in the water. All three days there was a small piece of dried-up fruit stuck to same the pool exterior. The hot tub is not very warm, but could be rather nice if cleaned properly and set to a better temperature. All above were fine and not worthy of a bad review if we’re not splitting hairs. I did enjoy the room and appreciated the gesture that was shown me. I was told over the phone I would just need to renew my keys each day, as each night was booked separately, which made sense to me. However, the first day I attempted to do this, I was rudely told that “renewing my keys” actually meant needlessly being checked out and then in again, prompting the need to put my card down yet again for incidentals. The first night I was charged $50 above my rate and was advised the incidental fee was $50. This also made sense to me, until this incredibly rude woman charged my card on the second day for a random amount just under $100–far above what I was told was the hold for incidentals. These, of course, will be pending for at least a week until returned (if by then; not heartened by my last experience in terms of a timely repayment of funds owed) and the breakdown cannot be ascertained, despite an unreturned email from the GM, who clearly does not actually care about what should have been an easily-recovered service, nor delivery of a promise that my money would not be carelessly and seemingly arbitrarily taken again without explanation. The third day I attempted to check out and back in again, I was simply given renewed key. So there was a way to avoid the second hold, contrary to what the rude front desk agent advised me on day 2 when she gleefully ran my card again for a random amount. TLDR: A perfectly fine hotel if not one with terribly unclean pool area with nice rooms and beds but terrible lack of focus on guest experience and follow-through. They will mess with your money and charge random amounts that take ages to return to you, and are not attentive in attempts to make things right. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good Hotel & Restaurant

My king size bed was comfortable with ample space. The views of the city are nice, especially looking out over the James River. The restaurant was surprisingly good with a personable wait staff. The timing of the food arriving hot and tasty was greatly appreciated. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Stellar property with stellar management in Downtown Richmond.

This hotel and its Front Desk Manager Zach Garza are a shining example of how hotels should operate. I got to the hotel really late. My reservation didn’t have my phone number or my loyalty number because of a travel agency error. So I had no room when I arrived because they were overbooked, and they had no way of letting me know that ahead of time. Things could have gone really badly. Instead Zach more than happily arranged not only a comped room elsewhere. But at a lovely property near where I needed to be, as well as transportation to it. But then he went above and beyond by offering me a comp night the following night at this property not in a room but in a GORGEOUS two story suite with a spiral staircase because, he said, we had been able to wrangle the whole situation with grace and a laugh instead of with frustration and raised voices. A lesson for properties and guests alike. The suite was outrageous! As was the “pantry,” down the hall with the room full of sodas and waters and juices and snacks and coffee and your name it. The hotel is in an amazing downtown location and has a great staff, great rooms, and great ammenities. My only regret is that the suite was a surprise so I checked in late and didn’t enjoy it for as long as I could have. I’ll be back though for sure. Zach, will you get my suite ready, please? Excellent Accommondation

We only spent one night, but that was enough to know that this is an excellent hotel. All staff were pleasant and professional. The room was sparkling clean. We loved the heated bathroom floor, which didn't interfere with keeping the room cool for sleeping. Super comfy bed. The lounge was comfortable for a drink and socializing. Breakfast was excellent and reasonably priced. The shuttle to anywhere within a 2 mile radius a definite bouns. Walking distance to a couple of eateries. Easy in and out parking on premises, though valet is available also. Excellent stay. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Didn’t want to leave!

My husband had to be in Richmond for business for a week and my two year old and I tagged along. At first, I was very hesitant to tag along especially with a toddler and being I wasn’t going to have any help from my husband because he would be in meetings Literally all day long every day. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by Tomas. Tomas was my everything on this stay! He was always a phone call away and so very pleasant! He would even hold my child while I unloaded my car each day we would arrive back from our outings. Saed from Room service made sure to have just what my toddler wanted and would go out of his way to get it if he didn’t have it! John Paul at the front desk was very helpful as well too! Overall the best hotel experience EVER! And we travel a lot! If and when we come back to Richmond I will for sure be staying here! 5 stars!!! I seriously hated to check out. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
