Disney's Beach Club Resort Feb 21-24

My friend and I came to town to run in the Princess 10K/Half Marathon and stayed at the Beach Club. I was notified on the Disney bus from the airport that our room was ready, so we were happy to by-pass the front desk and go straight to our room. The room was very nice, nothing special. It could have been a generic hotel anywhere. I had booked a room with a water view. The room we got overlooked the pool, which is water, so technically I guess considered a room with a water view. I was expecting a view of the lagoon area, so felt disappointed. We ran the 10K the next morning, returned to shower and clean up. Our shower would not get hot. Ugh. We tried to call the front desk, but our phone would not call down to the front desk and the line would go dead. 2 cold showers later, I headed to the lobby to get the problem could be fixed. Thankfully, they did send someone to fix the problem a few hours later. The Resort seemed understaffed. I had questions about race day events, park tickets and other activities and I couldn't find anyone to answer my questions. The concierge was combined with check-in, so I waited in line 30 minutes 2 or 3 times just to have simple questions answered. I couldn't call down, because as mentioned before, our phone would not connect to the front desk. I have stayed at many Disney properties and feel very disappointed with my stay at the Beach Club. I can't believe I spent my money on this hotel. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Terrible check in, hoping for a great rest of our stay!

We arrived at the Beach Club at 6:30pm with our party of 4 adults and 4 kids. We had reserved two rooms with double beds and a pull out couch. At check in, as we were giving them the names of who was in each room, our front desk attendant discovered that the wrong people were assigned to the wrong rooms, and it would take a few minutes to fix, so encouraged us to sit in lobby away from front desk and she would come get us when she was done. Kids and adults were hungry and tired, but no problem, we sat down. 20 minutes later when she hadn’t come to get us, I waited in the long check in line (again) to find out the rooms still weren’t sorted out. As we were hungry, she encouraged us to grab a bite at the marketplace and she would come get us when the keys/bands were ready. 45 minutes later, when no one had come to get us, I waited in the long check in line (again). The rooms were ready! I waited in the bell services line to give them the room numbers to send our bags to our rooms and we headed off. Now nearly 9pm, one the rooms was as advertised and one had a king bed. As none of the four adults are married, a king bed is a nonstarter, as I had told them at the front desk. All the tired kids and adults went into one room, while I went to wait in the check in line for a fourth time. The front desk corrected the problem and gave us new keys. We had to redirect the luggage, but by 10pm, nearly everything was ok. Second room did not have a pull out couch, but after calling for a cot and having it delivered in under an hour, we were settled. I’m hopeful that the rest of our stay will have better service than the first three hours we were here. Don’t make promises that you will come and find a family to check them in when you won’t. Arriving at Disney is a super exciting time for kids and having to redirect their energy for the first three hours was a challenging experience for this mom. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

We booked 1 night here as part of a 11 night stay in Orlando, in the main to be closer to Hollywood Studios for the 6am start require to ride 'rise of the resistance'. The plus ... beautifully themed pools but very, very crowded and certainly not a pool to relax by but rather a place to watch your own kids and everyone else's have fun. The not so great ..... well, let's just say the hotel was just ok and for Disney prices and hype that probably isn't good enough. Theming is subtle (fine by me), decor is in need of lots of refreshing (very badly scuffed corridor walls, skirting and in room too), room is small and roll away bed only really ok for someone to use as an occasional bed and not a longer stay, service was a bit meh! We checked in at 9am only to find the magic bands we'd spent ages confuguring with colours and names on the app hadn't been ordered (cue disappointed children). We were sent a text in the parks to say room was ready at 3pm (fine) but on arrival to room at 11pm found the rollaway/Murphy bed hadn't even been made up for our 9 year old. Housekeeping were apologetic and sent someone down, but when they did appear they seemed surprised we couldn't have tackled the job ourselves.... given making up the bed was pulling one blanket stored in a bag out of the wardrobe (no sheet other than the one he got to lay on), we probably could. All in all nothing terrible to say but equally nothing amazing either and given this hotel was four times the price of our other accommodation (and to be honest no where near as good as it and certainly no where near as good as the Disney Fort Wilderness Campgrounds and Cabins or Animal Kingdom where we have previously stayed) this is a shame. Not one for us I'm afraid and Disney, when your prices 'sparkle' your service has to sparkle and be consistent too! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Management needs to step up!

December 14-21 stay. We are FL residents, passholders and military family who always look for a good deal. We travel with 2 children: 1yo and 5yo. This resort will be compared to our previous stays in Grand Florudian, Contemporary, wilderness and animal kingdom lodge. THE GOOD: *location! We never stayed on this side of parks before, usually sticking to Magic kingdom. So beach club was leap of faith. We booked garden view room and upon checking requested not to have to many neighbors because our 1 yo wakes up 4 am and is full go go go and loud. Concierge was gracious enough to upgrade us to water view room all the way on the Epcot side of building with separate entrance right there! Thank you! That was great! To walk 2 minutes literally to Epcot france was amazeballs, get pastries, food, look at skywalk gondolas, fireworks ect. Location of this resort is awesome!! Short trip on gondolas to Hollywood studios or even shorter boat ride was enjoyed by us and kids. Busses were on time for other parks as well, not crowded, was easy ride. *scenery and grounds! Was breathtaking to see all those resorts so close together (boardwalk, swan, yacht etc), lake between and grounds are simply breathtaking, it’s almost like you staying in the park, which you almost do because proximity but the whole vibe is more alive, more disney, more move, more see. You can make a nice loop around Boardwalk to get drinks and food, a lot of people ran and jogged, you can rent little bike wagons too. It’s a lot to see just right there and enjoy. You will need a day just for that! We didn’t use any of Boardwalk restaurants as they seemed more bigger kids thing. But we walked a lot in the mornings(we are early birds because of 1yo) and at evenings. THE BAD: *pool. Yeah i know i know, waterpark, lazy river blah blah sand on bottom. Living in resort beach community ourselves we not easily amazed, I’m looking for convenience and easiness of use coz 2 small children. That was not that! First of all, splash are by pirate ship has no place or no sitting area at all!!!!!! So if i want to splash with my 1yo it’s no place for us even to sit or leave our bags. I was expecting something more like in GF splash pad:separated entrance, plenty sitting, shallow water. Nope not in Beach club. Also in order for kids go on slide they have to leave Big pool area, walk out the door, cross the sidewalk where everyone walks to parks. That was not a pleasant surprise to us, so one of us had to make sure our 5yo accompanied by one of us to slide then rush back to see him and catch him in the water. Was quite a legwork for my husband plus I didn’t like constant separation of the family. Also we just couldn’t let him go on his own because adults were using that slide too, again completely leaving pool area walking across sidewalk. Such a bad design ughhhh. But if your kid 8+ and knows how to swim and yell he/she should be fine. They do check if you stay on property and give you wristbands like in waterparks. Plenty of lifeguards. *housekeeping. I did housekeeper back in the day so i have big respect for those people and very high tolerance to poor service. However if I’m out of my room by 6-7am and leaving tip daily in Deluxe resort service could be better. In all other delux resorts if they see you using more of certain things they leave more of those things like coffee, lotion etc. not here. They made beds, took trash and change towels-basic yes. Extra-Noooooooo. No extra coffee, one time she refilled with one pod of regular, while there are two adults visibly who didn’t touch decaf or tea. No refills on toiletries!!! That was a shock to me. I remember in GF lady seeing me in hallway was giving me extra lotions to keep in purse while going to park, to moisturize! She was so sweet! In Beach club oh you still have lil bit on the bottom left-no refills for you. Last time i check there is new set of toiletries accounted for each room for EVERY day, in case of new guests coming every night, so why i have to look and ask for 20 cents shampoo? It should be refilled daily!!!!! I had some of my things so i was good, but my husband LOVES disney things so he was very very disappointed. We stayed all week, and all week was the same. Also no disney towel design for kids, nothing extra. *resort lobby was blah, nothing grand, very low ceilings, always crowded, nothing special there to see. If you want awesome lobby that is grand, book GF with concerts, cinderella, piano playing or Contemporary with monorail coming through. Or even Wilderness has amazing breathtaking lobby. This one is just blah. * quick service is a joke!!!!! Joke joke! I hated it with passion, that’s one of the reasons why we won’t be back! If you have two small children you need good and quick fast food option. Beach club has the WORST WORST quick service cafe i ever seen in Disney period! It has no sitting besides two tables in the hall where everyone walking, only choice is outside sitting. No high chairs no boosters for kids. In December was 50 degrees how we should eat outside with 1yo???? I dare resort manager use that outside sitting full of birds, windy and cold on December morning!!! You go take your small children there! You a resort manager should go and look at Casparilla grill in GF and take a note how delux resort quick service should look like. Beachclub marketplace had only few food options that never changed, also if they out of those-they out. You have to grab cold stuff from fridges, wait long lines with your food(yeah quickservice is the same place as shop), so you wait with trays and screaming kids behind 5 ppl picking a pin. Soooooo bad and then you have to take your kids outside at 50 degree weather or 100 :) in the summer and feed them inside stroller like gypsy. Contemporary has great quick service too, but GF IS THE CREAM! plenty of seating, food brought to you, cocktails, drinks, pastries galore, multiple food options! Beachclub marketplace left me hungry. First time ever i was hungry in Disney resort. They do have buffet restaurant but you cannot eat there 2-3 times per day, just not realistic. *coffee shop. Right across from marketplace there is “coffee shop”, which is a joke! Few coffee machines dats it, 2 pastries options. The place is huge but sooo run down, furniture is old with stains, i was honestly embarrassed for resort and surprised, because price per night is pretty high to see seating furniture in such condition. You should make it a shop! And marketplace fully functional with seating inside quick service restaurant and coffee place. Or just replace furniture cushions at least! *no disney magic. Not a single person was cheerful there or extra attentive to kids. Kids keeping your overpriced Disney going! Keep kids happy!!!! High five, Mickey waiting on you, may force be with you, SAY SOMETHING TO CHILDREN. None. Zero. Clearly cast members are not too happy there. We had great cast encounters in Wilderness, animal kingdom lodge and of course GF is the most small kid friendly(surprisingly). In beachclub one cast member named Olga from “coffee shop” showed humility and understanding towards ppl on scooters, she walked to each to refill their cups with coffee and made another person feel understood after lady got coffee but realized had no money to pay. She was kind and friendly. The end of friendly cast members. Probably lobby to blame? Too crowded and suffocating. * THE UGLY: On December 17 due to lack of food choices in Marketplace my husband went to pool restaurant Hurricane Hannas no the name to get us food. I asked for some salad with grilled chicken. When he brought food to our room lights were dimmed kids were sleeping so I didn’t see right away but I tasted it alright. The cucumbers were rotten slimy. Like no joke haha never thought it would happen to me in Disney. But it did. Rotten slimy nasty spoiled stuff. My husband said let go but because i was constantly hungry or because usually my 5yo eats my cucumbers I couldn’t let go. I took a salad and went to place. Listen it gets ugly. I’m coming to counter with full “i want to speak to manager look” asking who is in charge. Lil girl looks at me and tells her partner(he was training her) that i need a kitchen manager. He turns to me laughing says i’m a manager, woman behind him not in cast member uniform, black big lady with long braids laughing together with a lil girl. She did not turn, keeping her back to me. I told a boy that i have spoiled salad with rotten cucumbers in it. His reaction was “oh oh okay.” He turns to black lady and tells her what I said. So she obviously was in charge, okay. She says “ i heard what she said” to him and then to me “ so what you want, want another salad or you money back”. No I’m sorry oh wow never happened before so embarrassing. But what ya want. I would tell her what i want if I wouldn’t be grown woman and mother of two children. Such a trashy attitude wow. Again maybe because we from Fl, maybe because we stayed so many times in Gf now, maybe I’m too dramatic I don’t know but no one ever asked me in Disney “what you want”. She did open salad to check and did say “yes yes i see”. So just FYI watch that place and food they serve. * smoking. Smoking spot located right next to walkway to boardwalk (as you coming from doors it’s on buffet side). I disliked that stretch of walk very much, ppl constantly smoking there, with fumes following you as you walk. Very cheap. Move that smoking spot more in, so kids don’t breathe that nasty stuff. THE END. It’s a long review, sorry. But i read multiple reviews upon booking and know that for some ppl like me details are important. If you payed more than 350-370 for room it’s not worth it. Go to sister resort Yacht club!! It’s themed beautifully, smells nice inside like sea! Quick service has seating inside too. We encountered many friendly captains there, too cool. We have Club level room booked for Yacht club in summer if we won’t find good deal for GF. i know same pool same Hurricane Hannas, but my husband loooooved location. So we will try that. I wonder if it’s under same management? I hope not because i want extra lotions in my room! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Disappointed with the refurbishment!

This is my third stay in the Beach Club Resort. We opted for here again as the Yacht Club Resort has got extremely expensive. The lobby and facilities are fantastic as is the location. We were however disappointed with our room. If it has been recently refurbished it could definitely do with another update. The furniture was very worn and scuffed. There is now very little character in the room. It could be anywhere. My main issue though was with the bed and the bed linen. Within a couple of days of sleeping on a very worn mattress that sank in the middle, I developed a very painful back. It got progressively worse in our nine day stay. The pillows were very soft and lumpy, and the sheets and thin blanket were poor quality. My back has still not recovered even though we have been back now 3 days. One of my best memories of staying in any Disney hotel is the quality of the mattress and bedding. We have always had an incredible nights sleep. Not this time. Compared to the amazing refurbishment done on the Yacht Club this is poor. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
