I think the hotel is simply lovely. I researched many Disney hotels, because we wanted to stay on property, and this appealed to me the most, regardless of the price category. It has a theming that has some connection to the country you are in (US South), it is spread out nicely, so that it is never crowded. There is a boat to Disney Springs and back and the ride is charming. We regretted we could not spend more time on the premises. The room was maybe not spectacular, but it was large and had everything we needed. I would not hesitate to book again. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Great Family Vacation

Feb 27th, 2020

This trip was arranged from Canada. The hotel was absolutely beautiful. Our rooms were decorated in Princess Tiana. The room was very clean, the beds comfortable and amenities superb. We were so happy to get back at night to our ‘home’. The pools were very clean and welcoming. The bus picked us up a few feet away from our rooms to take us to the various Disney Theme Parks. Nice moderate resort and convenient too

Feb 25th, 2020

Our family of four stayed for 7 nights in February 2020 in a Royal Suite in building 95. We checked in around 9pm and the process took about 20-30 minutes. Ahead of our stay we used the unofficial portorleans.org website to learn a lot about the resort and current events which was helpful. When we heard these rooms were next for refurbishment we expected them to be in very rough shape however you had to look carefully if you wanted to find the wear and tear. The rooms are not huge but was enough for our family to be comfortable with some extra storage space in the bathroom area. Only three dresser drawers but enough space to fit most items in. We brought a short extension cord with USB outlets as we expected there not to be many electrical outlets and we were right. The theming is great if you have little ones or a princess in the group and you want that 'Disney' feel. We thought they would be more into the fireworks lights on the headboards but after a few times the novelty wore off. The room was carpeted and not changed to hard flooring like many have been after refurbishments but that might change as the Royal rooms are scheduled for renos in March 2020 as most of the regular rooms have already been completed. Our room had two large windows which was nice when you wanted some natural light. We had groceries delivered by Garden Grocers which were waiting for us at bell services upon check in. The mini fridge is your typical motel sized unit but again was enough for milk, fruit, snacks, drinks etc. We were in room 9521 as recommended on the Touring Plans site and found it to be very convenient, close to the main building and bus stop (2 min walk), on the main floor to avoid elevators and it was very quiet with almost no noise from above or outside. One of the smaller pools is located right beside the building and was never busy. We chose to try the Old Man Island pool on our off day and found it perfect for us. The water was not too cold and they had a Disney cast member playing games and doing activities with the kids all afternoon which was great. We only ate at the food court once and it was average mall food court food although their ordering line system could use some simplification. We took the boat to Disney Springs one evening which was an enjoyable 20 minute ride but expect a wait upon return at the end of the night as many people were headed back. They also play movies outside each night but we never had the chance to enjoy one. We had great luck with the bus service to the parks never waiting more than 5-10 minutes for a bus in the mornings. Even coming back to the resort had relatively short lines. We used the Magical express on arrival which was fun with the cartoons and trivia playing but took a Lyft back to the airport as the 4 hour lead time for international flights was too early for us after our flight got delayed the night before. All the staff we dealt with were very helpful and friendly. The general store on-site had a large selection of items including milk and some groceries and was open to 11pm. We even took the lightsaber we built at the parks there to be shipped home. The resort is very quiet and relaxed with lots of space. We did make a stop at the Polynesian for breakfast one day just to compare resorts and you can see the difference between a moderate and a deluxe. We enjoyed our stay and have no complaints but would probably try another resort next time just for variety. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Good location gorgeous grounds

Feb 24th, 2020

Let’s see we’re to start this isn’t the hotel I booked upon arriving to Disney art of animation Was I was told they overbooked and with no choice but to go back home to Boston I was sent here. Big different when you have a little boy and picky eaters if you have kids who are picky they are going to starve here cause it’s not a child friendly food resort nothing like all stars or pop or art of animation. I had a HANGRY child hole trip and being picky myself I wasn’t too pleased seeing I booked with the original resort knowing what food options they had . Next thing this is more geared towards a little girl then boys I had a 8 year old with me the room was all geared towards princesses he wasnt happy but I bet if he was a 8 year old girl he would’ve been super super impressed. Room was old and banged up I was surprised and omg outside ac units super super load all night no sleep here. Grounds were great happy upkeep so pretty with pools with slides yay was happy with how pretty it was boat service to Disney springs was cool I wouldn’t of taken the trip to there if it wasnt a boat ride so that was great. Didn’t find any cool cast members like at the value or AoA or pop that we’re willing to talk say hi and pay with kids . Actually no one here took time to even look up . I did venture to orleans side way more busy but way friendly cast members . The bus situation oh my HUGE RESORT before you jump on the lark bus find out what stop ur at coming back at midnight I didn’t know there was more then one drop off and it took me an hour to walk across hole grounds it was awful I mean that was my bad but I mean at the bus stop it should say this stop is East or west or north or south . I wasn’t the only one though . I think maybe I would feel different writing this review if we had planed our Vacation to stay at this reason but after months of planing for AoA this was an upset . Also because of the issue my hole day was ruined never got to parks and by the time it was taken care of it was time for bed that really stunk . I would say I would go back not in Jan cause they said pools were heated but not enough that I got in . I would say if your adults going pick this hotel you will be happy . TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Would have been fantastic, but...

Feb 23rd, 2020

The Port Orleans Riverside Resort (POR) is a nice resort. The grounds are lovely. It's pictuesque, well cared for, staff are polite and the room we had (Preferred Location, rather than Royal) was nicely presented. However, a few niggles reduced my score from five to three: My husband is gluten intolerant and the self service restaurant policy was to a chef every time an allergy friendly meal was required. There was no gluten free menu, so too much of meal times were spent waiting in line to ask for a chef, then waiting for the chef, and then waiting for the food. This was a painfully slow process and he often skipped meals rather than having to go through the same routine. If we wanted to eat together we would have to wait with him, which was too much for my son. His experience at the Boatwright Restaurant, on the other hand, was faultless. However, this was evident in the price tag, or dining plan meal type - depending on whether you use the plan or not. My other issue was that whilst the rooms were serviced adequately, the area under the beds was not vacuumed. This wasn't a major issue for us, but was a little disappointing and can be an issue for asthmatics or those with dust allergies My last issue only arose during the last night - purely out of luck more than anything. Our room had an interconnecting door to the next room. Not a problem, we thought, as we just planned on keeping it closed. However, a new adult-only family checked-in on our last night and they stayed up chatting until 1am. Yes, just chatted in their own, minding their own business - except I could hear every word as if they were in the same room. Our headboard was against the joining wall. Not only did I not get to sleep, but I realised that the previous family must have heard everything we did and said too. They had younger children, so I hope we didn't keep them awake.
