Delectable cuisine, beautiful setting and plenty of amenities
A stay here is pricey, plus there's a $125 nightly resort fee on top of the room rate
Reopened in 2019 after an extensive renovation following damages from Hurricane Maria in 2017, this elegant Ritz-Carlton property sits on an eco-friendly reserve on Puerto Rico's northern shore and features amenities galore. The resort offers access to a mile of sandy shoreline and numerous nature trails. While adults are teeing off on the two impressive 18-hole golf courses or indulging in a spa treatment amid the leafy canopy, kids can get acquainted with fellow resortgoers while participating in supervised Ambassadors of the Environment activities. Meanwhile, each of the resort's opulent guest rooms and suites boasts a balcony, a deep soaking tub and an outdoor shower. Many accommodation options even include private plunge pools. And the buck doesn't stop there. The waterfront COA restaurant offers locally inspired cuisine, including various dishes made in a custom wood-burning oven. Or, visitors can savor grilled meats and seafood at Encanto Beach Club Bar and Grill or fresh sushi, ceviche and tapas at Positivo Sand Bar. Overall, past guests praised the resort's cuisine and accommodations, although several warned that everything, from the dishes to the spa treatments to the room rates, is expensive. However, the property's daily resort fee covers perks like in-room Wi-Fi access, snorkeling gear and bikes.

Critic Reviews

Dorado Beach is a truly remarkable piece of paradise, with a primordial beauty to the landscape, despite the fact that the resort's just 35 minutes from San Juan. The 1,400 acres of grounds include impressive nature trails, and all the rooms, including the restaurants, are close to the fabulous 3-mile coastline.

Condé Nast Traveler

The linear palms and manicured golf greens signal that the enclave of Dorado is different from others on the island. And indeed, it is: This is a luxury gated community where crypto-millionaires spend their downtime. The Ritz-Carlton Reserve here feels removed, yet the property is actually more plugged-in than it appears. Wood-planked walkways, a lily pond, and curated greenery welcome guests upon arrival, while ocean views and a stunning two-mile stretch of sand immediately instill a sense of tranquility.

For the ultimate in luxury, spend your holidays at Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. This sprawling property was originally a plantation and it has been recreated keeping in mind the legacy of its original developer, Laurance S. Rockefeller. The property is remote, but once you arrive there is almost no reason to leave. The rooms are stunning, the beach is spacious, the pools are heavenly, the spa has locally inspired treatments and the five restaurants have superb and varied menus.
