Area in NOT good to stay in!

Sep 7th, 2020

I normally do not post reviews but I think from this experience it’s important I let others know. Especially with kids. We just completed our stay at this hotel. We were here with a group of 30 people for a soccer tournament. The first night seemed ok. But after that things became more noticeable with vagrants, what seemed like prosititues and drug deals going on and around the hotel. There is definitely a lack of security and staff to control it. Yesterday, the police arrested a man in front of our hotel room with needles, a knife and other things in his backpack. On our last night, there was a man lurking around our hotel room. One of the dads on our group approached him and he quickly walked away to meet a woman and go immediately down the stairwell. There was also another man across the hall with him and quickly left as well. After that we made sure all the kids were in a room and were not allowed to roam the hotel. I think for the area there needs to be more hotel security to not allow suspicious people in and keep guests safe. Many in our party wanted to leave after that experience. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Not the best experience

Sep 4th, 2020

I was in a part of 5 people who stayed here recently and the experience was less than stellar. The Starbucks barista was an overly chatty gent who was quick to let me know he has 5 jobs at the hotel. He prepared a breakfast item for me. After watching him handle money and then my food, without washing his hands I the midst of Covid, I chunked my breakfast sandwich and canceled my hot drink order. The area of town where it’s located was also it the best. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Convenient location and good for family

Aug 23rd, 2020

Good location close to major attractions in the downtown such as Temple Square, State Capitol, Creek Center, etc. We stayed in a suite with separate sleeping and sitting area which was good for the family. Only thing is that the computer is pretty old when I tried to print something. Note that the restaurants in the hotel are all closed, not even take-out. Only thing open is the Starbucks in the lobby. Overall we had a good stay of 2 separate nights. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Disgusting Hotel. Stay Away.

Aug 15th, 2020

On July 24th, after a long drive up from Moab, Utah, my family pulled into the parking garage of the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Salt Lake City Downtown.  There was a man loitering in the garage standing with two women. Another man walked up to them and was either buying drugs from the first guy or the services of one of the women. I didn't stop to ask.  My family entered the hotel, went up to our room on the 8th floor - it was a corner suite, and immediately the smell of cigarette smoke welcomed our noses. We had been on the road for two weeks, and had stayed in several different hotels in our travels. Marriotts, Hyatts, and Independent places. All of them were clean and devoid of drug dealers in their parking garages. Also, none of the other hotels reeked of cigarettes. There was no evidence of the Hilton "Clean Stay" protocols being followed. In this time of COVID, our family has been hyper-vigilant about cleaning hotels before we settle in. My wife showed me the Clorox wipes she was using to wipe down the surfaces of our room and they were coming up brown. Disgusting. She then showed me the sheets on the bed were torn and had holes in them. She then showed me the bathroom floor had hair on it.  At that point I decided to ask for another room. I messaged the hotel on the Hilton app. No one answered. I messaged two more times, and feeling the unhappiness of my spouse I decided to just book a room at the Hyatt House we had stayed in at the beginning of our trip a few blocks away.   When we were leaving the hotel we saw one lone employee at the desk with a line of people waiting for service. The guy in the parking garage was still out there doing whatever it is he was doing.  I told my wife I was had Diamond status at Hilton, they would give me a refund or I would take my business elsewhere. I contacted Hilton about my horrifying experience and the hotel won't do a refund. The room itself was also very dated and the window to the outside was filthy. I have stayed at every Hilton Brand from coast to coast, in the US and Canada. If this is the thanks I get for my loyalty then I guess it's time to change brands. Hyatt, do you do status matches? Your Hyatt House Salt Lake City/Downtown was wonderful! TRIPADVISOR.COM USER

Should be cleaner

I personally don’t care if people enforce face masks. I’d actually rather not wear one. But I do care if there is an open bloody roll of toilet paper in my bathroom. These rolls usually have paper on them. This was the extra roll by the sink. There was also hair in the sink. And my kids socks were black from the carpet. We stayed on the 10th of August before our flight home. Pool was also closed. But you could play on the games in the lobby. Forget this face mask charade and keep things fresh. TRIPADVISOR.COM USER
